[2024] WVU Announces Transfer Additions

Recommended Posts

Morgantown - West Virginia University coach smackemz has announced the players who have opted to transfer in for the 2025 season.  The transfer portal is a new regulation set forth by the simcfb which allows players the opportunity to transfer to another institution and play immediately.   When asked about the additions smackemz commented on the haul, "We had a really good team set up for next season, but these transfers help us in areas where we lost long time starters."  The Mountaineers are welcoming 5 additions to the roster.

Matt Taylor (Sr) Offensive Tackle - A overall (Texas Tech)

Taylor was one of the nation's most highly coveted transfers and will immediately step in and protect the blindside for quarterback Dzanan Reid.  Rated as one of the top 10 transfers - Taylor is one of the best pass blocking tackles in the nation.  West Virginia has spent a lot of recruiting capital on the offensive line, but projected starter Oscar Ray is a redshirt freshman who has not seen any game action.  Taylor will not only provide value being one of the best tackles in the nation - it will give Ray a mentor to learn from and prepare to start during his Sophomore campaign.

John Heller (Sr) Outside Linebacker - B+ overall (Kansas)

Heller, another highly sought after transfer, comes from BigXII rival Kansas and is known for his elite run stopping ability.  Heller has proven to be more than adequate in the pass game however; which fits what WVU likes to do with their Left Outside Linebacking position.  Traditionally the Mountaineers like their LOLB to focus less on pass rushing and more on stopping the run and not being a liability in coverage - this plays well into their preferred base and Nickel formations and allows Mike Johnson to focus on rushing the passer.

Amir Little (Sr) Wide Receiver/Running Back - B+ overall (Charlotte)

Amir Little, a surprising under the radar transfer prospect, brings the ability to play both the wide receiver and running back position.  Little brings a little bit of what Chad Dolis had brought to the Mountaineers in prior seasons - a general level of flexibility that allows for the player to line up at different areas of the field.  Similar to their offensive line situation, the Mountaineers have loaded up on blue chip wide receiver prospects, but generally they are raw and need time before they can be fully relied on to carry an offense.  Look for Little to help bridge the gap between the Chad Dolis/Kevin Purcell era and the Geordi LaForge/Matthew Bundick/Graham Schow era.

Chris Jones Sr Wide Receiver - B overall (Clemson)

Chris Jones, the speedster from Clemson, comes to West Virginia where he will also help to bridge the gap between receiving eras.  He brings above average speed and should provide Reid with another reliable short term target.

Alfredo Goeddel Sr Wide Receiver - B overall (LSU)

Similar to Jones - Goeddel will come in and provide necessary depth for the Mountaineers at the receiver position.
