2024 | SimCBB Season Announcement

Hi everyone,

 

With the post-season now starting for CFB, I wanted to let everyone know about our basketball sims: SimCBB and SimNBA. Both basketball sims emulate the college basketball and NBA respective league each with their own post-season, recruiting, and varying gameplay experience.

We typically run these sims during the football off-season to give the community something to engage in while we make changes and preparations for the next football season.

 

For the upcoming 2024 basketball season, I wanted to highlight some of the changes we've made for this offseason:

• One-on-One matchups
  • Each time a player has possession of the basketball in the engine, they are paired with another player. In previous seasons, we would run shot calculations against the defending team's adjusted defense. Moving forward, the possessing player will have their shots calculated against the defending player's defensive attributes. Defense now matters in basketball, and it will make this season all the more exciting.
• Injuries and Fouling Out
  • Who you put on the court now matters because players can either foul out or get injured. With the introduction of the Discipline and Injury Rating attributes, players can exit the game early due to either poor performance or an injury occurring. For this season, the rate of injury is expected to be very low.
• Final Possessions
  • During the final possessions of the game, if the team is down by a certain number of points, they will automatically attempt to catch up as soon as possible to either make the win or make it to a tie. No longer will teams be attempting for 2 points when they are down by 3 with one possession remaining.
• Dynamic Play by Plays
  • Just like the football engine, play by plays are now generated more dynamically with new flavor texts. This should make games more exciting to watch in the heat of the moment!
• Home Court Advantage
  • The size of your court now makes a dynamic impact on how tough your home environment is for opposing teams. Whether you're playing at Allen Fieldhouse in Kansas, the Dean Smith Center at UNC, or Hinkie Fieldhouse at Butler, each team has their own unique home court advantage that will make road games either a tough environment, or a breeze. 

 

Why join the basketball sims?

We want to keep the community engaged and excited while we work on changes in the football sim. Basketball, while being a different sport entirely, is a great way to stay engaged and allow players to build out an entirely different dynasty.

Our basketball sim in particular is designed to emulate the NCAA college basketball season, with over 360+ teams in the league. It is arguably a lot easier to build up a basketball program in SimCBB than it is in SimCFB. The players you recruit this season will have an immediate impact on the court next season, just like in the real-life sport.

At the moment, there are over 300+ teams available. If you want to take on the reigns of a blue blood like Michigan State, you can do that. If you want to build up a mid-major into a Cinderella like Oakland or Saint Peter's, you can do that too.

The post-season for the basketball sims are also a blast to participate in whether your team is participating in March Madness, the NIT, or the CBI. We also run our own March Madness bracket challenge too so that you can guess how you think the post-season will go down.

 

For SimNBA, there are three teams fully available for ownership. Our league hosts an 82-game regular season with a post-season format that is exactly the same as the NBA Finals.
