[2024] SimNFL Starting QB Tier List (As of TNF of Week 7)

Someone in chat asked for a tier list for SimNFL starting QBs, so I decided to try my hand at one. I based my tiers off of three pieces of criteria:

Stats - How well a QB has played compared to the other starting QBs (AS OF TNF WEEK 7)

Relative to OVR - An eye test of how well those stats were when taking OVR into context

Name - How cool, unique, or funny their names sounded to me at 3am on a Saturday night

So without further ado, here is the tier list, so you don't have to scroll through every QB's profile, but I would appreciate it if you read the rest of the article because this took me like 6 hours to write.

Arizona Cardinals - Patrick Johnson

134/277 (48.38%) for 1047 yds, 0 TD, 10 INT, 15 SCK

0 carries for 0 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

We begin this list real strong with the hands-down worst-performing QB in SimNFL right at the moment. And as an 80 OVR?! The only one worthy of a Johnson also manages to have one of the most boring names in the sim.

Atlanta Falcons - Chris Frazier

165/235 (50.77%) for 1674 yds, 7 TD, 13 INT, 21 SCK

We continue with our trend of terrible QBs. Frazier has been pretty bad for the Falcons this year. He is a 65 OVR, though, and I think his stats are perfectly adequate of someone of that level. Also, he does at least have a "Z" in his name. Plus his name is almost a famous American sitcom.

Baltimore Ravens - David Chop

158/226 (69.91%) for 1695 yds, 9 TD, 13 INT, 13 SCK

21 carries for 184 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Much better statswise, especially that 8.76 rushing average, but still a pretty bad TD to INT ratio. Saying that, David Chop is a 82 OVR and I would expect him to play much better than this. Chop is a great name, however. It's too bad he's not on the Braves/Seminoles/Chiefs for some spicy controversy.

Buffalo Bills - Yusei Asencio

130/230 (56.52%) for 1428 yds, 4 TD, 5 INT, 19 SCK

24 carries for 73 yds, 1 TD, 0 FUM

These are some bad stats, but at least he's even on total TDs to INTs. Given that he is a 66 OVR, I think he can get a bit of a pass. It's about how you might expect him to play. That name, though? It's so unique.

Carolina Panthers - Dekoda Link

 

215/376 (57.18%) for 3192 yds, 18 TD, 11 INT, 30 SCK

Carolina should be estatic with how Link has been playing. He leads the league in passing yards, but his INTs and sacks (2nd most in the league) keep him from getting top marks for his stats. Considering he is a 70 OVR? Outplaying from that perspective. His name is awesome, too. Helps that my first cat's name was Link.

Chicago Bears - Gerald Lewis

134/207 (64.73%) for 1845 yds, 11 TD, 4 INT, 13 SCK

77 carries for 330 yds, 1 TD, 1 FUM

These are top tier stats, Lewis is careful with the ball, and even has 330 rush yards (4.29 average!) as a pocket QB. As a 78 OVR, I think he's maybe a bit above average from what I might expect. That name, though. Man, so boring.

Cincinnati Bengals - Jeremiah West

 

160/225 (71.11%) for 2251 yds, 20 TD, 9 INT, 18 SCK

West might be one of the biggest surprises of the season. He's got one of the best completion percentages in the country, a ton of yards, and a great TD to INT ratio. And all of that as a 76 OVR? Very, very impressive. his name, however? Just average.

Cleveland Browns - James Rivera

121/192 (63.02%) for 1489 yds, 9 TD, 7 INT, 12 SCK

15 carries for 44 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Rivera's stats is the posterchild of average. I can't even think of anything to really say about it. I have all of these QB's stats listed in an Excel spreadsheet with conditioal formatting to easily compare players and all of Rivera's stats are this yellow color. Not orange, not red, not green. Yellow. I would expect a 75 OVR QB to be better than this, to be honest. Doesn't help that we just saw West right above this. And his name? Kinda average, too.

Dallas Cowboys - Jessie Noel

202/275 (73.45%) for 2298 yds, 24 TD, 8 INT, 17 SCK

7 carries for 73 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Noel is one of the best QBs in the country right now. he's not always the flashiest guy out there, but he has the best completion percentage in the country plus a 3:1 TD to INT ratio to boot. 10.43 rush average is also the 2nd highest on this list (yes, small sample size). He is an 84 OVR, however. You would expect this kind of performance. As for his name? Kinda cool, yet also boring at the same time?

Denver Broncos - Peter London

 

135/190 (71.05%) for 1828 yds, 20 TD, 10 INT, 16 SCK

13 carries for 67 yds, 2 TD, 0 FUM

Peter London is en route to another great season this year. His passing totals aren't spectacular, but they are definitely above average. Like Noel, he does well at taking care of the ball, but does have double digit INTs already this year. Two rushing TDs helps, though. Not the best considering he's an 83 OVR, but still great. His name is top tier because it's funny having someone who is one of the best in AMERICAN football while sharing a name with a major city of a former ENEMY country (London, Ontario in Canada). Our first S-tier.

Detroit Lions - Randall Hansen

176/306 (57.52%) for 1959 yds, 11 TD, 10 INT, 10 SCK

Not gonna lie, Hansen is pretty forgettable as well. Everythign is so shockingly average here, too. But at least, I think his stats are a bit better than James Rivera's. Considering he is a 70 OVR? That's a bit better. I like the name Randall because it's kind of funny. Maybe he will open a steakhouse one day.

Green Bay Packers - Joseph Garibay

142/225 (63.11%) for 1511 yds, 9 TD, 9 INT, 8 SCK

I'm not quite sure what to make of Garibay. His stats are boring. At least he has one of the lowest sacks in the league? An 80 OVR with this low of everything feels wrong, however. I also don't know what a Garibay is, but I dig it.

Houston Texans - Hiram Maronde

106/240 (44.17%) for 758 yds, 2 TD, 9 INT, 22 SCK

108 carries for 420 yds, 2 TD, 0 FUM

Oh boy. Those passing stats... are something. He would have joined Patrick Johnson with a 0 on stats, but his 420 rush yards and 2 rushing TDs saved him. I would cut him some slack here as he is only a 62 OVR, but man. It's not great... even though he's a scrambler. Name? Top tier. It's such a great name - super easy to scream when he does something cool. And he absolutely will with his 90 speed.

Indianapolis Colts - Gary Freitag

117/202 (57.92%) for 1381 yds, 5 TD, 7 INT, 12 SCK

96 carries for 384 yds, 4 TD, 2 FUM

Freitag is not a great passer, but he honestly is passable (heh) as one if he can keep up his rushing output. 4 rushing TDs is one of the best in the country as a QB, but he needs to stop fumbling the ball. He's a 76 OVR, but I think his stats are not good enough for that OVR. His name reminds me of one my favorite Chopped judges, Amanda Freitag.

Jacksonville Jaguars - Matt Howard

143/263 (54.37%) for 1640 yds, 10 TD, 5 INT, 16 SCK

For someone who talks as big of a game as Matt Howard does, his stats don't REALLY back it up. But that's a bit of an exceptionally unbalanced comparison. Look, his stats are fine. If he can get his completion percentage up, he would be great. I'm most impressed by his lack of INTs, in this INT-happy league. He's also a 63 OVR, which makes this even better. I like what I'm seeing. But I have to deduct a lot of points for having a name as boring as Patrick Johnson.

Kansas City Chiefs - Theo Scribner

119/259 (45.56%) for 1554 yds, 14 TD, 9 INT, 28 SCK

1 carries for 2 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

These are some not great stats. On one hand, he's got 14 passing TDs. On the other, he's got one of the worst completiong percentages in the league and one of the highest sacks, too. Saying that, he IS a 58 OVR - one of the lowest of any starting QB. Honestly? I think he is vastly out-performing that OVR. He also has an S-tier name. I'm biased on that first name, though.

Las Vegas Raiders - James Hixon

173/266 (65.04%) for 2432 yds, 19 TD, 3 INT, 18 SCK

James Hixon is having a fantastic season. Jieret continues to do wonders with what he has. In another life, Hixon is an expert spy because his codes would never be intercepted. Considering he is a 75 OVR? Compare that with someone like Frietag just above... I'd otherwise say he has an average name, but the fact that there is an "X" in it bumps it a point.

Los Angeles Chargers - Miguel Aguilera

132/200 (66.00%) for 1441 yds, 8 TD, 5 INT, 3 SCK

97 carries for 459 yds, 6 TD, 1 FUM

A mediocre passing performance from Aguilera is boosted by a fantastic rushing performance. When he throws the ball, theres not too much to write home about, but Aguilera is a very careful player. He doesn't try to air it out too long and tries to take care of the ball as evidenced by his only throwing 5 INTs. His 3 sacks are the 2nd lowest in the league. Where he really shines is his league-leading (among QBs) 6 rushing TDs. Pretty unique name, too.

Los Angeles Rams - Philip Avila

168/245 (68.57%) for 2856 yds, 35 TD, 11 INT, 11 SCK

2 carries for 4 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Avila is a boss. Despite declining in OVR, he still manages to put out league-leading stats. What else can you say about him that hasn't been said before? Fun fact, he's so good at building up a lead that he sits most games and his back up Bruder comes in to play. Bruder has 990 passing yards at the time of writing. And the dude is a freaking 74 OVR. Like, what?! I don't know what about his name is so above average to me. I think it's because when I think the Chargers, I think of Avila. What a legend. Our second S-tier on the list - and the highest one, at that.

Miami Dolphins - Dean Hammonds

135/190 (71.05%) for 1828 yds, 20 TD, 10 INT, 24 SCK

13 carries for 67 yds, 2 TD, 0 FUM

Hammonds throws the ball A LOT. He also completes his pass A LOT. But somehow this does not translate into a lot of touchdowns. He's got one of the best completion percentages in the country and has only thrown 5 INTs. I'm confused. He's also an 82 OVR, yet only 9 TDs? Feels low compared to the rest of the guys at this level. He also has a perfectly average name. It's safe enough to take home to your parents.

Minnesota Vikings - Christian Sinnock

139/304 (45.72%) for 1390 yds, 7 TD, 14 INT, 21 SCK

1 carry for 2 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Like Hammonds above, Sinnock throws the ball A LOT. Unlike Hammonds above, Sinnock does NOT complete his pass a lot. 45.72%? That's putrid. This is easily the worst performance from a 75 OVR guy. His name, however, always makes me think of Chinook Salmon. While not native to the Great Lakes, they were first introduced to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron in 1967 by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources in order to fight the alewife, an invasive species from the Atlantic Ocean. This was a great success, and now they are found in all of the Great Lakes. Sport fishermen love to catch Chinook Salmon because of how aggresively they fight tooth and nail when hooked. Sinnock, unfortunately, does not fight at all.

New England Patriots - Rashaan Lyons

175/364 (48.08%) for 2249 yds, 11 TD, 16 INT, 29 SCK

Wow, back-to-back QBs with completion percentages in the 40s. At least he has a pretty high number of passing yards and double digit TDs? But the dude is 66 OVR, so let's cut him a little slack. I think he's doing about as well as you might expect him to do. His name is great, though. I just really like the combo. It flows off the tongue.

New Orleans Saints - Ben Rivera

145/299 (48.49%) for 2035 yds, 11 TD, 14 INT, 24 SCK

1 carry for 11 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Wow, back-to-back-to-back QBs with completion percentages in the 40s. His stats aren't quite as high Lyons's, but they're also way higher than Sinnock's. CLoser to Lyons than Sinnock. He also has the highest rush yards per attempt in the country among QBs (about as small of a sample size as possible). But, he's a 58 OVR. That is quite impressive. We had another QB with the last name Rivera (are these guys related?), so you might expect a low score here, but I think he gets a high score because it almost "Riviera" which is French, and I think New Orleans is part of France.

New York Giants - Lamar Johnson

123/215 (57.21%) for 1116 yds, 11 TD, 15 INT, 13 SCK

56 carries for 283 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Those are some horrible passing stats. 15 INTs is tied for the 2nd most in the league. He does have a great rushing average at 5.05 yds per attempt, but nothing to show for it as he has 0 TDs. I can't really justify his stats either as he is a 77 OVR. Downright disrespectful. And he's got a boring-as-hell name.

New York Jets - Myron Everett

107/200 (53.50%) for 852 yds, 5 TD, 6 INT, 13 SCK

62 carries for 120 yds, 1 TD, 0 FUM

No tier list of all SimNFL starting QBs is complete without Myron Everett of the Jets  because he is a SimNFL starting QB. Very below average passing stats here. Might as well call them assing stats at this point. At least he has 1 rushing TD and only has tossed 6 INTs? But, man. 70 OVR with stats as bad as this feels not great. I also think his name is just average.

Philadelphia Eagles - Aaron Pool

136/229 (59.39%) for 1991 yds, 16 TD, 9 INT, 2 SCK

98 carries for 417 yds, 6 TD, 2 FUM

For a scrambler, Pool really can throw. Also he is one of two QBs with 6 rushing TDs, but also 2 fumbles. I think wh at really keeps Pool from being top tier in stats is a high TD to INT ratio and those two fumbles. But he's also only a 73 OVR. Incredibly impressive for that OVR, I think. Old man can run and avoid sacks. He also has one of the best names in the country. Pool party? That's just so much fun.

Pittsburgh Steelers - Robert Morris

121/205 (59.02%) for 1449 yds, 8 TD, 6 INT, 13 SCK

86 carries for 496 yds, 6 TD, 2 FUM

Another great scrambler here. Robert Morris has proven to everyone that he is a run-first QB with his absolutely yellow-colored passing stats (this isn't racist - it's about the Excel spreadsheet, remember?). He leads all QBs with 496 rushing yards, and 6 rushing TDs, though. He just needs to take care of the ball a bit more. He's a 77 OVR, and I would expect 77 OVRs to be a bit less average (overall) than this, though. Cap that with a boring name? I'm giving a point because he shares a name with a university, but that's the only thing remarkable here.

San Francisco 49ers - Andrew Solano

Seattle Seahawks - Kemoko Allard

118/216 (54.63%) for 1218 yds, 6 TD, 9 INT, 13 SCK

Kemoko Allard has been having a very meh season so far. His passing stats are below average, but he has above average rushing stats. He's shaping up to be a pretty good prospect, but is still pretty raw. His name, however, keeps him in the upper tiers.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Gregory Taphorn

149/259 (57.53%) for 1672 yds, 6 TD, 12 INT, 23 SCK

76 carries for 387 yds, 2 TD, 3 FUM

Taphorn is just a worse-performing, especially for his OVR, Kemoko Allard. He's turnover heavy (9 INT, 3 FUM!) and gets sacked a lot, too. I do think he has a decent name, though.

Tennessee Titans - Wayne Reimer

97/156 (62.18%) for 1070 yds, 6 TD, 3 INT, 14 SCK

22 carries for 119 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

Wayne Reimer is not called on to pass very much. In fact, among starting QBs, he has attempted the fewest number of passes. He is pretty efficient, though. Only 6 TD and 3 INT. It's not a great ratio, but at least he has thornw the fest INTs among his kind. He does also have some whees, too. One of the highest rush averages at 5.41 yards per carry. Couple that with a kind of normal name?

Washington Commanders - Jerome Morrison

184/265 (69.43%) for 3159 yds, 28 TD, 7 INT, 33 SCK

16 carries for 46 yds, 0 TD, 0 FUM

It's no surprise that a Commanders QB is doing really well. Morrison leads the league in passing yards, has a top tier completion percentage, and is 2nd in passing TDs. Unfortunately, he is dead last in sacks with 33. And it's not even close. I have to take away a point because of that. Those sacks are such momentum shifters. But, he's somehow only a 72 OVR. Incredible. That name? Not incredible at all.

Yeah, he's clearly a great player, but the output hasn't matched up. Plus that name is so average!

I want to say in Morrisons defense that the stats include preseason… aka the game our starting tackle got hurt and we put in a non-OL there who gave up 9 sacks in the second half alone
