In front of a raucous crowd of 49,569, the Utah Utes emerged victorious 35-9 against Iowa State Saturday night. Quarterback Alcides Holden led the way with 4 rushing touchdowns as the the Utes, newcomers to the conference, picked up their first Big 12 win at the second time of asking. Running back Troy Young had 16 carries for 170 yards and a touchdown to lead all rushers, and receiver Arquimedes Antetokounmpo had 2 catches for 47 yards to lead all receivers in an emotional victory.

"Man just glad to grab the win," said Holden, who had 47 yards passing and 129 yards rushing to go with his 4 scores. "It's been a tough start to the season, but getting this win in this fashion, its something to be proud of the progress we've made in the 3 years I've been here."

Iowa State was led by running back Avonte Ramirez who had 16 carries for 105 yards and 5 receptions for 25 yards, but the Cyclones were often frustrated by a stifling Utes defense. After giving up two long runs in the 1st quarter, the Iowa State offense nearly ground to a halt. Quarterback Quincy Bakhtiari finished the game 11 of 24 for 35 yards, and he looked to have no answers to FS JC Gentry (6 tackles, 2 TFLs) and the rest of the Ute defense.

The Utes are now 2-3 heading into a big showdown against TCU next Friday night in Rice-Eccles Stadium. Iowa State is now 2-4 and head into their bye week.
