[2024] SB+ Spring Rumblings - Break Out Players

Recommended Posts

We here at SB+ continue to expand our analytical player rankings and kept our ear to the ground at all the spring camps nationwide. With the Preseason about to start, here are the guys that we are projecting to have breakout seasons in 2024, having made some of the biggest jumps since last season.

OT Alex Elliott, SR, Arkansas State

Leaving 2023, Alex Elliott was just another offensive lineman. For the Red Wolves he played 753 snaps, allowed 2 sacks, and was a run of the mill, middle of the pack player that SB+ had ranked in the 4000s. Well whatever he did this offseason worked. Elliott is a monster now, having climbed up to an A overall his senior season to be one of the best tackles in the nation and in the top 400 ranked players nationally and a gain of 34+ SB+ Individual Points. A monumental jump for a guy that NFL scouts will be looking hard at to see if there's more potential there when his 6-2, 297 lbs frame hits the draft.

WR Tyler Prochnow, (SO), Baylor

Another dramatic rise for the former 5*. After an excellent redshirt freshman campaign catching 89 passes for 1185 yards and 13 touchdowns, Prochnow is now the guy for the Bears. Travis Knebel seems to have made an immediate connection with the speedy wide receiver, and Prochnow has delivered as well. His climb to the top has been staggering, gaining 25+ points on the individual SB+ Player Rating scale to go from the 2400s to the 320s. Still young, Prochnow looks to be potentially the top underclassman receiver in the nation. @Vivid has a gem here that will continue to develop.

RB James Livingston, SO, Virginia Tech

James "The General" Livingston had an electric true freshman season for the Hokies, spelling senior RB Rob Joseph to his own stat line of 156 carries, 631 yards, 5 TDs. Livingston showed he was a threat out of the backfield as well with 22 receptions for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns. Now heading into his Sophomore season, Livingston is the guy that is going to make this Hokies run game go. The former 5* from Washington DC is poised to have a breakout year, rising from the 4300s to a spot in the top 800 nationally, a gain of 23+ SB+ Individual Player Points.

CB Jerel Campos, JR, Arkansas

Can't let offense have all the fun. Another rising star is the junior Razorback, CB Jerel Campos. The 5-11, 193 lbs corner exceled as a sophomore with 36 tackles, 1 FF, 1 FR, 4 PDs, and 1 INT playing mostly as a nickel corner. Going into his junior year, Campos is going to split out to the boundary and with how he's hit the weight this spring, this guy is going to be a problem for passing attacks in the SEC. With a point gain of 22+, Campos rose from the 3000s to the 500s in his individual player rank.

DE Jarvis Mauro, JR, UCLA

Another name in the country that most should know by now is @Jmjacobs's feared pass rusher Jarvis Mauro. The defensive end was stunning as a true sophomore, with 26 tackles, 11 TFLs and 6.5 sacks to lead the Bruins defense in huge season for that team. Now Mauro returns to devastate offensive tackles once more. The 6-6. 243 lbs pass rusher rose 21+ points to go from the 800s to being a top 70 player nationally. Look for Mauro to solidify his spot as one of the best players in the country.

OT Jordan Marte, (SR), Bowling Green

Another lineman that has made the huge jump is Bowling Green's OT Jordan Marte. @PoopyRhinoPickle's behemoth tackle had 7 pancakes and 2 sacks allowed in over 900 snaps last season, and returns once again to block Travis Kingery's blindside. While he was already an excellent player, Marte's commitment has increased this past offseason to rocket him up from 21 points in the individual player index, going from the 70s to the low 90s in player score. SB+'s 81st overall player nationally, Marte is going to be one to watch for in some brilliant match ups as the season goes on.

OLB Laurent Scruggs, JR, SMU

@JW1952TX's linebacker is an absolute prodigy at the position. Laurent Scruggs, a true junior out of West Virginia, exploded on the scene with a 2023 campaign that had 88 tackles, 8 TFLs, 1 FF, 1 FR, and 2 INTs. Scruggs is Mr. Do-It-All for the Mustangs, and he does it all well. The scary thing is he's only gotten even better. Scruggs is now a top 400 player in the nation, and ranked as a top 15 outside linebacker nationally after gaining 20+ Individual Player Points heading into his 3rd season.

DT Santosh Vo, SO, Minnesota

Schad_Keonte_0624.jpg

Santosh Vo started as a true freshman for the Golden Gophers, and @Minnow's incredible defensive tackle looks to be the lynch pin of this defensive line again in 2024. A classic 3-tech DT, Vo had 33 tackles, 7 TFLs, 4.5 sacks, and 2 FF last season as one of the most dominant freshmen in the nation. The big fella even brought down an interception last season with his 6-2, 285 lbs frame. Frankly, we're so excited to see him try and do this again. Vo's season was truly explosive as he climbed from a player ranked in the 2400s all the way up to the top 500, a player point gain of 20+. While he's not eligible for the draft just yet, its no stretch that in a few years at this development path, Vo might be the top defensive tackle in the country.
