2024 | American Samoa Kingfishers Fold, Entire team to enter Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

After seasons of attempting to reach D-1 status and struggling with costs associated to travel and fundraising, American Samoa College has elected to fold its basketball program. The Kingfishers reached the D-2 Finals in the completely real SimCBB-D-2 league, after upsetting basketball juggernauts Blue Mountain State and Bishop Sycamore College on their way to a title run. Had it not been for rival Chaminade Silverswords who beat American Samoa in the championship, alumni of American Samoa college would have backed the athletics department with an application to participate in the 2024 SimCBB season.

The players remain frustrated with the news and remain cautiously hopeful on their futures. Starting Junior PG Carter Ohashi was the first player to enter the transfer portal from the Kingfishers roster. Ohashi was a legacy player in the program, with has father having previously attended the school during the 90s in a magnificent run for a D-2 National Championship. His younger brother, Chris, is projected to be a high-caliber recruit next season.

Following Ohashi's announcement, freshman SF Jason Bisson and Sophomore SG Theodore Middlebrooks both elected to enter immediately after. The rest of the team electing to transfer afterwards.

This is a huge blow for the program and for the hopes of other fellow pacific island universities -- Guam, and Chaminade -- on reaching the SimCBB league.

It has been reported that Guam and Chaminade are still applying for participation within the SimCBB but it remains up to the administration and the SimCBB community on whether either college should be unleashed upon the masses. The B1G has expressed interest in extending their conference footprint beyond the Western United States, but the Big West remains hopeful that adding a travel partner for Hawai'i would help with travel costs for its member schools.

I needed an excuse to create some test data for the transfer portal and decided to make some lore. RIP American Samoa College.

  • TuscanSota changed the title to [2024] American Samoa Kingfishers Fold, Entire team to enter Transfer Portal

Ever since they lost the lawsuit in using their original mascot to the Girl Scouts, the program was doomed.

RIP Samoa Samoas, everyone's childhood classic staple team
