[2024] Carolina Panthers press conference after Day 1 of the 2024 simNFL Draft

Recommended Posts

Charlotte, North Carolina --

Carolina moved around a lot, brought in some players, and moved some players. The Panthers moved up multiple times after moving #32 and #37 to the Chargers just three days prior to the draft in exchange for star WR Fernando Owens.

Then, the Panthers made the following selections and moves:

Round 1, Pick 3 - Ruben Shazier, Center, Alabama

Carolina's brass identified Shazier as the most talented player in the draft. The current plan is for him to start at guard during the 2024 season. "Ruben can come in and immediately block for [Joseph] Cale. We're hoping to really bolster our run game compared to last year and Ruben should be a huge part of that," said GM @Jambo.

Round 1, Pick 5 - Vince Gresham, Defensive End, Oregon State

The Panthers' secondary target was Gresham and they were more than happy to land him at 5. "I love building the trenches, and after trading for [Aaron] Stokes we're very happy to add Vince into the fold, along with the #5 pick from last year in Californiaeb [Suarez], and a Pro Bowler in [Steve] Kapfhammer," said @Jambo.

Round 1, Pick 24 - Kelvin Dupree, Runningback, Kentucky

TRADE:

Panthers give: CB Adrian Goerner, DT Marco Everett, 2025 5th, 2026 5th

Falcons give: #24, #85

The Panthers identified Dupree as a target early on. "We loved his shiftiness and his ceiling is through the roof," said head coach @Sarge. Dupree will rotate in behind recently-signed Joseph Cale in 2024.

Round 2, Pick 48 - Jose Jones, Wide Receiver, Wake Forest

TRADE:

Panthers give: #85 (from Bears via Falcons), #102

Ravens give: #48

Jones was another player the Panthers identified early as a primary target. "We loved his ability to get the ball and run with it, and his routes are as crisp I've seen from a player coming out of the draft," said @Sarge. Jones will compete with Jose Maldonado and last year's first rounder Marco Thompson to play WR3 in 2024.

Carolina still has pick #69 tomorrow, as well as a sixth and seventh round selection on Sunday.
