Offseason Notes and Stories

Lincoln, NE - With spring games around the corner, teams across the country are bringing in their early enrollees and beginning the process of setting depth charts and pecking orders for the fall. Below are a few assorted notes from the news since the SMU v Nebraska bowl game.

QB Room Goes Off-Campus

This is usually a time for strife and contention in the locker room as young players come in gunning for playing time and underperforming upperclassmen start seeing the writing on the wall as far as their likelihood of starting a game before the end of their final season.

But there's no drama in Lincoln between Guy and Poona. The Elite 11 freshman has come in eyes and ears open with no agenda and been a top tier team player during winter conditioning work. Not only that, but it appears that presumptive starting QB Poona Edwards has taken his NIL funds and purchased a rental property in Lincoln where the entire QB room can stay - "The Corn Palace" is a 5 bedroom Queen Anne loft originally owned by agricultural futures trader JB McClintock Sr.

Senior Logan Campanaro has joined the duo and told us "bro my uncle set up a sweet film room down in the basement it's dope as shit, bro." and frosh Steven White and Juan Arana were reported as seen around the local Mexican store on the corner.

So it sounds like the QB room at Nebraska has their own bungalow and they're spending winter conditioning 'studying film' as much as they're studying film.

Crootsmas

Coach Alexfall862 has been at the helm for 3 years and his recruiting coordinator Alexfall862 Jr tells us a new tradition has taken hold in the locker room "Crootsmas" which is a celebration/tradition on early signing day as a way to relieve the stress/uncertainty of seeing the finalization of who their teammates will be the following year.

Players leave cookies out in the locker room the night before signing, and if the players have been attentive and diligent in film review and haven't missed weightlifting sessions, then they'll have their new teammate's NLI under the team Bowflex the following morning and that player won't be an immediate threat to their playing time. The players also tie bells over the top of doorways to catch 'Slippery Jim' who is said to sneak in at night and leave fake NIL and transfer offers to players that haven't been good that year.

No word on if the players caught Slippery Jim this Crootsmas Eve.

Scheme and Tactics

We sat down with coach alexfall862 last week and talked about what went well and what went wrong this last season including a befuddling dud from the offense in the bowl game against SMU.

"Well, we were trying something and it didn't work, ok!" said coach "We wanted to see what it'd look like to move Richaun Alsadek to the outside and fling the ball around to him and Ro'Derrick - but I don't think we had the juice to move the ball around fast enough after just a week or two of reps."

"I like the pieces we have on defense, but losing Elijah Guireuirei (sic) is a real problem as far as having playmakers to create chaos next season. I'd also like to see the big guys take more steps in stopping the run, but we'll see how winter conditioning goes - Malcolm Lewis is sure looking stronger and more conditioned already."

We asked him if there was anything new the strength and conditioning team was trying this offseason and coach offered that the team was trending upward "and we're not going to do anything wild, but we were really worried about our senior's performance at the pro-day. Though we did have a nice spread. Maybe that was part of the issue. They had these little gnocchi's or something and then a killer cold cut charcuterie board."
