Welcome back to Huskies Insider, your #1 source of NIU Football news. In today’s edition we will discuss  Coach Ape’s National Coach of The Year Award and recap the Huskies brilliant Holiday Bowl Victory. We will have a recap of the Huskies full recruiting class in a different article.

NATIONAL COACH OF THE YEAR

It’s official, our beloved Coach Ape has been voted as the SimFBA National Coach of The Year. Followers of this program know the outstanding progress that Coach Ape has made in hist first season at the helm, but let’s review some

1. 10 Win Season

2. More than doubled previous program total of wins (9) in a single season

3. First Bowl Appearance and victory in program history

4. Won Bronze Stalk Trophy

5. Top 40 Recruiting Class (25 commitments: 3 ️, 17 ️, 5 ️)

6. Defeated both P5 opponents faced (Texas Tech and Pittsburgh)

overall we couldn’t be more proud of everything our Huskies were able to do this season on and off the field and we think that the future is bright for the program.

HOLIDAY BOWL CHAMPS

While we were hoping to see the Huskies in Detroit for the MAC Championship game we didn’t get that opportunity this year. However the Huskies got the opportunity to win a 10th game against Pittsburgh in San Diego in the Gorilla Glue Holiday Bowl, and boy we were not disappointed!!

The Huskies defense came to play, only allowing the Panthers 266 offensive yards. DT Kenny Burns went off with 8 tackles, 3TFLs, 2 Sacks and an INT, he definitely gets our Defensive Star ️ of the game award on this one.

On offense the Huskies dominated, putting up 459 yards and 41 points! We even got a backup QB sighting in presumptive favorite to be next years starter, Tsuyoshi Vasquez who went 5/7 for 57 yards in relief of Steven Diaz. Speaking of Diaz what a way to end a career as a Huskie, he wins our offensive star of the game award going 16/36 for 252 and 3 TD.

Final: 41-6 Huskies win!!!!
