Recruiting U series! The Defensive Ends

Recommended Posts

As we are nearing the end of the third sim recruiting cycle let's take a walk down memory lane and see which teams are leading at recruiting each position. This week we move to Defensive Ends

Methodology: So I have a "score" for every recruit in the sim thus far. It is basically my (educated) assumption of their starting overall + 2.5 years of progressions. So these player scores are my rough estimate for how good a player will be as a ~RS JR / Senior. Of course this is not precise, some will over-perform or under-progress but I think it's the best metric there is. In any case, for offensive line we are taking the top THREE recruits for each school at DE and simply adding them together and then ranking the schools. I PROMISE after the DL ones you'll stop reading as much about you know who

Without further Ado:

Honorable mentions:

Bowling Green - 138.96

2023 DE Ray Wise - Run Stopper 4*, C overall, A- potential - 48.08721 overall (20th best DE)

2021 DE Ty Ivie - Run Stopper 4*, C overall, B potential - 45.9167823272218 overall (47th best DE)

2022 DE Michael Findlay - Run Stopper 4*, C overall, C+ potential - 44.9582303283764 overall (94th best DE)

Minnesota - 139.52

2022 DE Miles Choudhry - Speed Rusher 5*, B overall, C potential - 53.3617708333333 overall (5th best DE)

2021 DE Erik Hernandez - Speed Rusher 4*, C overall, D+ potential - 44.0767817082299 overall (162th best DE)

2021 DE Rhett Pericak - Speed Rusher 3*, C overall, B potential - 42.0865210262939 overall (273th best DE)

UCLA - 139.59

2021 DE Jarvis Mauro - Speed Rusher 5*, B overall, B- potential - 54.2666666666667 overall (2th best DE)

2022 DE Louis Ebling - Speed Rusher 3*, C overall, C- potential - 42.843118804212 overall (231th best DE)

2023 DE John Staton - Balanced 3*, C overall, B potential - 42.48053 overall (249th best DE)

New Mexico - 140.13

2021 DE Kris Pouncey - Balanced 4*, C overall, A- potential - 47.209994855284 overall (25th best DE)

2022 DE Anthony Chang - Run Stopper 3*, C overall, A+ potential - 46.8526912949185 overall (31th best DE)

2022 DE Donald Parrish - Run Stopper 3*, C overall, A- potential - 46.0644942688965 overall (42th best DE)

Illinois - 140.3

2023 DE Allan LaCombe - Run Stopper 5*, B overall, C+ potential - 53.17453 overall (6th best DE)

2021 DE Luis Flaherty - Run Stopper 3*, C overall, A- potential - 43.9475358839309 overall (174th best DE)

2021 DE Dontez Lyles - Balanced 3*, C overall, B+ potential - 43.1790911985391 overall (221th best DE)

#5: North Carolina - 140.43

2022 DE Jack Wortham - Speed Rusher 4*, C overall, A- potential - 49.2828125000001 overall (17th best DE)

2022 DE Roberto Gonzalez - Speed Rusher 3*, C overall, A potential - 45.9968734510523 overall (44th best DE)

2023 DE Mahendra Nicolas - Run Stopper 4*, C overall, B potential - 45.14895 overall (76th best DE)

The last two cycles North Carolina has started loading up on good DEs. A necessity since they currently have 4 upperclassmen and last years 2 recruits. Jack and Roberto should get plenty of snaps next season and be full time starters the year after that.

#4: Penn State - 144.62

2021 DE Bobby Terrero - Run Stopper 4*, B overall, B+ potential - 51.4848958333334 overall (11th best DE)

2023 DE Mark Hogenson - Speed Rusher 4*, C overall, A potential - 46.81895 overall (32th best DE)

2023 DE Anthony Tidwell - Speed Rusher 3*, C overall, A+ potential - 46.32237 overall (36th best DE)

2021 DE Tom Coulombe - Speed Rusher 4*, C overall, C+ potential - 45.1072007007989 overall (88th best DE)

2022 DE George Roush - Balanced 4*, C overall, C+ potential - 44.8327656443615 overall (102th best DE)

In contrast, Penn State is loaded at DE with 6 underclassmen this year. Bobby and Tom are already DE 2/3 in the room. Every one of these 5 guys can contribute snaps, they have good spread, some high potential guys. All around a very good, deep position.

#3: Texas Tech - 145.28

2023 DE Andre Padilla - Run Stopper 5*, B overall, C potential - 53.06866 overall (8th best DE)

2022 DE Michael Post - Speed Rusher 4*, C overall, B+ potential - 46.5549775402726 overall (34th best DE)

2021 DE Demone McKinney - Balanced 4*, C overall, B- potential - 45.6585810629033 overall (66th best DE)

2022 DE Richard Seider - Balanced 4*, C overall, B potential - 45.2703678748446 overall (74th best DE)

Texas Tech has 9 DEs on the roster! No current superstars, but Andre Padilla is sure to change that, I'm very high on him. The last two years they scooped up 3 other top-75 DEs who all have high potential. I think down the line this will be a very scary, balanced DL you don't want to go up against (and they aren't going to be immediately thrust into starting positions until then)

#2: Purdue - 151.79

2022 DE Hector Galvan - Run Stopper 5*, B overall, C+ potential - 54.1084375 overall (3th best DE)

2022 DE Bryce Speer - Speed Rusher 5*, B overall, C potential - 53.0773958333333 overall (7th best DE)

2021 DE Joey Nwaba - Run Stopper 4*, C overall, C potential - 44.6098772459725 overall (135th best DE)

Purdue hasn't signed many DEs but their top-2 are the best in the country, and they are the only program to have signed two 5* DEs already. They'll likely shuffle them between LE/RE to get positional matchups between run stopping and pass rushing but frankly these guys can do it all. Interestingly, while the two of them walked in as the 2nd and 3rd best DEs in the room this year, they were both redshirted as Purdue decided playing C+s for now was fine so they can try and score a (SR) monster year with the 2 as bookends. The rest of the country has to hope they declare after 4 years on campus because those two as 5th years would be a nightmare to try and stop. They also signed Joey Nwaba who will be good in rotation I guess.

#1: Tennessee - 153.58

2022 DE Roger London - Speed Rusher 5*, B overall, B- potential - 54.8354166666667 overall (1th best DE)

2021 DE Douglas Dimmadome Jr. - Balanced 4*, B overall, B+ potential - 51.4848958333334 overall (11th best DE)

2023 DE Armando Medina - Speed Rusher 4*, B overall, C+ potential - 47.26174 overall (23th best DE)

2022 DE Steven Carnahan - Balanced 4*, C overall, C potential - 45.5414583333334 overall (68th best DE)

Yeah yeah nobody cares. London is taking a redshirt and Dimmadome has actually started racking up some respectable stats already in his rotational duties.

To be fair, I am starting a B+ senior and a B junior (both who are better attribute wise right now).
