Recruiting U series! The Wide Receivers

Recommended Posts

As we are nearing the end of the third sim recruiting cycle let's take a walk down memory lane and see which teams are leading at recruiting each position. This week we move from tight ends to wide receivers ;)

Methodology: So I have a "score" for every recruit in the sim thus far. It is basically my (educated) assumption of their starting overall + 2.5 years of progressions. So these player scores are my rough estimate for how good a player will be as a ~RS JR / Senior. Of course this is not precise, some will over-perform or under-progress but I think it's the best metric there is. In any case, for wide receivers we are taking the top THREE recruits for each school and simply adding them together and then ranking the schools.

Without further Ado:

Honorable mentions:

Arizona - 146.56

2022 WR Roberto Reyes - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential

2021 WR Keury Johnston - Speed 4*, B overall, B- potential, FL

2022 WR Oscar Castro - Route Runner 3*, C overall, B- potential

Purdue - 148.18

2023 WR Jesus Montijo - Route Runner 4*, B overall, C+ potential

2022 WR James Harris - Speed 4*, C overall, B + potential

2023 WR Jose Perez - Speed 4*, B overall, B- potential

Stanford - 149.43

2022 WR Victor Vigil - Speed 4*, B overall, B- potential

2022 WR Robert Bennett - Possession 4*, B overall C+ potential

2022 WR Thad Berga - Possession 3*, C overall, A- potential

Penn State - 150.47

2022 WR Brien Walker - Speed 5*, B overall, C potential

2021 WR Pedro Farrow - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential

2023 WR Michael Grayson - Red Zone Threat 4*, C overall, A- potential

Kentucky - 151.47

2023 WR Raul Zamora - Possession 4*, B overall, B- potential

2021 WR Eddie Gibson - Speed 4*, B overall, B- potential

2021 WR Johnathan Forrest - Possession 4*, B overall, C- potential;

#5: Houston - 152.69

2023 WR Alfonso Gunderson - Route Runner 4*, B overall A potential - 54.28 overall (8th best WR)

2022 WR George Williams - Speed 4*, B overall C+ potential - 52.034 overall (24th best WR)

2023 WR Randall Kierce - Possession 4*, B overall, B potential - 46.37 overall (85th best WR)

2022 WR Donald Mckenzie - Possession 3*, C overall, B+ potential (176th best WR)

2021 WR Yefry Ambriz - Route Runner 3*, C overall, B+ potential (243rd best WR)

2021 WR Shane Drabek - Route Runner 3*, C overall, B+ potential (244th best WR)

Houston has an actually quite good genned roster of 3 and 4 star WRs who are very good players, but none are true gamebreakers. Their last three seasons though have been absurdly deep with 6 top-250 WRs (3 of them top-100), and each year has seen them take 2 studs. Yefry is already a B overall, and they have a few more B overalls coming in with recently-signed ALfonso being a guy you look at having 1st round potential down the line. A true smorgasbord of targets makes a QBs life easy.

#4: Tulane - 153.37

2022 WR Jeffrey Bouthillier - Possession 5*, B overall, C potential (13th best WR)

2023 WR William Zeider - Speed 4*, B overall, A potential - 52.08 overall (23rd best WR)

2022 WR William Henry - Speed 4*, C overall, A potential (76th best WR)

Tulane on the other hand only has 3 total WR signees, but they are absolutely quality. Bouthillier is already WR3 and making a connection with PMS while Zeider and Henry have sky high potential for the future. Their down-roster WRs might not be world-beaters but they have some serious weapons for PMS to chuck it to.

#3: Florida State - 153.9

2022 WR Brad Pogue - Speed 5*, B overall, A- potential - 55.776 overall (1st best WR)

2021 WR J.C. Jefferson - Possession 4*, B overall, C potential - 49.54 overall (61st best WR)

2023 WR Lee Jones - Possession 4*, B overall C+ potential - 48.57 overall (67th best WR)

2023 WR Andrey Fuller - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential (68th best WR)

Florida State here is notable for signing the #1 WR croot of all time. Brad Pogue is an absolute menace with the capability of breaking NCAA records. They surrond him with a trio of WRs ranked in the 60s which is extremely good and those guys will command respect, either getting open themselves or preventing Brad from being double-teamed. Just a disgusting amount of talent in this room.

#2: Nebraska - 155.7

2021 WR Patrick Hernandez - Possession 5*, B overall, C potential - 53.34 overall (14th best WR)

2021 WR Ro'Derrick Billings - Route Runner 5*, B overall, D+ potential - 52.71 overall (21st best WR)

2021 WR Justin Saint Fleur - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential - 49.665 overall (56th best WR)

Nebraska opened crooting with a bang, signing what will probably be the best single-year WR class of all time. A pair of 5-star studs headlined it, and they added another 4* B overall for good measure. They haven't quite exploded on the field yet, but it's coming. Literally the only knock would be that they haven't built on that success the last two years, but who needs that when you have 3 guys who will be high A overalls.

And that's a wrap on today's position!

#1: Tennessee - 159.8

2023 WR Joseph Kleen - Red Zone Threat 5*, B overall, B+ potential - 54.556 overall (6th best WR)

2023 WR B.J. Flash - Speed 5*, B overall, B+ potential - 54.504 overall (7th best WR)

2022 WR George Simpson - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential - 50.74 overall (38th best WR)

2021 WR Alex Smith-Schuster - Possession 4*, B overall, C+ potential (57th best WR)

2021 WR Quincy Stanton - Route Runner 4*, B overall, C potential (61st best WR)

Something something Tennessee. Something something signed a bunch of good players. Something something, Savage and JOC are ready for the synergy. You get the picture
