Morgantown - Even if the results on the field aren't what Mountaineer fans are hoping to see, the coaching staff continues to find success on the recruiting trail during the 2023 season.  Currently sitting with a top 20 class, the Mountaineers were able to get commitments from 4 players since our last update bringing their class size up to 12 players so far this cycle.  The Mountaineers were able to bolster their special teams, secondary, and offensive line in this latest round of signings.

First up we have Harry Hacker, the big legged kicker from Harry Island, South Carolina.  Hacker already has a college level leg, but will need to continue to work on his kicking accuracy in order to transition to a successful career in college.  With current WVU kicker Vincent Pugh having one more year of eligibility remaining, look for Hacker to come in and take a redshirt in order to focus on improving his accuracy before he challenges for a starting position.

Next we have Donald Cummins, a strong safety from Braxley, Georgia.  Cummins is a natural 2-high safety who shows solid instincts in maintaining his zone assignments and coming down to make plays in the run game.  Another player who will likely be a redshirt candidate, look for Cummins to challenge for special teams reps during his redshirt freshmen season.  Scouts are saying that he has above average potential, and with the work could grow into a starting level player by the time he is an upper classman.

We continue the secondary trend with corner Robert Horne from Oviedo, Florida.  One of the areas where WVU was really trying to improve their depth was the corner position.  As the roster stands WVU will only have 5 corners on the roster for the 2024 season.  3 of them will be redshirt freshmen and 2 will be true freshmen.  Horne fits the bill as a player who will likely start a special teamer and dime/depth corner and look to improve his contributions and abilities by the time he is an upper classman.  The Mountaineers could look to sneak a redshirt in with Horne and utilize their safety depth as emergency corner depth.

Finally a team can never have too much depth on the offensive line and the Mountaineers continue to add players there with the Groveland, Florida product Donald Dunlap.  WVU has brought in a lot of young talent on the offensive line over the past few seasons, and Dunlap looks to challenge for reps there.  Depending on how the class size shakes out Dunlap could likely see a redshirt year to help him transition to the college game.
