In addition to the SimNBA, the SimBBA development team would like to announce our secret project from this off-season, the International Super League (ISL).

The ISL is a league alongside the SimNBA featuring some of the best basketball clubs in the world, from Europe to Asia. It is a professional league alongside the SimNBA and will allow players to make an impact and continue their careers outside of the SimNBA. With the incoming graduation class of over 600+ players, this league will allow these players the opportunity to play overseas and continue their careers whether it be in the SimNBA or the ISL.

Rules & Format

  • The ISL consists of two conferences: Euroleague and Asia League. Both conferences will hold 20 teams each representing the best clubs from across the globe.
  • The ISL Schedule will begin after the SimNBA all-star break, and will consists of 38 regular season games. Each team will play every team in their conference in a round-robin schedule both home and away.
  • There will be two ISL games per week in the season.
  • The ISL playoffs will take the top 8 teams from both conference leagues and place them in a bracket-like format. Each league will have a quarterfinals, a semifinals, a league finals, and then the ISL Finals. The ISL finals will consist of the Euroleague Champion and the AsiaLeague champion. The winner of the ISL Finals is crowned the ISL Champion.
  • Users will have access to the ISL Schedule and Stats from the Schedule Page & Statistics page
  • ISL Games will be streamed through the #simnba-live-int channel

How are the ISL Rosters built up?

  • For the initial rosters of each ISL team, each team will have two international players generated from the team’s respective home country. The age of these players will be between 16-18.
  • ISL teams will be signing SimNBA Free Agents, with a priority on younger UDFAs, sometime after the first phase of Free Agency after the 2023 SimNBA Draft.
  • The signing process for ISL teams will be done in a snake-like draft. After this season, it will be done based on losing record for each ISL team.
  • SimNBA teams will be able to pick up players currently participating in the ISL. They cannot, however, sign ISL players that a) are under the age of 18, and b) have not declared for SimNBA
  • If a player is picked up on an ISL team, the spot will be auto-filled with an open player. If there are no open players available, an international player from the club’s respective country will be generated.
  • SimNBA Teams can pick up players participating in the ISL up until the 62nd game of the regular season. After that, SimNBA teams will not be able to sign international players

  • The contracts for ISL players will vary between 1-2 years, and will be of minimum contract value. It will be pending on whether an ISL team will extend certain players.

Team Management

  • ISL teams cannot be owned or managed. They will be automated in terms of roster and in gameplan.
  • Once we've seen enough growth in the basketball sims, primarily SimNBA, we will be open to allowing ownership of an ISL team.
  • Users participating in SimNBA will not be able to own an ISL team simultaneously. It must be one team or the other.

Will the ISL cause any issues as far as schedule or managing all of the leagues?

The schedule was already generated through a script I've been using for conference games for SimCBB. Everything but the rosters are set. It will not be any hassle to run or manage these teams.

Exhibition Games with SimNBA Teams?

Perhaps at a later date in the future, but not right now.

Would this start the discussion of the SimBBA World Cup?

As the SimBBA leagues continue to grow season by season we will be open to the opportunity of designing and having a SimBBA world cup. Whether it will consist of leagues or clubs will remain to be seen. We need a lot more international players if we're going to have this.

Who's in the ISL?

  • Tons of research done into International Basketball leagues and clubs to determine where the sport was popular, where the sport was rising, and the quality of talent in which the clubs participated.
  • The initial teams for the International Super League represent some of the best clubs found in Europe and Asia.
  • Over 40 different clubs from twenty were selected for the International Super League, including teams from China, England, Germany, Australia, Japan, South Korea, Greece, Turkey, and Spain.
  • If the ISL remains popular and if the total number of SimNBA players grows, I already have the data on more clubs internationally not only in Europe and Asia, but also Africa and South America.

Without further ado, here are the first 40 clubs in the International Super League

Euroleague Club Country Asia League Club Country

Will we see X team as an expansion team in the ISL?

Again, depends on the popularity of the ISL and if we need further growth.
