IU Receives 3 Blue-Chip Commitments in Banner Day for Hoosier Football

Recommended Posts

There’s great cause for celebration amongst the Indiana faithful, as the program has already received a number of high-profile commitments this year.

WR J.J. Pilaf (5*, B/B-) seems tailor-made for the Hoosiers: an Indiana native with blazing speed who should make an immediate impact. He’ll join redshirt freshman WR Tyler Looney and true freshman QB Samuel Johnson (currently a RS) to form the core of a new Air Raid offense for years to come.

CB Matthew Mcallister (4*, B/C+) is a zone specialist out of Oklahoma and will be Indiana’s first blue-chip CB of this new regime. Next year the depth chart looks to be wide open at nickelback, so Mcallister could see the field very soon.

ILB Glenn Wilson (4*, C/B+) represents a turn of fortune after several high-profile LBs signed elsewhere in 2022. Wilson has a strong family history of military service but was convinced to attend Indiana on a football scholarship. He’ll battle with last year’s 3-star recruits Damon Devlin and Steven Fifer for playing time but could see activity on special teams.

These three new signings will be joined by OT Fernando Rodriguez (5*, B/D+), who recently announced his intention to attend Indiana next year as well. The Washington native is well aware that both of Indiana’s starting tackles are graduating seniors; he’s been very open about his goal to be on the field for the first snap of 2024.

These commitments bring @Piercewise1's two-year totals to 9 blue-chip recruits, including three 5* (and six with a B Overall grade). For comparison, of the 73 players remaining from before his arrival, only six were 4* and a whopping 51 were 1* or 2*. The team is also poised to make a defensive shift, bringing in big run-stopping bodies up front and more speed & depth at the linebacker positions.

Indiana (3-1, 1-0) is playing Maryland (2-2, 1-0) this week for 1st place in the B1G East. Then they have a week off before heading to Ann Arbor to play the Wolverines (0-3, 0-1), and will finally be back in Bloomington in week 8 for a game with Rutgers (3-1, 1-1).
