Week 1 Post Game Presser

What a way to start off the season for the MIdshipmen! They obliterated the Kennesaw State Owls and gave them a proper "welcome to the FBS" moment with a 41-3 walloping in their own stadium. The players were understandably excited but did not let this high get to them. One thing is clear; the energy and aura of this team has shifted. Coach SyndaKyt reflected on the win with this quote," A surefire way to win games is to control the game on the ground and defense. The people you may see getting the praise on campus would be our backfield or the secondary, but this game was won by our big uglies in the trenches." Navy rushed for 332 yards and 3 touchdowns, dominating the run game. On the flip side, they neutralized the Double Wing Offense, only allowing 2.46 yards per carry. The defense also continues the trend of disruptive turnovers with a pick and a fumble. Absolute Execution.

The player of this game would be Brent Lampkin, as he averaged 9 yards a carry on 20 carries for 178 yards, with two scores to go with it. The backfield all together was a constant force, tiring the front seven of the Owls. However, there was a more serious tone when it came to QB Kyung Hui. He was beating his self up for a bad interception in the redzone, but SyndaKyt has taken the blame for a lapse in judgement for that play call on 3rd and 2. SyndaKyt states," He really wants to be better and lead his team. Stats do not matter as much because he wants to be that guy who leads Navy to winning seasons. He has a lot to shoulder at such a young age, so we want to make it as easy as possible for him."

The real test comes next week in arguably their toughest opponent in the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. They handily beat the AZ State Sun Devils as they forced 6 picks in that win. The Midshipmen have a nearly impossible task walking into South Bend and winning. The choked lead from the previous season is still fresh on their mind, and they want to get that one back. It will be interesting to see the brain trust devise a plan to beat the more talented Notre Dame squad.
