Tulane Spring Practice

Recommended Posts

Tulane coming off a great season where they won the AAC and beat the runner up to the inaugural season national champs FSU in the Military Bowl. Despite a great season and a huge milestone for the program they aren't done and are starting to prepare for next season. The entire team reported to practice this past week and we got our first look at the 2024 squad.

This first week of practice was a relatively easy week working on getting guys back into top form, well at least for everyone that doesn't play QB. Coach Kgreene829 lost the only QB he has know in his coaching career and with a tough choice he is making sure that no matter what happens from now until opening week the starting QB will be the best guy for the job and in the best shape of his life. The rest of the team spent the majority of the week just with conditioning. While Bronson Morel Tulane's QB for the past 2 years took the QBs away to work with them himself.

The 3 QBs worked on their throwing and were working out while memorizing the playbook. Then at the end of the week we got our first look at the 3 QBs in action when the team ran a soft 4 on 4 with no pass rush just to start building chemistry with the WRs.

Paul McCullers-Sanders Completed 60% of his passes for 200 yards, 2 TDs, and 2 INTs

Gimel Kopech Completed 63% of his passes for 225 yards, 2 TDs, and 1 INT

Haloti Thomas Completed 65% of his passes for 250 yards, 3 TDs, and 0 INTs

PMS struggled early getting picked off by freshman CB Oscar Riser and then later junior CB Josh Blanco on but was able to find freshman Jeffrey Bouthillier twice later in the day and it looks like the two freshman are starting to get on the same page. Next up was Gimel Kopech the most talented pure passer of the three he threw an interception early on to freshman CB David Levine before finding freshman William Henry and junior Dashuan Knight for TDs. Haloti Thomas despite being the worst pure passer of the group thrived as his experience gave him a clear edge over his competition throwing a TD to all 3 WRs mentioned previously.

As things stand now Haloti Thomas would get the start with Gimel Kopech as the backup and PMS as the third string. While Tulane coaches have a lot of faith in PMS just 1 week into practice experience is king. We will continue to monitor spring practices and bring you updates at least every month.

Before we wrap up Tulane had a couple players who were held out of practice for various reasons

Junior FB J'Mon Marte for being caught at multiple parties with drugs and alcohol along with missing curfew every night out with a different girl is on probation for 3 weeks

Junior DE Donnie Jenkins is on indefinite academic probation after somehow managing to fail 34 credits last semester despite only taking 12 credits

Senior WR Treveon Love a miscommunication resulted in him thinking he was being moved toe DT and is out indefinitely until he drops all 250 pounds he put on

It is something we are weighing but at the end of the day we are going to be going with the guy who gives us the best chance to win and if that means we lose a guy to the portal then we will just have to live with that
