Ohio State Announces New Head Coach Hire

COLUMBUS, OH - After a roller coaster season in 2022, Ohio State was left coach-less and without a significant direction. Finishing their second straight season with a middling record, albeit with a satisfying win over Michigan, Athletic director Genius Smithson described their coaching search as an opportunity to take the program to the next level. "Ohio is a football rich state, and its one that deserves a top tier football program to represent it. We are doing everything in our power to find the coach who can make it this program." Said Smithson when asked for comment on the search.

 

It seems now they have found that coach, or at least hope they have. Earlier today a press release from the University announced relative unknown Coach Fever_ful will be taking the reigns in 2023 and beyond, and the ambitions of this rudderless program lie in his hands. The new coach comes in with little experience as a proven winner, but a lot of ideas on how to move this program forward.

 

In his introductory press conference, Coach fever_ful outlined his own vision for the program and the future. "I know just how good this program could be, I have seen them be a dominant power in the big ten in several parallel universes with myself at the helm and I know what it takes to build a contender.".

 

Whether the new coach is able to move the Buckeyes out of the doldrums and into contention for the Big Ten title remains to be seen, but the talent exists on the roster to make it a possibility. The question now becomes what levers he can pull to squeeze more success out a team that has underperformed expectations over its history.

Coach how long will it take to assert yourselves as the pre-eminent power in the state of Ohio, and how will you show recruits that you should be their first choice of destination?

I don't want to commit to any specific timeline, I think you have to come into this thinking about a sustainable process and that can take time. As long as we continue to make strides towards our goals year over year we know where we can reach in the long term and that is what is most important. As far as recruits go, we need to do a better job of pulling the talent that exists within our state. Ohio is fertile recruiting grounds but right now the makeup of our team doesn't reflect that. I am confident that once we show that we can be a regional power with the resources around us, I believe it will make those national recruits take notice.

What do you think you'll be able to compete with the top of the Big Ten right away or is the team still a ways off?

I'm certain looking at the guys on our roster that we have the talent to be competitive to any team we are facing all season. What we need to build as a program is consistency, and only time will tell when that consistency will start to show. Certainly there are areas I would like to see us build but creating a culture of consistency and accountability this year is the key to our long term success as a program.
