2023 Full Draft Picks & Rookie Salaries

Good morning all,

 

Short but dense update today. I'm going to review 4 items:

• Rookie Pay Scale
• Expected draft cost by team (as of today)
• Rules about trading picks
• Every draft pick and its owner, in order (as of 3/23/23)

Below is the rookie pay scale for the 2023 draft - the values are identical to last year since the salary cap did not increase. 1st round picks will have a 5th year option that their drafting team can pick up, but the mechanics have not been worked out at this time.

 

2. Draft Salaries by Team

Using the above scale and the draft pick ownership chart (which you can view here), I've calculated the expected cost for each team to sign their current draft picks. These are the annual numbers, so the draft class will cost this much toward your cap each year.

 

These numbers represent a point in time; they may shift once more trades occur. It is the owner's responsibility to manage their team's cap situation.

 

3. Rules about trading picks

One the league year begins (timing TBD), teams will be able to trade their 2023 and 2024 draft picks. Again, you can check the draft pick ownership chart to see what picks you have. Starting on the first day of the 2023 draft, teams may also trade their 2025 draft picks.

 

4. Full Draft Picks, in order

At the bottom of this article is the current draft order, determined by the below criteria. Except for trades, the order does not change between rounds. I'm dropping it here as a chart instead of a picture in case anyone wants to grab a copy for their own use.

 

1-18 are in reverse order by record

19-24 are the wild card losers by record

25-28 are the divisional round losers by record

29-30 are the conference championship losers by record

31 is the Super Bowl loser

32 is the Super Bowl winner

 

Tiebreakers are determined by strength of schedule (easier schedule, earlier pick). If you have questions about the picks or anything I've shown here today, feel free to contact me.
