[2023] Preseason Team Talent Rankings

Don't come after me about my dubious methodology, I won't listen to you (unless it's constructive advice), if you don't like your rank, #crootbetter or make your own ranking system.

 

Anyway, methodology-wise I used my super smart big brain intuition to estimate the overall rating for every player. For each team I picked their highest overall starting lineup (i.e. whether a 3-4 or 4-3 had higher rating to decide whether DT2 or ILB2 was the starter, etc..), and used the sum of those 24 (22 + K/P) overalls as the teams starting talent. I then added .1*the backup overall ratings to give a slight boost for teams with deep rosters now that we have injuries. Then I added smaller modifications to reward teams for having super stars on offense or avoiding obvious weaknesses on defense. That final sum is the total talent column, which is a pretty good proxy for how good the players on a team are (but do not take archetypes or good gameplanning / roster cohesiveness into account).

 

Also some fun counts for A overalls and blue chip players, as well as where teams ranked in the 2022 version of this measure (so you can see how non-predictive it is)
