Potential Feature: Slice of Life News

I'm considering on adding a feature to the tail-end of this offseason's development cycle. This would be developed after the test cycle and potentially after NFL is migrated on the interface. This is a feature that will not affect player or team performance, rather instead add some breath / flair to the sim in terms of adding depth to the players in the sim. Here is how it will work:

 

- In the weekly sync when transitioning from the current week to the next week, after all standings and yearly stats records are updated, a coin flip will occur in terms of whether a news log will be generated, with a number between 1-5 in terms of how many logs to create.

 

- For each log generated, a random team will be picked, and then a random player from that team will be picked. Based on this information, a blurb will be generated based on either a generic databank or a custom databank, which will then output a news log specifically about that player. The news log can be anything from a random event at practice involving that player, to a tweet the player could put out in terms of a certain class their taking, news about positive outreach involving the player, to on/off campus gossip.

 

In order for this to work, I will be working on a generic databank of potential logs so that any team or player can be selected. However, the next part will involve some involvement from the community.

 

The databank used for the news log generation can be different based on the team selected. Meaning, the databank for a player at Baylor will be different than say, a player at Tennessee. If you are interested in this feature becoming a reality, and also have in-depth knowledge about campus life at a particular university and would like to see custom content for that specific school, please fill out this form.

 

If you do submit potential news logs, thank you. I will not share the databank of news generated at this time, but will provide some examples and query-able terms that are allowed in both generic form and custom form.

 

NOTE: Please keep the suggestions as safe for work content. Any suggestions from the form feature graphic or violent content will not be accepted.

 

Queries:

• Team (Name, mascot, city, state, stadium)
  
• Player (name, position, home town)
  
• Recent game (opponent, win / loss, whether game was at home, away, or neutral site)
  

 

Examples of news logs:

 

This past Sunday, {team} {position} {player name} was seen at a local grocer in {team's city} doing service work for a non-profit after Saturday's big game.

 

{team} {player} missed classes on Monday after failing to set their alarm the night before.

 

{team} {position} {player} went viral on Twitter after tweeting that he's at {team} for football, not school.

 

Example of custom news:

Baylor {position} {player} and his crew were kicked out of Scruffy Murphy's while celebrating Saturday's big {recent game win/loss} against {recent game opponent}

 

Baylor {position} {player} was kicked out of a frat party on 10th Street after forgetting to bring their own Dr. Pepper.

 

A rumor has blown up UT Austin Twitter after {position} {player} was seen on a study date with a fellow classmate at Welch Hall for their {random class} exam last week.

 

Georgia Tech {position} {player} tried to go out barhopping with some teammates in Atlanta to celebrate his birthday but was turned down due to upcoming mid-term exams.
