Recruiting Position Rankings - OT

Recommended Posts

With the end of the second recruiting cycle at hand, I wanted to take some time and see which teams have been loading up on talent at each position. Where are the future stars going to come from, and where have people been focusing their efforts? This will be an X-part series depending on how many positions I want to do. Next up: OT

A quick note on methodology here. I have a very un-official system of scoring each recruit according to their projected junior year overall. So it takes stars, overall, and potential into account. I ranked all croots at each position and considered the top X players at each position that each school signed to get a holistic picture of which room is the best. So signing only 1 QB in 2 years can still be a top room if he's the #1 QB whereas if you only sign 1 WR in 2 years even if he's a 5 star A overall that won't be the best overall grouping.

Lastly, the "#X overall" rankings are position-specific, so #5 overall means the 5th best (probably tied) RB recruit in the Combined 2021 and 2022 classes

Again, a lot of these are just fun rankings, many other teams are in the convo and it depends a lot on whether you value having a great #1 option or more depth

Without further ado: the offensive tackles

Honorable mentions:

Baylor

Andrew Stinson - 4 star, B overall, C potential, Balanced, #30 Overall

Gustavo Johnson - 4 star, B overall, C potential, Run Blocking, #30 Overall

Joby Middlebrooks - 3 star, C overall, B+ potential, Balanced, #84 overall

Anthony Harvey - 3 star, C overall, B- potential, Balanced, #133 Overall

UNLV

Herman Cheeks - 4 star, B overall, C potential, Run Blocking, #30 Overall

Jahlil Jones - 4 star, B overall, C potential, Run Blocking, #30 Overall

Ramon Shepherd - 3 star, C overall, B+ potential, Run Blocking, #84 overall

Vincent Singleton - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Run Blocking, #100 Overall

Arkansas

Michael Prush - 4 star, B overall, C+ potential, Pass Blocking, #20 overall

Joe Wirth - 4 star, B overall, C+ potential, Pass Blocking, #20 Overall

JJ Elliott - 3 star, C overall, B- potential, Balanced, #133 Overall

Drew Baez - 3 star, C overall, C+ potential, Pass Blocking, #159 Overall

5th Place

:alabama:

Alabama

In 5th place is... your defending national champion Alabama. They had AI recruiting last year and still managed to swing a top run blocker with B overall Jerick Cabral. Then this season they went to shore up some lacking OL depth with a pair of 4 stars and a high 3. This team is deep on OT talent with all archetypes available as they look to reload for more title runs

2021 Signee

Jerick Cabral - 4 star, B overall, C potential, Run Blocking, #30 Overall

2022 Signee

Mark Cain - 4 star, B overall, C- potential, Pass Blocking, #45 Overall

2022 Signee

Stephen Moon - 4 star, C overall, B potential, Balanced, #54 overall

2022 Signee

Brian Hvizdak - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Pass Blocking, #100 Overall

2021 Signee

Reggie Krehbiel - 3 star, C overall, C+ potential, Pass Blocking, #159 Overall

4th Place

:kansasstate:

Kansas State

The Big 12 is an incredibly competitive conference, and K-State made sure to go and get some road graders and depth to stay competitive. If they can get a strong run game going and differentiate themselves from the pass attacks they could be very successful.

2022 Signee

Philip Hering - 4 star, B overall, B potential, #9 Overall

2021 Signee

Tony Wright - 4 star, B overall, C potential, #30 overall

2022 Signee

Charles Conn - 4 star, C overall, B- potential, #56 overall

2021 Signee

Justin McMahon - 3 star, C overall, B- potential, #133 Overall

2021 Signee

Carlos Harris - 3 star, C overall, C+ potential, #159 Overall

3rd Place

:tennessee:

Tennessee

Tennessee has signed an incredibly good and deep quartet of tackles the last 2 years. Frankly the only thing they're missing is a future 1st round, top of the line starter who can take on A overall 5 star DEs 1 on 1. Other than that though, they're loaded with options

2022 Signee

Jason Bush - 4 star, B overall, C+ potential, Run Blocking, #20 overall

2021 Signee

Myles Hernandez - 4 star, B overall, C+ potential, Pass Blocking, #20 overall

2021 Signee

Garrett Lazard - 4 star, B overall, D+ potential, Pass Blocking, #51 overall

2021 Signee

Ricky Drummond - 4 star, C overall, C potential, Balanced, #70 overall

2nd Place

:ballstate:

Ball State

Ball State signed maybe the number 1 OT in the country this year in John Nunez to pair with last years high-4 Chad Coleman. Those 2 are balanced players and can bookend the line for just about any scheme Ball State decides to run. They miss out on number 1 slot as the rest of their signees are just above-average 3, but they are absolutely ELITE at the top.

2022 Signee

John Nunez - 5 star, B overall, A- potential, Balanced, #1 Overall

2021 Signee

Chad Coleman - 4 star, B overall, C- potential, Balanced, #45 overall

2022 Signee

Yi Xiao - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Pass Blocking, #100 Overall

2021 Signee

Brett Federowicz - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Pass Blocking, #100 Overall

2021 Signee

Taylor Nugent - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Run Blocking, #100 Overall

1st Place

:pennstate:

Penn State

Who else?

Another of the 5-star squad this year was local Shawn Johnson. Of course Penn State had also signed a 5-star tackle last cycle, so having a pair of run blocking 5-stars (numbers 2 and 3 overall) is just nuts, especially when you consider what a stud RB they brought in as well. I think this team is just going to pave the way for a couple 2k + rushing yard seasons The only minor nitpick is the lack of depth behind them so the injury bug could really hurt maybe? I dunno, they'll be great

2022 Season

Shawn Johnson - 5 star, B overall, B+ potential, Run Blocking, #2 overall

2021 Season

Darius Mauer - 5 star, B overall, C potential, Run Blocking, #3 overall

2021 Season

Jordan Soroka - 3 star, C overall, C+ potential, Run Blocking, #159 overall
