Recruiting Position Rankings - TE

Recommended Posts

With the end of the second recruiting cycle at hand, I wanted to take some time and see which teams have been loading up on talent at each position. Where are the future stars going to come from, and where have people been focusing their efforts? This will be an X-part series depending on how many positions I want to do. Third Spot: TE

A quick note on methodology here. I have a very un-official system of scoring each recruit according to their projected junior year overall. So it takes stars, overall, and potential into account. I ranked all croots at each position and considered the top X players at each position that each school signed to get a holistic picture of which room is the best. So signing only 1 QB in 2 years can still be a top room if he's the #1 QB whereas if you only sign 1 WR in 2 years even if he's a 5 star A overall that won't be the best overall grouping.

Lastly, the "#X overall" rankings are position-specific, so #5 overall means the 5th best (probably tied) RB recruit in the Combined 2021 and 2022 classes

Again, a lot of these are just fun rankings, many other teams are in the convo and it depends a lot on whether you value having a great #1 option or more depth

Without further ado: the tight ends:

5th Place

:newmexico:

New Mexico

New Mexico has the doublet of Trae March-Lillard and Juan King. Last year they signed Trae who is a 4 star receiving threat with B potential. This year they followed it up with a blocking force in 3 star with A potential Juan.

2021 SigneeTrae March-Lillard - 4 star, C overall, B potential, Receiving, #7 overall
2022 SigneeJuan King - 3 star, C overall, A potential, Blocking, #23 overall

4th place

:utahstate:

Utah State

Utah State is here on the basis of signing two 4-star TEs in 2021. Funnily enough, Su'a-Filo only signed with them when Tennessee accidentally took a 25th commit from someone else and didn't have a scholarship for him. Luckily UTST had dropped a point on him earlier and were willing to accept his commitment. Anyways, it's a nice pair of blocking and vertical threat that should serve utah state quite well.

2021 SigneeEric Hosmer - 4 star, C overall, B- potential, Blocking, #9 overall
2021 SigneeBlake Su'a-Filo - 4 star, C overall, C+ potential, Vertical threat, #15 overall

3rd place

:bowlinggreen:

Bowling Green

With 3 signees, BGSU is definitely accumulating options for exploiting mismatches. A pair in 2021 and then another this cycle, all receiving threats if BGSU wants to roll out the aerial attack.

2021 SigneeBunmi Paulino - 3 star, C overall, B potential, Vertical Threat, #65 overall
2021 SigneeCaleb Sierra - 4 star, C overall, C+ potential, Receiving, #15 overall
2022 SigneeIrvin Barlow - 4 star, C overall, C+ potential, Receiving, #15 overall

2nd Place

:ku1912:

Kansas

Very surprising they didn't get the 1 spot. Kansas absolutely tore up TE recruiting. They signed FOUR 4-star TEs and another 3 just for good measure. No chance they all get on the field but it allows Kansas to pick the most promising players and allow the rest to do whatever. One thing is for sure, Bundy is going to be running a lot of Jumbo sets.

2021 SigneeSteel Blue - 4 star, C overall, A- potential, Receiving, #5 Overall
2021 SigneeDylan LaFramboise - 3 star, C overall, C potential, Blocking, #108 Overall
2021 SigneeTravis Siegrist - 4 star, C overall, C- potential, Blocking, #34 overall
2022 SigneeFrank Greco - 4 star, C overall, C+ potential, Vertical Threat, #15 overall
2022 SigneeTravis Campbell - 4 star, C overall, B- potential, Receiving, #9 Overall

1st Place

:colorado:

Colorado

Maybe unexpected to see another team over Kansas, but Colorado gets the nod from signing a 5 star at the position in addition to a 4 last year. They are a blocking - receiving pair as well, so the buffs really struck gold here with the position solidified as one of the nations best for the next several years.

2021 SigneeRaymond Perez - 4 star, C overall, C potential, Receiving, #26 overall
2022 SigneeKenneth Ring - 5 star, B overall, C potential, Blocking, #1 Overall
