There is a lot of hype around campus as the Fighting Illini will play in the NCAA for the first time ever this season. The team hopes their success from the Collegiate Basketball Association will shift over to the NCAA, but as things stand, it seems rather unlikely that is the case. The Illini will hope to prove all the doubters wrong and pull out a respectable season with hopes for the future. The first season might be a massive test for the Illini, especially the slate of games they have. Here is the team's home schedule for the upcoming year:

 

Week 1 - East Carolina

Week 2 - Colorado

Week 3 - Georgia Tech

Week 4 - La Salle

Week 5 - Ohio State

Week 6 - Rutgers

Week 7 - Purdue

Week 8 - Wisconsin

Week 9 - Iowa

Week 10 - Michigan

Week 10 - Minnesota

Week 11 - Northwestern

Week 13 - Indiana

Week 14 - Michigan State

 

The program has also revealed the promotional schedule for select home games this season, which the university is trying to experiment more with. Here are the games that include promotions that you will most likely be looking forward to for the upcoming year (Note: Not every game will consist of a promotion.)

Week 1 vs. ECU - Opening Day

The best day in all of College Basketball (for any team), the home opener! Come see the Illini make their NCAA debut at home as they take on fellow CBA transition team, the ECU Pirates! The Illini will look forward to keeping themselves undefeated against East Carolina as they transition to the NCAA level. Come one, come all!

 

Week 2 vs. Colorado - Wear Orange Night

Show your Illini spirit for our game against the Colorado Buffalo as we celebrate the first Orange Out of our NCAA run! Be sure to wear anything orange, or anything ILLINI Orange. We want to see the entire center flooded with orange to cheer on our boys as we square off and defeat Colorado! Be on the lookout for some All-Orange T-Shirts, which we will give to the first 7,500 fans.

Week 3 vs. Georgia Tech - ACC-Big 10 Challenge

 

One of the best traditions in Big Ten basketball is officially coming to Champaign! So come one, come all and cheer our boys to victory as we face off against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets! We will make sure to make the Big Ten proud!

 

Week 5 vs. Ohio State - Illini Football Appreciation Night

 

After once again another STELLAR season by the football team, the Illini basketball team would like to appreciate all of the hard work that they brought us this year in our game against Ohio State! Come down to celebrate both of our teams in a game of history and tradition!

 

 

Week 7 vs. Purdue - Military Appreciation Night

 

We salute America and all that have served to protect our great country. And we will appreciate everything that they have done for us in our game against Purdue. Those who currently serve or have served our great nation are welcome to attend. We will also be giving out camo caps to the first 7,500 fans that arrive.

 

Week 8 vs. Wisconsin- Wear Orange Night (Again)

You thought we would do only ONE Orange Out this year? Think again! This year, we are encouraging fans to wear orange again to show our support for the team through this transition! Come on out, cheer us on, and flood the center with orange AGAIN as we face off against the Wisconsin Badgers!

 

Week 9 vs. Iowa - Dad's Day Night

 

A Football tradition will also spill out to our basketball team for the 2022 season! Celebrate Dads who went to UIUC and dads of people who went to UIUC with a game against the Iowa Hawkeyes. This one is for all the dads everywhere!

 

Week 10 vs. Iowa - Mom's Day Night

 

This tradition won't stop at just Dad's Day; we have decided to celebrate Mom's Day as well! So join us on our second home game of Week 10 against the Minnesota Golden Gophers as we celebrate all moms -- no matter if they went to the university or have their son/daughter go to this university! This one is for Moms everywhere! Make sure to look out for 7,500 pink hats, all to the first 7,500 fans who come into the center.

Week 11 vs. Northwestern - Illini Esports Night

 

This game will celebrate one of the best, most decorated eSports programs in all of the college eSports realm! So come on down and support them as we face off against the Northwestern Wildcats. In attendance for this game will also be our Collegiate champion Overwatch team, so if you want... go ahead and meet them!

 

Week 14 vs. Michigan State - Senior Night

 

The final home game of the season will come against the Michigan State Spartans! Come on down and support our seniors as they play in their last home game of the season! A special ceremony will be provided before the game, so come down early!

 

With the basketball scene changing for the University of Illinois, there is a lot of hype around the air. And I guarantee that these promotions will hopefully fill State Farm Center in what should be the season to remember. Or forget. I don't really know how this will turn out. But I'm sure this team will remember this as their first season in the NCAA.
