Wisconsin Badgers Season Preview

Recommended Posts

Madison, WI – The Wisconsin Badgers are looking forward to a season of success with a lineup of youth as they do not have any seniors in the starting lineup. This is going to be a team that surprises some people this year as they could turn a roster that looks average into something special. Below I take a look at the Badgers heading into the year.

Projected Starters

G - Amos Quinn - SO - B overall

F - Jeramy Boot - JR - B overall

F - Andrew Jones - JR - B overall

C - William Sun - FR - B overall

C - Ian Mccall - FR - B overall

Key Bench Contributors

G - Roy Barnes - SR - C overall

G - Ralph Long - SR - C overall

F - Nicholas Mitchell - JR - C overall

The roster is one of the most average rosters in the Big Ten. There are rumors that freshman center Ian Mccall is going to redshirt and that will really hurt this club as he is their only A/A rebounder and defender. However, that will set them up for success next year with him coming back for 1-2 years to hold down the middle prior to the NBA. I worry about the ability to defend with this roster and also their scoring as I think they'll be reliant on the 3-point shot. Coach @kwheele has some work cut out for himself but will get them on the right track at some point during the year.

Non-Conference Schedule

Week 1A: @ UMBC

Week 1B: Butler

Week 2A: @ Utah State

Week 2B: @ West Virginia

Week 3A: Boston College (ACC-B1G Challenge)

Week 3B: Georgetown

Week 4A: Tulane

Week 4B: @ Kansas

Wisconsin opens with a very tough slate as they face both UMBC and Utah State on the road in the first three games. Butler should be a nice game for them to get some extra players some action but this is not an easy overall schedule with a few teams that can really score the basketball. Non-conference projection: Low: 2-6, High 5-3.

Overall Thoughts

I think the Badgers are a team that a lot of people will write off early on, but I believe that they have the parts to be a solid team this season. This is a team that is going to be better next year than this year but they have the ability to be pretty solid this season. They are going to be solid in all facets of the game but I worry that they just don't have a player who can take over a game. Look for them to be better late in the season. Prediction: 14-14 (10-10 B1G)
