Purdue Boilermakers Season Preview

Recommended Posts

West Lafayette, IN – The Purdue Boilermakers look to have more success this winter on the hardwood than they did this fall in the football season. Purdue has high hopes coming into the season and will look to coach @BabaYaga for leadership. Below we take a quick look at Purdue prior to the season.

Projected Starters

G - Richard Griffin - SR - A overall

G - William Price - JR - B overall

F - Pedro Rodriguez - FR - A overall

F - Neil Maldonado - JR - B overall

C - Gabriel Glover - SO - B overall

Key Bench Contributors

F - Srinivasan Dionsio - FR - B overall

G - Jarrod Causey - SR - B overall

C - Berry Hutson - SR - B overall

Purdue has a solid rotation with some good talent in the starting lineup. They are fairly young as well which could lead to some early season bumps. Rodriguez is the best freshman in the country and Purdue will look to him often. Purdue has two things that stand out quickly: they are highly efficient at the rim offensively and will not be able to guard a chair. Look for Purdue to be in some high-scoring games this year.

Non-Conference Schedule

Week 1A: Kansas

Week 1B: UMBC

Week 2A: Xavier (Gavitt Tip-Off Games)

Week 2B: @ Georgetown

Week 3A: Clemson (ACC-B1G Challenge)

Week 3B: Tulane

Week 4A: Marquette (Neutral)

Week 6A: Notre Dame (Neutral)

Purdue has a very challenging non-conference schedule this season. They start off with a solid matchup against Kansas before facing off with UMBC and Xavier in what looks to be two of the top teams in the country. Purdue is at risk of starting off 1-3 this season but will be challenged every single week. Non-conference projection: Low: 3-5, High 6-2.

Overall Thoughts

This is a team that I think is better on paper than most expect. They are going to be very stout on the inside and will show the ability to rebound at a high level. They might be among the NCAA leaders in the least 3-pointers attempted because they just simply don’t have many shooters. I think this team will be challenged early but fight to prove themselves in conference play. Prediction: 18-10 (14-6 B1G)
