Nebraska Cornhuskers Season Preview

Recommended Posts

Lincoln, NE – The Nebraska Cornhuskers are looking forward to a strong season on the court that will help them forget about the dismal football product that they showed this fall. The Cornhuskers look to be a solid team this season and should surprise some people. Below I take a look at the season ahead for Nebraska.

Projected Starters

G - Alvaro Calderon - JR - B overall

G - Mitchell Henderson - SO - B overall

F - Eric Galvez - SR - B overall

F - Christopher Merlo - SO - A overall

C - Bernard Pheanis - SR - B overall

Key Bench Contributors

C - David Nation - SO - C overall

F - Robert Quinn - JR - C overall

C - Richard Nichols - JR - C overall

Merlo is one of the best sophomores in the country and he will provide great value for this Nebraska group. I also like the pieces around him as they have a mix of good shooters and defenders. I don’t think that they can get much into their bench but should put a good product on the floor. This is a team that is not great at any one thing, but good at a few different facets of the game.

Non-Conference Schedule

Week 1A: South Dakota State

Week 1B: Bowling Green

Week 2A: Creighton (Gavitt Tip-Off Games)

Week 2B: at Tulane

Week 3A: at Syracuse (ACC-B1G Challenge)

Week 3B: @ UC Irvine

Week 4A: @ East Carolina

Week 4B: @ Kansas State

Nebraska put together a fairly challenging non-conference schedule. They start off with two of the best teams in the country at home. They have a few winnable games before getting on the road for their last three games of the slate. Don’t be surprised to see Nebraska start slow but finish strong. Non-conference projection: Low 3-5, High 5-3.

Overall Thoughts

This team is going to be better than it looks on paper. They will be able to score and defend but might struggle with those teams that have a few studs. I expect Nebraska to be in almost every game that they play this season and should have a respectable showing in the Big Ten this season. The only thing I really worry about with them is their depth as it isn’t particularly strong. Coach @alexfall862 will have to work some magic to hide some players out on the floor. Prediction: 14-14 (10-10 B1G)
