Big XII Bowl Preview Week 3

Pocket Full of Pennies' Deep in the Heart of Texas Bowl

:texas: Texas (6-6) vs. Georgia (7-5) :georgia:

Stars are "bright" deep in the heart of Texas. This should be an interesting game but I would say both teams are about a year or two from lighting things up.

Texas is paced by Ibraheim Owens at RB and Hanser Zagurski at QB, yet neither have been the most effective with 60 rushing and 258 passing per game respectively.

Georgia on the other side has some notable wins and a solid defense. They allow roughly 300 yards and only 14.5 points a game. The problem though is their offense isn't much better at 386 yards and 15 points a game.

I see this being a low scoring game with who ever can find a way to sustain a drive or two winning. I'll be a homer here and say Texas wins 14-10.

Alamo Bowl

:usc:USC (9-3) vs. TCU (9-4) :tcu:

Both of these teams were bubble CFP teams but are now matched up in the prestigious Alamo Bowl. Remember the Alamo? Well don't forget about these two powerhouses either.

TCU is clearly led by their firepower on offense. With Big XII Player of the Year Andrew Solano at QB tossing over 5,200 yards and 36 TDs and two WRs over 1,500 receiving yards, they can score at any time and anywhere on the field. For this much power through the air, don't forget about Corey Brockers on the ground rushing for 934 and 16 TDs. On defense Travis Cravens will be all over the place, 97.5 tackles and 22 TOLs as a SO at ILB is almost unheard of. They will also get support from SR FS Zack Trawick.

USC has a similar setup. They are led by Pocket QB Julian Longacre tossing 344 yards a game at an efficient 62% completion rate. They do however have a bit more effective rushing attack (compared to TCU) leaning on SR RB Erik Smith at 4.89 yards a rush. DT Destiny Anderson will look to clog up things in the middle and get into the backfield with 28 TOLs and 4 sacks.

Anthony Shelton (SR CB from TCU) will have an INT and the Solano-Colon connection will have at least 1 long TD. I have TCU winning 42-24 in a game that will stay close for a while but TCU pulls through.
