Shunned Virginia Tech Hokies Coach to Step Down

Recommended Posts

Blacksburg, VA — Breaking news out of Lane Stadium as Head Coach of the Virginia Tech Hokies, Suffocation, is expected to resign following his REI’s Emerald Bowl overtime blunder.

The first year head coach had a largely successful season as he led the previously unguided Hokies to their first ever bowl game following a 7-5 season. That is where the success ended though, facing a 6-6 Colorado, a slew of errors in the second half including some questionable play calling on 4th down, caused Virginia Tech to fall two scores behind.

The team managed to fight back and take the game to overtime, an overtime which quickly turned to triple overtime as the teams traded field goals back and forth but as the 3 point game came down to a VT 4th and 13 on Colorado’s 28 yard line, coach Suffocation decided it was time to end the kickathon and not learn from his previous 4th down mistakes.

An off tackle run to star running back Bennie Braden was made, a call he has made many times this season but one which probably shouldn’t have been made when needing 13 yards. A call which he believed ‘was the answer’ as he doubled down on the decision in his post game presser.

Turns out, it wasn’t the answer as Braden made 3 yards before simply stepping out of bounds, before any defensive contact was made. The fans couldn’t believe it, the players couldn’t believe it and the stadium fell completely silent for a few brief moments before Colorados celebrations commenced.

It’s largely speculated that the players made their feelings known to the coach after the game, numerous unrepeatable comments were made which left him no choice but to step away from the team.

The news isn't considered a shock to many Hokies fans as Suffocation has been heavily linked with 2023 new comers and local rivals James Madison. Many people have speculated the coach only installed a handful of plays and by double overtime, quickly ran out of things to call. The coach has repeatedly denied this claim, stating two handfuls of plays were infact installed but regardless of the size of coaches playsheet, the one matter of fact remains… Suffocation sucks at play calling and JMU fans should be scared.
