Week 6 Review

Week 6 Score: Oregon 31 - Colorado 28

POTG: QB Nathan Frazier Jr. 19-30 passing for 223 yards and 4 TDs

What happened: Nathan Frazier entered the game under tremendous scrutiny after his poor performance a week ago led to fans chanting for the backup. This week didn’t start much better, as Oregon fell into a 14-0 hole in the first quarter after opening the game with 4 consecutive 3 and outs. Finally, on the 5th drive, Frazier made a big play hitting Jerry Lawson for a 53-yard gain to set up a touchdown to cut the lead in half. After that, the offense went cold again until WR Malcolm Tillman blocked a punt in the late 2nd quarter. Two plays later, Frazier found Tillman in the corner of the endzone to tie the game up at 4. The Ducks hit halftime up 21-14 after scoring 21 unanswered points in the 2nd quarter.

They picked up where they left off in the 3rd, scoring 10 more points to stretch the lead to 31-14. Colorado wasn’t done though, and they fought their way back into the game with 2 4th quarter TDs to cut the Oregon lead to 31-28 with just under 6 minutes to play. That was as close as Colorado would come as the Oregon defense held on to close out the game.

Week 7 Preview

Match-up: Oregon (2-3) vs Washington (3-3)

What to watch for (Oregon): Is the offense back on track or was the Colorado game a fluke? While you can’t rely on a blocked punt and a fumble recovery in the Red-Zone to set up scoring drives on a weekly basis, it was refreshing to see the offense take advantage of favorable situations that they may not have converted into points earlier this season. It’s back home next weekend to take on Washington and their high-flying passing attack let by QB Isaiah Pumphrey.

What to watch for (Washington): Despite putting up a lot of passing yards the last 2 weeks, Washington has walked away with a loss in each contest. Last week Pumphrey topped 300 yards but failed to find the endzone against Arizona State. Washington needs to put points on the board early and try to take away Oregon’s rushing attack. Limiting the Ducks’ rushing attack is always a priority, especially for a Huskies defense that has allowed 3 100-yard rushers in the last 2 weeks.
