Trojan™ Wrap Up: Week 5 "Road Rally"

Recommended Posts

Welcome to Episode 1 of the Trojan™ Wrap Up,

In Week 5, The future was on the forefront of every Trojan's mind going into Statesboro. With a new Head Coach, new philosophies, and a new mindset Troy was ready to rock Southern's world and finally get into the W column of what has been a long season. Many media members from around the nation had questions for the new ball coach as he embarked on this new endeavor in Troy.

Midwest Mania Reporter: A lot of teams who are looking to stabilize often look towards the O-Line in order to offer MAXIMUM PROTECTION for their QB and to give them time to throw. What do you envision doing to start?

Coach Base: "We pride ourselves on offering the max protection possible to our players and that's exactly what we want our OL to do for our QB. We also want to make sure everyone stays safe on and off the field."

The Tennessean Reporter: Do you think you’ll be able to convince Alabama to actually play another in-state team? And if so, how much would you beat them by?

Coach Base: "Alabama has reached out to the "little brothers" in the past. But we will not walk anywhere near Bryant-Denny if they don't come to the Vet first. And for the latter: we'd show how "little brother" can compete in a televised game for sure."

Nevertheless: The team was working hard and practice and ready for the game and after a long week of practice the team headed east to face their inter-conference foe.

Initially, Troy stopped a long drive with their backs against the wall at their own two-yard line. Then newly named starting Quarterback, junior Aaron Brigham, decided to start Troy games like those of the past... with an interception within the first few plays. After forcing the Eagles to a field goal, during the kickoff you could see the captains of both sides of the ball rallying the team making sure "This will NOT be another loss". With that newfound fire the Trojan defense in their new 4-3 scheme played lights out. For two-and-a-half quarters however, the Trojans were left scoreless and then opportunity struck. A nicely placed punt put Southern deep in their own territory, you could feel the pressure rising up and then BAM. A lofted ball sent up towards Taysom Martino seemed like it was about to lead to a touchdown and an even wider deficit, but Free Safety John Acklin was there to save the day as he not only intercepted the ball but took it all the way to the house for the first touchdown of the new Trojan administration. A pen could be heard dropping on the opposing side whereas the entire Troy sideline was as loud as it's ever been. After that the Georgia Southern offense seemed deflated, nothing could work for them. Then after a combo of passes leading to an easy 24-yard Trojan field goal, the game was practically over. As the final whistle blew all the Gatorade in the world was poured on the Trojans' newest addition to their family, their head coach.

After the game he gave a speech to his team in the locker room: "Today was a great day, Today is how you start being a great team, Today is how you start being a dynasty. What you boys showed me after those first two drives was something I had not seen from any football team I have ever coached. I'm proud of you all, enjoy your week of rest; but be ready for Arkansas State. Because we're coming..."

On the recruiting side, The Trojans made a broad arrangement of moves for players in the southeast, including several in-state products of all types. Many Alabama recruits when asked were excited by the idea that the Sun Belt was getting some fresh blood on the recruiting trail, since many of these players are currently being courted by the likes of out of state schools such as New Mexico, Miami, and Tulane.

Rumor has it to expect Troy to make a few early splashes on high level talent but really are casting a wide net to get as many players dedicated to playing for what's on the front of their jersey than what's on the back of it.
