UTEP fans are cheering last night -- UTEP Miners achieved their first ever win in the SimFBA after last night's match against the New Mexico Lobos!

A grueling, close match up in Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso, the Miners held onto hope in spite of three picks thrown by starting QB Jeremiah Donaldson. A strong defensive showing by linebackers Jose Friedrich, Brock Bass and defensive ends Woodrow Gonzalez and Praise Simonson were critical in stopping a talented run offense from the Lobos.

The Lobos were making plays in the air off the arm of Daurice Maile; with spectacular performances by TE Tyler Turner and Jake Ramczyk; but the stuffing defense from UTEP was all that was needed to stop the Lobos in their track; starting RB Jerick McGrath only amounted to 47 yards off 22 rushing attempts -- a faltering 2.14 yards per rush.

A close match up through the 4th Quarter, the score 10-6 in favor of the Lobos. All of this changed on the last drive of the game when UTEP QB Jeremiah Donaldson completed a pass to Brady Shead for fifteen yards; and followed by an incompletion, handed the ball off to RB Reggie Beavan for a 36 yard touchdown as the final play of the game. With a success extra point, UTEP came out on top 13-10.

Next week, New Mexico play at home in a tough non-conference game to the SMU Mustangs. As for UTEP, they will be keeping their heads high in another home matchup, this time to non-conference opponent Wyoming Cowboys.

Maybe one day we vanquish another.
