Preseason NFL power Rankings

This will be the first in the (hopefully) season long NFL power rankings series. This first post is going to be a baseline "talent" on paper evaluation before game results are taken into account and can be loosely used for how "impressive" wins are.

My money's on LV surprising people. Most of the offense is rough, but they have a great passing battery and solid line play on defense.

 

I think Cincinnati and Houston's defenses are extremely suspect because not only is the average lower, I think they're one of the few teams without at least 1 above average player at each level of the defense between dline, lbers, and secondary.

 

Also looks like Arizona v LA should be a crazy divison race with the other two teams looking like contenders for top picks.

NFC East Offensive Rankings: 6, 7, 8, 8

All of the NFC East are in the top 16 except the Cowboys.

 

They're 18th.

 

Good lord this division is going to suckkkk. But it'll be the greatest. And it'll suckkkkk

This makes me feel better about a close road win over Detroit.

 

Plus 3 NFC north teams in the top 15? Gonna be a good division battle.

Cowboys prob slightly under rated too, really, especiall with Noel at QB.

The most interesting thing about these rankings is that the standard deviation for Offenses is relatively low compared to the Defenses.

 

Arizona and Minnesota are ~5-6 points higher than most of the other teams at #1 and #2, but most teams in the top 10 or so fall in the 2-3 range.

 

Washington, Jacksonville, and Detroit are all ~5-8 point range higher than average with Washington being a full 8.9 points higher than the average.

 

The top 14 or so offenses are in the 2+ range over average while the same threshold is true for the top 8 defenses.

 

Washington, Jacksonville, and Miami are all heavy favorites with their ratings all 4+ above the average for total score followed by Arizona and Detroit shortly after before a bunch of ~+1-2 range teams.
