13 quarterbacks to choose from... An unlucky situation or a fortunate one?

Welcome to MLive's breakdown of this Michigan team's quarterback situation.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Michigan enters the 2022 season with a very, um, peculiar and totally-not-self-inflicted situation. After the team recruited not one, not two, but SEVEN quarterbacks, the Wolverines now have 13 quarterbacks rostered. Unless coach @subsequent wants to change things up in college football scene with the mythical 2QB system, he will need to make some difficult decisions to figure out who will be starting under center. This past week we have had the exclusive opportunity to see these 13 young men behind the closed doors at the Al Glick Field House.

Four players rose to the top from our observations.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Vladimir Dawson

Scrambler, Sr, 3-star

1655541451257.png.539da3882270e25cd957454413926c65.png

2021 stats: 12 GP, 29/49 passing for 230 yds, 3 TD, 2 INT; 79 rushes for 215 yds, 2 TD, 3 Fumb, 3/5 receiving for 53 yds, 1 TD

Dawson started the season as the starter last year, but after a few disappointing games, he was benched for then-senior Jonu Newton. Dawson went on to see snaps at RB for the rest of the season. Now that Newton has graduated, Dawson appears to be the presumptuous next batter up again. Dawson showed flashes of his athleticism in his 12 games, finding the endzone in one way or another on six different occasions. Dawson is also the only player with experience. Out of the 13, he is the only one who saw play time.

Prediction: Starter

Henry Brown

Scrambler, (Fr), 4-star

Brown took a redshirt last year. He’s one of the fastest guys in the QB room with B speed, but falls behind Dawson in agility. However, Brown is probably the best pure rusher of the quarterbacks. This makes for some very interesting potential uses for a player with his skillset. With A catching, we might even see him snag a few balls on trick plays.

Prediction: 2nd string

Bobo Sims

Field General, (So), 3-star

Like Brown, Sims also redshirted last year. Bobo will not the most athletic player on the field, but he is going to be the smartest and the most technically able. With A Football IQ and C for both Throw Power and Throw Accuracy, as well as B- potential, there is a lot to like about Sims. If he is surrounded with the right amount of protection, he will pick apart defenses, rarely making wrong decisions.

Prediction: 3rd string

DeShawn Rogers

Scrambler, Jr, 2-star

The former 2-star recruit is probably one of the best runners in the QB room. He is very fast and agile. We expect him to feature for the Wolverines in the near future, possibly even sneak a few games this year unless he gets red-shirted.

Prediction: 4th string

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From what we have seen so far, we don't expect to really see the other quarterbacks to make a huge impact this year or the next. Just like how we saw Vladimir Dawson feature on the offense in other areas outside of under center, we expect the Michigan to make similar quirky decisions with the team again. Will we see a quarterback return kicks? Run routes? Make tackles? Who knows, with this completely unqualified man making recruiting choices, anything can happen.

We did, however, grab a few notes on the rest.

Chance Brown

Scrambler, Sr, 2-star

One of the fastest QBs on the team, and also one of the strongest. Decent throw power, but need to work on his accuracy.

Spencer Pressly

Scrambler, Fr, 3-star

Top half in terms of speed with great ball security to match. Decently agile. Also has good hands. Perhaps could feature as a sure-handed tight end.

Blake Monasterios

Balanced, Fr, 3-star

Among the remaining QBs, has some of the best throwing mechanics and power. Good potential, but so far needs time before he can be considered in the running for the starting role.

Tyson Mack

Field General, So, 2-star

Very smart player, rarely makes mistakes, but question marks on athletic ability.

Josh Diaz

Field General, Fr, 3-star

Also a smart player with good hands. Good throwing motion with plenty of zip. With a good O-line, could flourish as an accomplished passer with even a few breakout runs on a spread option call.

Freddy Davis

Scrambler, Fr, 3-star

Davis is another speed merchant who has some of the most sure-fire hands of the group. He needs to work on his throwing or he will mostly find himself in wildcat and obvious rushing situations.

Andrew McCann

Balanced, Fr, 3-star

Decently athletic quarterback with good catching abilities. We may see him line up as a TE thanks to his speed and hands.

Carlos Price

Balanced, Fr, 3-star

If McCann could feature as a TE, Price has an even better chance thanks to his B catching.

Jonathan Hall

Balanced, Fr, 3-star

Hall is the walking definition of "jack of all traits, master of none," except "jack" is an overstatement. Besides Stamina, Injury, and Potential, he has no attribute above a D.

The best worst part about this whole situation is that only 2 are seniors and 3 upperclassmen. Michigan is gonna rock at least 10 QBs no matter what they do in recruiting for at least the next 2 seasons.

When are we going to see an 11 QB formation?
