Minnesota Vikings 2022 Draft Class + PSA

Minnesota Vikings 2022 Draft Class

Round 1 Pick 7 - WR Alex Williams III, Wisconsin

121 Receptions, 2567 Yards, 19 TD

4.39 40 (Combine) 39.23" Vertical (Combine) 130 Broadjump (Combine) 35 Wonderlic

4.35 40 (Pro Day) 40.74" Vert (Pro Day) 131 Broadjump (Pro Day)

The Vikings made a major splash, adding to one of the already electric offenses of the League with the extremely talented Alex Williams III. Minnesota traded their 2nd, 4th, and a conditional pick next year, along with their 1st rounder this year, to Seattle to move up to the 7th overall selection for Williams, who led the nation in receiving yards. Local pundits are reporting they were also interested in ILB Jehu Ginn and QB Yusei Asencio, but with Ginn selected a few picks earlier, the team decided to back FA-signee QB Christian Sinnock, as the Vikings give him every opportunity to succeed. Williams will be able to see action immediately in the Vikings game plan, but with Mathew Madden and Paul Gurule as veteran pass catchers, he won't have to be the top target or face the best defensive backs for some time.

Round 3 Pick 25 (89th overall) - RB Cooper McGough, Virginia

2962 Yards, 6.16 avg, 20 TD

78 Receptions, 628 Yards, 6 TD

4.44 40 (Combine) 39.51" Vertical (Combine) 6.65 3-Cone (Combine) 30 Wonderlic

4.36 40 (Pro Day) 39.82" Vert (Pro Day) 6.67 3-Cone (Pro Day)

The Vikings continued to add to their nightmarish offensive depth with one of the most prolific runners from the college game. Like Williams, McGough led the nation (in rushing yards) in 2021, but his dual-threat ability makes him more than just a change of pace back to spell veteran RB Bruno Hanson. Expect McGough to get looks in space - when the team needs a receiving option out of the backfield, or perhaps even as a threat in the return game with his dynamic athleticism.

Round 5 Pick 25 (153rd overall) - CB Morgan Johnson, Coastal Carolina

36 tackles, 2PD, 1 INT

4.56 40 (Pro Day) 36.42" Vertical (Pro Day) 7.73 Zone Coverage Drill (Pro Day)

I have no idea who this guy is, he wasn't on my draft board. Someone is welcome to trade for him ?

Round 6 Pick 8 (168th overall) - DE Mitch Rivers, Texas A&M

44 tackles, 3 Assists, 23 TFL, 4.0 sacks

Rivers did not have a Pro Day, nor was he invited to the combine, but that didn't negate interest from the Vikings. Those with inside access to the Vikings say Rivers was much higher on their board than 168th, and his ability to disrupt just past the line of scrimmage gives the team hope he might one day be a solid starter at left end, playing line of scrimmage control against opposing RTs.

Round 7 Pick 25 (217th overall) - SS Anthony Ahmed, Louisiana-Monroe

52 tackles, 5 assists, 3 TFL, 2 INT

Another player I know nothing about. Do not miss the draft if at all possible. Decent Zone coverage drill ratings.

Round 8 Pick 8 (232nd overall) - CB Nick Beltre, Arkansas

20 tackles, 1 INT

Ditto Johnson & Ahmed

Public Service Announcement

Do not miss the draft.
