Geaux Saints! New Orleans Introduces 2022 Draftees

Recommended Posts

METAIRIE, Louisiana -- Owner/GM/Head Coach Bingo was vibrating with energy at his press conference introducing the newest members of the New Orleans Saints on Monday morning.

"I'd like to thank KWheele for being a sounding board, and thank Rocketcan for pulling the trigger on our guys while our outdated Draft machinery was in the repair shop. I'm very excited about the players we had a chance to draft this weekend. Most will probably have a starting assignment this year, such is our player personnel strategy, and I think that will give them all some much needed experience going forward. We went with high-production guys in the first few rounds, with a couple of A+ bodies in the later rounds. We look to be pretty active in UDFA signings this week as well."

Round 1, pick 32

RB Stacy Moton, Illinois

2,063 yards rushing, 12 TDs

1,101 yards receiving, 9 TDs, 80 yd long catch

Overall: B+

Potential: B

Thrilled when Moton was available at #32, as he was a top 5 player on our board. His incredible 4.30 40 yd time, excellent strength numbers, and top-of-the-class INSIDE running rating pushed him near the top of our board, and we think he'll pair nicely with vet Ken Williams in a thunder-and-lightning tandem. Hell, he might even be able to play Corner for us in a pinch.

Round 2, pick 1

DT Duane DePaula, Cincinnati

47 solo tkls, 30 TFLs, 6 sacks

Overall: B

Potential: A

DePaula.jpeg.6b5f6ea001bfd887cdf3d8991fd9ece0.jpeg

Hugely productive in college, DePaula brings a fantastic balance to the transition spot at the point of attack. Able to rush the passer and stay home to tackle ball carriers, we think that DePaula--who wasn't invited to the Combine, oddly--can be the best DT in this class, bar none.

Round 3, pick 32

WR Quentin Pineda, TAMU

1,549 yds receiving, 22 YPC, 8 TDs

Overall: B-

Potential: C+

Another extremely productive wideout in college, we loved Pineda's hands (2nd best Combine numbers for catching drill), and feel that his 22 YPC average in college shows that he can also be a threat deep. Truly a high-floor player with perhaps limited ceiling, Quentin will come in as our WR2 and eventually settle into a WR3/slot role in the future.

Round 4, pick 1

OT Teo Lindsey, UCF

Overall: B-

Potential: B-

Lindsey had a very solid 7.37 pass rush grade at the Combine, and helped pave the way for 1k rusher at UCF. His run blocking will take some time to develop, but his strength numbers indicate that he's got the tools to be an excellent all-around tackle. We were overall encouraged by his skill set and see him as a viable RT for some time.

Round 5, pick 32

OLB Mike Betances, SMU

27 solo tkls, 11 TFLs, 3 sacks

Overall: C-

Potential: B

Betances.thumb.jpeg.008af15ca1ab5947007d7b137355b912.jpeg

Betances wasn't hugely productive in college, but he profiles nicely as an EDGE rusher with his 4.37 40 yd speed, and overall Combine performance. Oddly, he didn't do the Pass Rush drill at the Combine, but scored solidly on the run defense and LB coverage drills. Bottom line: a need pick with a versatile skill set that will likely start from day 1.

Round 6, pick 1

WR Johnny Brewer, TEX

1,574 yds receiving, 21 YPC, 13 TDs

Overall: C+

Potential: C+

brewer2.thumb.jpeg.248c48f752241cf0ee33255d6b06fc66.jpeg

We love his college production, and his Combine numbers, especially the Catching at Route Running Drills. Just like Pineda in the 4th, we think this is a Ready To Play wideout with enough hip wiggle to play in the slow, potentially. Again, high-floor, if potentially lower ceiling.

Round 7, pick 32

DT Ereck Monroe, UAB

53 solo tkls, 24 TFLs, 2 sacks

Overall: C+

Potential: C+

E-Wreck Monroe is a high-motor, huge bodied pivot at 6'3" 311 lbs. His 24 college TFLs shows that he gets into the backfield to blow up the play before it begins. But he's not just a space-eater: 53 solo tackles means he tossed blockers like laundry. Incredibly excited he lasted until the 7th.

Round 8, pick 1

OT Dee Chapman, Syracuse

Overall: D

Potential: A

CHapman.thumb.jpeg.58216df02bfc050a5e69d65c458fc57e.jpeg

Chapman is a development pick, perfect for the 8th round. He brings a body type that can play Tackle or Guard, and he's a heady player with good technique. He'll need some OT tutoring from vet Eric Terrell, but he's got a potentially bright future. He'll get enough playing time to help hit that potential.

E-wreck Monroe is an elite nickname. Interesting, feels like the Broncos went heavier on higher floor guys in lieu of higher ceilings. Can't wait to see how that shapes up against teams that did otherwise down the road.
