Jags Coach Comments on Reactions and Concerns Regarding Howard

 

Coach Weeze Speak to the Media following the Draft.

 

With the NFL Draft officially coming to a close Sunday evening, Coach Weeze, Headcoach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, met with the media to speak about the incoming draft class, but before the Q&A could get underway, Coach Weeze announced he would like to make a formal statement regarding second round pick Matt Howard, QB out of FSU.

 

"I am aware, as well as ownership and the rest of the front office, of the recent rumors and issues regarding Matt Howard that surfaced. First, we want to assure our fans that we thoroughly did a deep dive on all of our draft picks. If we were unsure of the character of anybody, coach, player...local ticket sales rep, they would not be apart of this organization. We talked with Matt before and after selecting him and made clear our expectations for him. He knows the standards set before him by our organization as well as the NFL. So as for the rumors and supposed antics that might have happen during the pre-draft process, we won't comment on. As for his comments toward Dean Hammonds...Honestly, he can say whatever he wants to say as long as he shows up to camp with that same energy and puts in the work to back that attitude up. We discussed that during the process, you can have all the swagger you want...just be ready to back that [explicit] up. We are still excited for him, we thinking working for Connolly is going to be a positive influence and of course we can't wait to get our hands on him and see what he can really do."
