Back to it! Sorry for the long hiatus, there was a lot of NFL excitement, but it's still worthwhile to look back at the CFB recruiting world

Below is a breakdown position-by-position of (from L-R) their current roster, what they did on the trail, and the grade I gave them in recruiting that position.

PositionCurrent position gradeCurrent statusRecruiting statusCrooting Grade
CC+Have a B overall 3 star as a rising junior, but only a 2 star behind himPicked up a B potential 3 star which should work out to an above average player agter a bit of time in the programC+
CBB-Nabbed a 4 star B overall in their last cycle, but surrounding him are all C overallsGot a very good pair of B overall 4 stars: even better is matching the man coverage scheme and adding in a ballhawk. Great signees hereB+
DEC-At this moment, they only have C overalls, and nobody better than a C potential 3 star. Not bright sign for the futureAdded another pair of 4s at this position, C overalls with ok potential. Still a massive upgrade and frnakly these guys should be playing a lot from day 1B+
DTCThey have a good rising senior, but not a lot below him aside from a few project guys who have yet to pan outAdded another project guy: A overall 2 star. I don't think he's likely to see the field until senior year if thatC-
FBCVery average, nobody on the roster right now stands out in any wayDidn't sign anyoneC-
FSC-Nothing impressive here either, a rising junior could be serviceable for these next 2 yearsSigned another 2 star project, but with only B- potential here. Not impressedD+
ILBCA mediocre 3 as a freshman and an A potential 2 star sophomore could be ok, but not special imoSigned a pair of 3 stars: C+ and B+ potential. Definitely an upgrade over the current roomC+
KC1 kicker on roster: a rising senior who could be pretty okSigned an average 3 star to potentially take over next seasonC
OGCGot an A- potential 3 star last cycle which was good, and a few average 2 stars so a reasonable outlookAdded a B overall 4 star and B+ potential 3 star which both bump up the position room significantlyB-
OLBCGot an A potential 3 star last cycle as a future building blockSigned a B potential 3 star to pair with him. Keeps this room okC
OTB+Really good room here. Rising junior A potential 4 star is one star, and last cycle signed a B- potential B overall 4 star to go with himWith the big stars the last 2 cycle, SDSU spent this year signing a trio of 3 stars: C+, B, A- potential to try and grow on the bench for their junior/senior yearsC+
PCMeh, an extremely average 3 star is the only serviceable option on the rosterDidn't sign anyoneC-
QBB-Great returning starter in Hung-Chih Anderson, but behind him i don't see a lot of future starters, no B's on the roster currentlySigned a top-200 QB, 4 star jeff Jones from Warner Robins, GA who almost certainly represents their future starter, along with an A potential 3 star local kid from California to compete with himB-
RBB-A good 4 star sophomore this year surrounded by a fair number of 3 star depth guysAdded another pair of 3 stars with B+ potential who could turn into a nice power/speed combo down the lineC+
SSBSigned a good 4 star last cycleAdded an above-average 3 star who will likely be depthC
TEB-Another good 4 star sophomore here as a vertical threatAdded a second 4 star vertical threat to grow and take over that roleB-
WRB-A 3 star A potential B overall sophomore is their best underclassmen, along with freshman B overall 4 star burner.Added 3 players: a 4 star C overall, and two 3 stars: A and B+ potential who could turn into very productive playersB

This was a 10th rated class so it will likely pan out very well, but when looking, it is in the vein of highly competant rather than "wow". The CB and DE classes are home runs for sure, and they didn't sign very many duds. Their current roster made the playoffs, so it's not like it's easy to get a big upgrade, but a signing class with a log of 3 star B+ potential level players is geared for a big performance 2-3 years from now rather than immediately.

Below is a breakdown position-by-position of (from L-R) their current roster, what they did on the trail, and the grade I gave them in recruiting that position.

PositionCurrent position gradeCurrent statusRecruiting statusCrooting Grade
CD+The only underclassmen are a pair of eh 2 starsSigned a 3 star B- potential who will probably start after Brett graduates next yearC
CBB-A very good 4 star B- potential sophomore is the best player in this room, and they have a competent freshman as well.Signed a good 4 star B overall, along with a B- potential 3 star, so this room looks like a good class. One negative though is that the 4 star is Man Coverage while the rest of the roster are zone guysC+
DEC+Got an average 4 star last cycle and an A+ 2 star to develop, this room is ok as it standsSigned a 3 star B- player who will likely be a depth piece and eventual role playerC
DTCOnly 2 underclassmen on roster: a B+ 3 star freshman and mediocre 2 star sophomoreAdded another B- 3 star to form a solid group thereC
FBD+A pair of 2 stars on roster are allAdded another very average 2 starD
FSDOof, 3 players on the roster ALL 2 star C overallsAnother 2 star C overall? I think they could have gotten somebody else betterD
ILBC3 stars each of the last 2 classes make up an ok coreSigned an average 3 star who should fit in with the roomC
KC+A trio of 3 stars is a better room than most schools haveAdded a 4th kicker who fits right inC
OGCPretty good 3 star Sophomore, and ok 3 star freshmanAdded a 4 star B overall signee and a 2 star B potentialB
OLBB-Got a great high level 4 star last year, but not much beyond thatThis cycle went for a trio of 3 stars with B potential who make for a pretty good futureB-
OTB4 stars each of the last 3 cycles make this one of the best rooms on the teamBroke the cycle by signing only a 3 star C potential and 2 star A potential. A little bit of a downgradeC
PDA rough 2 star is the only guy on the roster right nowDidn't sign anyD-
QBCBest bet currently looks like last years A potential signee: Field general Odell NelsonSigned an average 3 star guy who will probably be depth.C
RBCSigned a 3 star A potential guy last yearAdded another 3 star this cycle: a B+ potential speed guy, along with a B+ 2 starC
SSCAbove average 3 star guys the last 2 cycles hereWhew, 5 star Roko Souza is the gem of this class, a top-5 overall guy in the country will be an instant impact starter. Very, very good signeeA+
TECanother average position group with a lot of Cs and 3sSigned a 3 star receiving option with B potentialC+
WRC-They had a good junior group, but their last 2 classes haven't panned out so far4 guys in this class is a lot. A 4 star at the top of the list, along with a B, B, C potential 3 stars. The WR class should be extremely set for the futureB-

This is a 20th ranked class, but I am not impressed with it that much. It seems like just about every position group mirrored the current talent on roster, so the bad current groups didn't get a necessary upgrade while the good groups got players who might not see the field much even though they're also good. Roko Souza was a big win, and they got a couple other good players, but on the whole the roster stayed about the same talent level

Below is a breakdown position-by-position of (from L-R) their current roster, what they did on the trail, and the grade I gave them in recruiting that position.

PositionCurrent position gradeCurrent statusRecruiting statusCrooting Grade
CC+A pretty good 3 star sophomore on the rosterDidn't sign anyD+
CBCSome average guys here, with a solid sophomore as the best future starterSigned a pair of average 3 stars to be solid depth.C
DEC+Lots of above average 3 stars here along with a sophomore 4 starSigned one of their two top-5 recruits here: Speed rusher Jarvis who's a 5 star B overall and B- potential. Very very good player hereA+
DTCJust a pair of average 3 star guys the last 2 cyclesSigned three 3 star guys with C/C+ potentials hereC
FBD+Three 2 stars here who aren't so goodAdded a 3 star which on paper is an upgrade, but the D+ potential isn't so hotC-
FSC-A 3 star C guy last cycle is their future right now which is... ok?And their other star signee: Brad Crow, ball hawk from Modesto who is a B overall, C potentialA+
ILBC+A good 4 star last year and a few other high potential sleepers around himSigned an average 3 star who will be depthC-
KD+A pair of 2 stars on roster currentlyDidn't sign anyD+
OGD+Nothing above a C out of the underclassmenAdded another C potential 3 starC-
OLBCAn average 4 star freshman is the only good player coming up for the BruinsSigned a pair of 4 stars which is great, solidifies this room as good in the future. Also a 3 star depth pieceB
OTCA lot of 3 star C potentialsGrabbed another pair of that style to keep some good depthC
PD+One guy: a C potential 2 starSigned a 3 star C+ so that's a good upgradeC+
QBB+Hiram Maronde is the guy. 5 star sophomore scrambler B- potentialSigned 2 guys, a 3 star C from Florida and a 4 star scrambler D+ guy out of Maryland. Hopefully one pans out after Hiram graduatesB-
RBBTheir other sophomore skill guy: RB Fernando Parker is a 4 star B overallAdded 2 4-stars and two 3-stars, all with middling potentialsB
SSCA pair of 3 star C guys the last two cyclesDidn't sign anyC-
TEA+Last cycle got a 5 star A- potential, one of the best freshmen in the nation, vertical threat Taylor AllenSigned a C+ potential 3 star guyC
WRB-Got a B+ 4 star last cycle and a bunch of B overall 3 starsSigned a 4 star B- potential and a C+ potential 3 star guyB-

I think this is one class that is much better than their rating suggests. I think my scoring is a little down on low potential guys. I think they have A LOT of impact players, even if they don't have any real high potentials in this class. I think they've done a good job even outside of the two phenomenal 5 stars who are high-impact players
