[2022] Generated pool team rankings - Kickers and Punters

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, this is the first of hopefully... like a dozen or so pieces of media attempting to make sense of who were the biggest winners and losers from the NFL's pool selection this past few weeks.

Methodology

Each position is split into three categories:

  • Num.
    • Number of players in the position

    [*]Avg. OVR

    • The average OVR rating for all players in the position

    [*]Avg. Starter(s) OVR

    • The average OVR rating for the projected starters in the position

To determine who to designate as starters, I went with the top one, two, or three players in that position.

  • Top one
    • QB, RB, FB, TE, C, FS, SS, K, P

    [*]Top two

    • OT, OG, DE, DT, OLB, ILB, CB

    [*]Top three

    • WR

Later on, we will also see the top teams by average OVR for an entire and starting offense, defense, and special teams as well as the entire team and entire starting team. The starting teams will not be just 11 players as I am going to be relatively formation agnostic. This means the defense will be based on having four players on the line AND four players in your midfield at the same time, if that makes sense.

Kickers and Punters

We begin our series with kickers and punters!

Sorting by highest Avg. Starter(s) OVR, we can see that there's not a whole lot that separates any one team from the rest of the pack... except Cleveland who picked up a Veteran Starter kicker in John Raigoza. With 86 Kick Accuracy and 68 Kick Power, John is sure to make sure Cleveland nails a very high percentage of kicks this year. After Raigoza, there is nobody else until the 70s where we see 10 players between 70 and 77 kick accuracy. However, there are six players with higher kick power, ranging from 72 to 74.

The most interesting conclusion from this is, that we're sure to see a lot of kickers and punters drafted in the next few drafts and a tons of free agency action in this space. I daresay that kickers and punters will be one of the most hot commodities in the first few seasons of our young league!

The other interesting thing is that Carolina has by far the most special teams players so far with two punters and two kickers each! The only other team with multiple of either position is Las Vegas with two kickers.

Next time, we will start to look at some defensive players.

How can he not be? The player kick is so powerful it generates more than half the electric power required in the entire Palouse region. NFL teams would kill for that kind of energy.
