Best news about this for KU is despite a disappointing season with no bowl, we were a young team that doesn't lose much.

Offense: (returning 2022 players italicized)

QB Ian Morgan SR (11 2021 starts) QB Jeff Maeda JR (1 2021 start)

RB Bene' Humber JR

FB Marcell Maysonett SO

WR Junior Ogbah SR (29-506-5)

WR Adam Williams JR

WR Tomas Nelson JR

TE Alex Atkins SO

LT Gary Albers SR

LG Jose Moustakas SO

C Morgan Doyle SR

RG Danny Syndergaard SR

RT Rashad Shaw JR

So offensively, we're replacing our QB who was mediocre, 3 starting linemen, and a solid WR who could stretch the field. Ogbah, Albers, and Syndergaard should be drafted, Morgan could maaaaaybe be a camp arm, and Doyle should find a real career.

So to see Bene' bb make 1st team is really exciting because he's not even supposed to be the focal point of the offense for 2022. We're injecting a wealth of redshirts into our offense - (FR) 4-star QB Tyler Summers is the presumed heir to Morgan at QB, (SO) 4-star RB Cody Casspi was supposed to take over for Humber but now there might be a camp battle/nice options to spell each other, (SR) 3-star WR Trenton Adam should be the most refined guy we have in the WR room, (FR) 3-star WR Tanner Bradley should push for the WR3 role from Tomas Nelson, (FR) 3-star OT Austin Smith has the potential to be a 4-year starter on the blind side, and (JR) 3-star C Pete Blythe coming in at center and could have started over Blythe this year if I'd thought we had potential to make a run.

Defense: (returning 2022 players italicized)

LE Eli Reyes FR (4.0 sacks, 5 TFL)

NT Dante Gates SO (3.0 sacks, 5 TFL)

DT Daniel Dekker SR (4.0 sacks, 8 TFL)

RE Marvin Machado SR (4.0 sacks, 8 TFL)

LOLB Aaron Freeman SO (23 tackles, 1 INT)

MLB Ezekiel Sands JR (54 tackles, 7 TFL, 2 INT)

ROLB Nelson Velasquez SR (58 tackles, 10 TFL)

CB Chasen Joseph SR (2 INT)

CB Chaz Tuivailala FR (7 INT)

CB Tim Keller SO (existed)

FS Shawn Johnson SR (65 tackles, 3 INT)

SS Lashard Jones JR (49 tackles)

Defensively losing half of our DL is going to hurt, but the other half showing so much potential while so young has me hype. We have 4 different options to plug in at RE, including guys who will be a 4-star SR, 4-star JR, 3-star (JR), and 3-star (FR). Tuivailala has potential to set long-standing records given he was a true freshman starter earning All-Conference honors, very excited to see what he accomplishes and maybe he'll dip after year 3. Losing a 1st-Team LB and 2nd-Team DB will be hard to overcome, but we're bringing back a (FR) 3-star CB and (FR) 3-star OLB.

Specialists: (returning 2022 players italicized)

K George Jones FR (14/29 FG)

P Randy Bates SR (52 inside 20 on 93 punts)

KR Chasen Joseph SR (337 KR Yards)

PR Aaron Diaz SO (12.66 PR Avg)

Special Teams might be getting entirely shaken up for the Jayhawks, with George Jones struggling as the year went on. Aaron Diaz showed he has athleticism to potentially compete for the QB job after tallying a fair PR avg - Oklahoma State and Baylor got guys to get 13.3+ and 13.0+ averages, so Diaz wasn't too far off despite not being a favorite for the position. Time will tell what happens at any of these 4 spots - there's no in-house favorite to punt, KU reeled in a top 5 of the class kicker in recruiting, and with added talent at RB, WR, and DB from both the redshirt and recruiting pools, its anyones game at KR and PR.
