Best performance of the week: Central Michigan def. Western Michigan 34-33

Western Michigan needed to win this game to make it to the MAC Championship and after going down 14-3 in the first quarter, Central Michigan was able to come back and prevent their rivals from doing just that. Their offense used a balanced attack with 245 yards through the air and 236 on the ground. CMU QB Brandon Alexander had one of his better games of the season going 17-23 for 245 yards and 2 TDs but RB Tanner Lake was the true MVP toting the rock 40 times for 235 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble but also 8 receptions for 138 yards and 2 TDs in easily his best game of the season. Western Michigan shouldn't hang their heads though as they had 575 yards of total offense against a very good defense. WMU kicker will want the game back as he missed the XP that would have tied the game up with :08 left in the game.

Worst performance of the week: Ohio def. Miami (OH) 52-3

With the last chance for Miami (OH) to qualify for a bowl game this year, the Redhawks laid down and let Ohio run all over them. Not only did Miami allow Ohio QB Yusei Asencio to throw for a MAC record of 680 yards and 7 TDs, the Redhawks could also only muster 73 yards of total offense. Miami QB Joely Dykstra had a rough night, going 7-19 for 16 yards and 1 Int and 11 carries for -9 yards.

Offensive Player of the Week: QB Yusei Asencio, Ohio, 42-58 680 yards 7 TDs vs Miami (OH)

Defensive Player of the Week: DT PJ Hale, Toledo, 10 Tkls 4 TFLs vs Bowling Green

Special Teams Player of the Week: K Rudy Howell, Bowling Green, 5-5 FGs 1-1 XP vs Toledo

The perfect storm happened this year for Ball State to make it to the conference championship game at 5-7. Much has already been said about their nonconference schedule and how it was one of, if not the most difficult in the nation. But they beat Central Michigan, who beat Western Michigan, who beat Ball State. It came down to the divisional records as a tiebreaker and both WMU and CMU had unexpected losses in the division (to Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan respectively) and Ball State did not. They'll face Ohio as underdogs but they've shown they can beat any MAC team so don't count them out entirely.

Bowling Green5-36-6
Kent State3-55-7

Miami (OH)2-65-7

Because of Toledo's stunning 31-24 win over Akron in week 12, Ohio will be representing the East in the MAC championship game despite Akron beating Ohio earlier in the season. The Bobcats will surely be the favorite going up against Ball State with a nearly unstoppable pass offense led by Yusei Asencio. Akron should be proud of their season, surpassing all expectations of them this year.

2021 MAC Championship:

Ohio (10-2, 7-1) vs Ball State (5-7, 5-3)
