Week 8 Review

Week 8 Score: Kansas 24 Texas Tech 6

Pre-game Prediction: Kansas 28 Texas Tech 10

POTG: Kansas RB Bene’ Humber - 22 carries for 134 yards, 1 TD, 5 receptions for 34 yards

What happened: Both teams struggled mightily in the first half as Kansas took a slim 7-3 lead into the locker room. In the end, the Red Raiders continued their offensive ineptitude managing only 6 points as Kansas pulled away in the second half en route to a 24-6 victory.

Bene’ Humber was efficient in the run game carrying the ball 22 times for 134 yards and one score while hauling in 5 passes for 34 yards. Kansas quarterback Ian Morgan played well throwing for 258 yards and two scores, but was also sacked five times.

For Texas Tech, they actually managed to surpass 300 yards of total offense for a change with quarterback Jordan Madero throwing for 222 yards. Running back Fernando Gonzalez padded 95 yards on the ground, but ultimately, this team still can’t find the endzone with any type of regularity. Until they’re able to consistently put points on the board, don’t expect them to win any games. .

Week 8 Preview:

Match-up: Iowa State (2-6) at Texas Tech (0-7)

For the first time since their early season match-up against UNLV, the Red Raiders have to be feeling as if they may be able to come away with a victory as they welcome Iowa State to Lubbock.

The Cyclones enter the game with a 2-6 record and have lost their past two games, most recently a 24-14 loss to Baylor. Iowa State features dual threat quarterback Russell Latimer and a talented running back in Jaylen Lengel who amassed 127 yards against Baylor.

What to watch for (TTU): Can the Texas Tech offense perform against equal competition? There’s no sugar coating it. The Red Raider offense is bad with a capital B. That said, Texas Tech has played some tough competition thus far with numerous opponents being ranked in the Top 25. This week will provide them an opportunity to take on an opponent in a similar state. If Texas Tech is unable to be competitive, then there’s little hope for the remainder of the season.

What to watch for (Iowa State): Can the Cyclone offense find success on the ground? Iowa State has struggled to pass the ball and is more focused on establishing the ground game. Points have been hard to come by when the run game isn’t clicking. And for all of the faults of the Red Raider offense, their defense has held strong in most games keeping the score respectable in most games. Iowa State will need both of their rushing threats in quarterback Russell Latimer and running back Jaylen Lengel to be effective running the ball.

What will happen: It’s become near impossible to expect that Texas Tech can win a game. Until they prove otherwise, we can’t pick them to win. Expect the Cyclone ground game to do enough to come away with a victory in a tight contest.

Prediction: Iowa State 27 Texas Tech 23
