[2021] Engine Updates

Moving from SimBBA to SimNBA, I have added some features and tweaked the simulation engine to (hopefully) provide for better results and a better experience.

Gameplan Updates

SimBBA veterans will recognize that this gameplan sheet is different from the one they used before. The two new features are defensive priority and offensive %, along with SimNBA features of choosing a formation and having players play in a position (or multiple positions).

Defensive Priority: Choose between the three shot varieties (2-Point Paint, 2-Point Jumpers, 3-Pointers) to primarily defend against. The opponent will be less likely to make these shots.

Offensive %: Choose how you want your shots to be split between your players. Any player that is playing minutes must have a minimum of 5%. The maximum for any player is 35%. Note that this will not result in the exact percent of shot attempts for each player, as the amount of minutes they play is also a factor.

Formation: Choose your team formation. This decides which positions will be on the floor. When giving minutes to players, you must also assign the position they are playing. Players may move up or down one position on the following scale: PG-SG-SF-PF-C. Each position in your formation must add up to 48 total minutes split among the players.

Engine Updates

The engine has been updated to fit the format of NBA. There are 4 quarters in each game. Pace can be between 90 and 110 (faster than college). Additionally, statistics are now weighted based on position. For example, guards contribute less skill to rebounding than centers. Don't expect your point guard to rack up 10 rebounds very often anymore! This also applies to assists and defense. Steals are now weighted towards guards and blocks are weighted towards centers.

That is the plan for defensive priority and offensive %. In regards to formations and positions, college positions will likely stay as G, F, C, but formations will be instituted with those in mind.
