Please read through these updates. Read all the sections to understand the to-do list.

GM TO-DO LIST

  • Update cap sheet with draftees and any trades
  • Post in the Draft Signings thread what players you are signing and what players you are not signing
  • Complete UDFA Bids
  • Waive or trade players to reach a max 15-player roster (minimum of 13 players) by the beginning of the season

Cap Sheets

I will be keeping the universal cap sheet updated. Each team should still keep their own cap sheet updated and check the universal one for discrepancies. If an error is found, alert me immediately and we will investigate it.

Please add any rookies you drafted to your cap sheets. I have updated the universal cap sheet with them already. Optional contract years are denoted by red numbers instead of black numbers. During each offseason, teams will decide if they want to accept the option and keep the player under the current contract or release them as a free agent and have the salary removed from their cap.

Rookies must be signed to a minimum of 2 year contracts, but have 3rd year and 4th year options included.

Second-round draft picks are signed to 2-year minimum contracts ($0.9 million both years).

Rookies

Teams may elect to not sign any player they have drafted by posting in the “Draft Signings” thread that they will not be signing that player. The drafted player will then become a Free Agent and be eligible to be bid on by any other team.

Teams must post in the Draft Signings thread which draftees they will be signing and which draftees they will not be signing (if there are any). Teams may place drafted players on their G-league roster but they must be signed to a rookie contract and their salary will count against the cap. Since they have an NBA contract, they will not be able to be signed by other teams off of the G-league roster.

Undrafted rookies will enter the UDFA Process. Each team will have a 10 point allotment to bid on UDFAs. Teams will offer a contract type spend a certain amount of points on a player. The roster spots a team may offer are:

  • NBA contract (player becomes part of your final 15-man roster)
  • 2-way contract
  • G-league contract

If multiple teams bid on a player, ties are broken by 1) the higher contract option (with NBA contracts being the best and G-league contracts being the worst) and 2) the amount of points bid on the player. For example, a 1 point bid offering an NBA contract would beat a 7 point bid offering a 2-way contract. A 3 point bid offering a G-league contract would beat a 1 point bid offering a G-League contract. Any UDFAs that are not bid on will become Free Agents. UDFAs that are offered NBA contracts are signed to 2-year minimum contracts ($0.9 million both years). UDFAs that are offered 2-way contracts or G-league contracts do not take up any cap space.

Waiving Players

Each NBA roster can hold a maximum of 15 players when the season starts. To open up roster spots, a team may waive players. Waive a player by posting in the Waived Players thread. A waived player will remain on the waiver wire for 48 hours. During this time, any other team may sign that player for the same remaining contract. If a player you have waived is signed off the waiver wire, you no longer keep that salary on your cap. If a player is not signed off the waiver wire, they are said to have cleared waivers and become a Free Agent where any other team may sign them to a new contract. In this case, the player enters the “Waived Players” section of your cap sheet and their salary remains on your cap.

Sending Players to the G-League

A team may also utilize their G-League roster to open up NBA roster spots. If a player with a current NBA contract is placed on the G-league roster, their salary still counts against the cap. Post in the Roster Movements thread to complete a roster movement.

G-League Player Protections

Players with active NBA contracts may not be signed by other teams off of your G-league roster. Players that have 2-way contracts may not be signed by other teams off of your G-League roster. Any other player may be signed off of your G-league roster. This would typically occur if you signed a Free Agent or a UDFA to your G-league roster.
