[2021] Bruce Dawson, Tulsa power through Lobo Defense for 27-10 Home Opener Win.

Week 1 Postgame: #19 Tulsa: 27 - New Mexico: 10

 

Bruce Dawson and Company started the 2021 campaign off right with a convincing 27-10 win over the Lobos of New Mexico. The Senior Running Back tallied 156 yards on 26 carries and 2 scores on the ground with 33 yards through the air on his way to Player of the Game honors. True to Dawson's home run hitting form, the lynchpin of the Hurricane offense had runs of 16, 29 and 62 yards with two of those resulting in touchdowns for the Tulsa offense. Senior Quarterback Bud Coleman went 19 of 31 for 206 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Victor Almonte led all Tulsa receivers with 97 yards while Chris Muno had 68 yards and the sole receiving TD.

 

On defense, the Golden Hurricane kept things in front of them and held the Lobo rushing attack to just 3.72 yards per carry, 0 touchdowns and a recovered fumble. Standout Corner Deonte Ladendorf led the Hurricane defense in tackles with fellow DB Scott Day backing him up with 7. Kareem Sparkman held true to his name and provided the pass rushing spark for the Hurricane defense recording 1 TFL and a Sack on the day.

 

Tulsa faces off at home against a tough San Diego State team this upcoming week in a showing of two of the better G5 squads this Saturday.
