[2021] Big Ten Week 1 Preview: Thursday

Recommended Posts

We are now one week into the college football season and the majority of Big Ten teams get their season underway this week. There is only one Thursday game this week as a full week of college football is on tap. Let's preview the lone Thursday game below.

Temple (0-0) @ Rutgers (0-0)

This is going to be a very intriguing matchup on Thursday as either one of these teams could come out with the win. Rutgers is extremely talented on the defensive side of the ball. They'll be led by defensive tackle Will Hill but corner Andrew Martin, outside linebacker Robert Toran, and strong safety Will Lawrence will all be solid contributors. They are a very stout defensive team and this opening game should prove that. Offensively, they will need to search for an identity. Running back Wenyen Davis is probably going to be the guy that they lean on to move the ball but quarterback Chance Sproles can make plays with both his arm and feet. If Sproles can get in a groove, freshman wide receiver Seby Bazardo is one of the best in the country and should be able to make Sproles life easy. Temple has yet to name a starting quarterback for the game but regardless of who it is, they will have a great target in junior tight end Don Scott. Seniors Matt Kelemete and Jake Miranda will make it tough on Rutgers as they lead the front seven for Temple. This is going to be a fun one to watch on Thursday night.

Prediction

Temple 7 @ Rutgers 16
