[2021] Big Ten Week 0 Standings

Recommended Posts

With Week 0 now in the book, we look at our updated team rankings in the Big Ten. There is some shakeup in the standings as a few of the teams were in action but there won't be any real shift until we get a few weeks into the season.

A Look at the Big Ten as a Whole

This past weekend their were three Big Ten teams compete; Michigan, Michigan State, and Nebraska. Michigan came away with a huge win over one of the top teams in the country, #5 Notre Dame, while Michigan State and Nebraska struggled a little bit in close games. Overall, the Big Ten was 2-1 this weekend with one huge win and a disappointing loss by Nebraska. Right now, we are still feeling good about the overall talent in the Big Ten and I think we will see a really solid Week 1 performance from this group.

Week 0 Results

Kansas State 15 vs. Nebraska 7

Michigan 27 @ Notre Dame 10

Michigan State 17 @ Army 10

Week 0 Rankings

1. Wisconsin 0-0 (Last Week #2) @Jamzz

Wisconsin did not play this past weekend but still moved up by virtue of Michigan State moving down. They start their season on the road this week at Texas Tech.

2. Ohio State 0-0 (Last Week #3) @thatfunk

Ohio State did not play this past weekend but still moved up by virtue of Michigan State moving down. They start their season at home against Bowling Green.

3. Michigan State 1-0 (Last Week #1)

Michigan State ended up winning their game this past weekend on the road at Army, but it was not pretty. They only threw for 80 yards and had a measly 110 yards on the ground. They allowed 261 yards on the ground, however, and for one of the top teams in the country....that is not good. They have this weekend off to really hone in to what they want their identity to be.

4. Illinois (Last Week #4)

Illinois did not play this past weekend and stayed stagnant in the rankings. They start their season on the road this week at Ole Miss.

5. Maryland (Last Week #5) @Kremit

Maryland did not play this past weekend and stayed stagnant in the rankings. They will have this weekend off again before they start their season off in Week 2.

6. Michigan (Last Week #14) @subsequent

Michigan flies up the standings as they knocked off high powered Notre Dame at home. They were great through the air as quarterback Jonnu Newton threw for 300 yards and averaged just under 4.5 yards a carry. Defensively, they were stout only allowing Notre Dame 106 passing yards and picking Notre Dame off twice. Quick shoutout to punter Enes Pazos who averaged 59 yards a punt on 6 punts. Michigan is back on the road this week as they travel to Boise State.

7. Purdue (Last Week #7) @MasonAsher

Purdue did not play this past weekend and stayed stagnant in the rankings. They start their season out this week at home against Oregon.

8. Minnesota (Last Week #8) @Minnow

Minnesota did not play this past weekend and stayed stagnant in the rankings. They will have this weekend off again before they start their season off in Week 2.

9. Rutgers (Last Week #9)

Rutgers did not play this past weekend and stayed stagnant in the rankings. They start their season out this week at home against Temple.

10. Nebraska (Last Week #6) @alexfall862

It was an ugly performance on the field this past weekend for Nebraska as they were the only Big Ten team to lose a game. They fell to Kansas State in what was a defensive battle. Nebraska could not get a running game going and they could not stop the pass as Kansas State's Brandon Smith had 317 yards through the air. Nebraska didn't let Kansas State get into the end zone and still lost...not a good sign. They are off this week before picking back up in Week 2

11. Iowa (Last Week #10)

Iowa did not play this past weekend and moved down with Michigan's big win. They start their season out this week at home against Akron.

12. Northwestern (Last Week #11)

Northwestern did not play this past weekend and moved down with Michigan's big win. They start their season out this week as they visit Northern Illinois.

13. Penn State (Last Week #12) @Rocketcan

Penn State did not play this past weekend and moved down with Michigan's big win. They start their season out this week at a neutral site against Washington.

14. Indiana (Last Week #13)

Indiana did not play this past weekend and moved down with Michigan's big win. They start their season out this week at home against Kent State.

I definitely like Rutgers' chances in that contest.
