  1. Wouldn’t mind seeing a review of my class
  2. Hey all, now that the season is all wrapped up I wanted to put together my own all-conference teams. I wouldn't count these as official, as they are just my own opinion on where these players land within the MAC conference. I included the player's year so you'll have an idea who may be returning next season! 1st Team QB - Yusei Asencio, senior - Ohio - 7,044 pass yards, 55 TDs, 7 Ints RB - Anthony Fisher, senior - Ball State - 3. Hello everyone, with the season wrapping up I wanted to do a postseason Power Ranking since I did one before the season started. Congrats to conference champions Ohio on an incredible season, including making it to the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff. :toledo: 12. Toledo (2-10); Preseason: 12 Looking at the rosters, it was pretty evident to me that Toledo was lagging behind the rest of the conference when it came to talent. That proved to be the case as the season played out. They managed 2 really good wins though against UCLA (12-3) and Akron (31-24) to the surprise of everyone. They struggled to find an offense as they were last in the MAC in both pass offense and total offense by a significant amount. They had some bright spots on the defensive side of the ball in DT PJ Hale, who was tied for 1st in the conference in TFLs (24), freshman ILB JT Jungmann, who led the team in tackles, and CBs Lou Hechavarria and Pete Ciuffo, who each had 5 interceptions on the season. Best Win: Akron 31-24; Worst Loss: Charlotte 13-17 MVP: DT PJ Hale; 49 tackles, 24 TFLs, 3 sacks, 1 FR - 11. Buffalo (4-8); Preseason: 6 I thought Buffalo's defense would put them in a better place to win more games than they did, but it was probably too soon for the Bulls' young defense. Considering Buffalo had above average performances from QB Adam Boyle (2806 passing yards) and RB Devonte' Turner (1289 rushing yards), I think they'll be kicking themselves that they didn't win more games. Best Win: Ball State 30-6; Worst Loss: Miami (OH) 3-27 MVP: RB Devonte' Turner; 1289 yards, 8 TDs, 472 rec yards, 3 rec TDs - :miamiu: 10. Miami (OH) (5-7); Preseason: 8 As QB Joely Dykstra went, so went the RedHawks. Sure he had some good performances, like 182 yards on the ground against Eastern Michigan, and rushing for another 168 against Buffalo (both games their only conference wins). He also completed only 48% of his passes and threw 3 TDs to 15 interceptions. He finished as the team's leading rusher and I'm going to pick him as the team MVP because they have no better choice, but one has to wonder if the team would have been better off with someone else under center. Best Win: Ole Miss 20-7; Worst Loss: Bowling Green 13-47 MVP: QB Joely Dykstra; 1422 pass yards, 3 TDs, 15 INTs, 766 rush yards, 7 rush TDs - :northerillinois: 9. Northern Illinois (5-7); Preseason: 11 The story of Northern Illinois' season is that of a mismanaged offense. 2nd to last in total offense, they averaged only 2.77 yards per carry while attempting the 2nd most rushes per game. Meanwhile, QB Darius Paredes was completing 74% of his passes and he only threw 2 picks on the season. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a new offensive coordinator in DeKalb next year. Don't forget this is the team who gave Big Ten champs and College Football Playoff semifinalists Wisconsin their only regular season loss this year! Best Win: Wisconsin 10-7; Worst Loss: Eastern Michigan 3-14 MVP: DE Michael Dyson; 52 tackles, 18 TFLs, 2 sacks, 1 FF - :easternmichigan: 8. Eastern Michigan (5-7); Preseason: 10 There's something to be said for Eastern Michigan's commitment to the run this year. They pounded the rock 361 times for 846 yards. That's 2.34 yards per carry. Their workhorse back, Mike Merrifield, had 775 yards on 319 carries and he fumbled 8(!) times. They had a serviceable QB in Ryan Swanson, who threw for 2135 yards, 8 TDs and 12 INTs, but you put all that together and you get a pretty forgettable 5-7 season. Best Win: Central Michigan 13-3; Worst Loss: Miami (OH) 20-30 MVP: DT John Fusco; 58 tackles, 18 TFLs, 4 sacks, 3 FFs - :kentstate: 7. Kent State (5-7); Preseason: 3 Speaking of forgettable seasons: little is remembered of Kent State's play this year. They had an above average back in RB Jalen Johnson, who ran for 1105 yards, but did so at only 3.52 yards a carry. QB play from Tony Hembree was average at best and no one really stood out on the defensive side of the ball other than maybe CB Cam Reynolds, who had 4 picks and returned one for a TD. Best Win: Bowling Green 24-15; Worst Loss: Southern Miss 7-9 MVP: RB Jalen Johnson; 1105 yards, 8 rush TDs, 527 rec yards, 2 rec TDs - 6. Bowling Green (7-6); Preseason: 4 Bowling Green's season changed when they made a big switch at the QB position. Jurickson Elflein opened the season as the starting signal caller, but after a 1-3 start with disappointing offensive performances, Dexter Reed was brought in at QB and Elflein moved to RB. The Falcons finished the remainder of the season 6-3 and Elflein led the conference in rush yards and TDs. The defense did more than hold their own, leading the conference in total yards allowed, and leading the country in sacks (OLB Sandy Rankin had 9 and DT Chris LaDouceur had 7.5). Best Win: New Mexico 13-10; Worst Loss: Hawaii 34-42 MVP: RB Jurickson Elflein; 1935 yards, 18 TDs, 183 rec yards, 2 rec TDs - :westernmichigan: 5. Western Michigan (8-5); Preseason: 2 Despite having a pretty good year, Western Michigan may be asking themselves what could have been. Their conference losses, Buffalo, Northern Illinois, and, to a lesser extent, rival Central Michigan are head scratchers. Junior QB Theo Scribner had a really good season, despite their offensive line play (Scribner was sacked a conference high 36 times). RB Stephen Addae was an efficient runner, getting 5 yards a carry, and WR Marcus Ekstrom will be in discussion for 1st team all-conference honors. With Scribner able to return next season, the Broncos may be the odds on favorites to win the conference in 2022. Best Win: Akron 18-10; Worst Loss: Buffalo 22-24 MVP: QB Theo Scribner; 4563 yards, 26 TDs, 13 INTs - 4. Central Michigan (8-5); Preseason: 1 Central Michigan is in a similar situation as their rival Western Michigan. Their roster is stacked with talent, yet they lost to Eastern Michigan and if they could have beaten Ball State they would have represented the West in the MAC championship game. Throw in losses to 5-7 ECU and 4-8 Oklahoma and you have to wonder if they made best with what they had. Everything the Chippewas did on offense went through RB Tanner Lake. The senior was 3rd in the MAC in rush yards and led the team in all receiving categories. The defense was quite disruptive, leading the conference in Tackles For Loss and was tied for 1st in rush yards allowed. A win against Western Michigan and winning their bowl game against Arkansas State helped make this season look better in hindsight. Best Win: Western Michigan 34-33; Worst Loss: Eastern Michigan 3-13 MVP: RB Tanner Lake; 1841 yards, 12 TDs, 736 rec yards, 7 rec TDs - 3. Ball State (5-8); Preseason: 5 Much has been made of Ball State's schedule this year, particularly when they won the tiebreaker to represent their division in the MAC Championship Game. Their out-of-conference schedule consisted of Cal, Kansas, Purdue, and Old Dominion, probably the most difficult in the country. After starting 0-5, they were able to find what worked best for them and, *spoiler alert*, it was getting the ball to RB Anthony Fisher. The back was 2nd in the MAC in rush yards and led his team in all receiving categories. Sound familiar? Basically a slightly better Tanner Lake. On the other side of the ball they had Butkus Award winner Leon Chavez, who had 80 tackles and 24 TFLs. On top of that, freshman phenom Nate Walker IV led the conference with 6 interceptions. Best Win: Central Michigan 23-19; Worst Loss: Buffalo 6-30 MVP: RB Anthony Fisher; 1914 yards, 15 TDs, 732 rec yards, 10 rec TDs - 2. Akron (9-4); Preseason: 9 Akron did everything they needed to, beat all the teams that they should have beat, until week 12 when they lost a shocker to 2-win Toledo. Had they won that game they would have represented the East instead of Ohio and the sky was the limit. Alas, 'twas not meant to be. QB Josh Pennel is probably the most underrated player in the conference, being overshadowed by Davey O'Brien Award winner Yusei Asencio. Pennel did a great job of evenly distributing the ball, having 4 players with over 850 receiving yards, and dual threat RB Christian Adams had over 850 yards rushing and receiving, but only 4 total TDs on the year. Ultimately the loss to Toledo likely put a huge damper on Akron's season as they weren't able to pull off an upset win against Old Dominion in the Bahamas bowl, falling short 42-48. All that being said, they greatly overachieved this year and should be proud of the season. Best Win: Ohio 39-28; Worst Loss: Toledo 24-31 MVP: QB Josh Pennel; 4874 yards, 34 TDs, 12 INTs - :ohio: 1. Ohio (12-3); Preseason: 7 Yusei Asencio. That's all that really needs to be said. Asencio put up some numbers this year that, with Ohio playing 15 games, may never be beat. 7044 passing yards, 55 passing TDs. A lot of quarterbacks don't do that in their career. Asencio had plenty of weapons to get the ball to as well, having 3 wide receivers (Jerald Paulsen, Humberto Mauger, and Myles Pressly) over 1,000 receiving yards and 10 TDs. Paulsen is just a junior so it remains to be seen if he'll leave for the NFL after this season. Nationally, one of the more underrated teams on the season, their only losses were to Akron, San Diego State, and Tulsa. You knew that Ohio was looking to outscore their opponents, but that's not to say they didn't have impactful players on defense. ILB Tyler Ramsey led the team with 60 tackles and 18 TFLs and DE Shawn Dominguez was a menace in opponents' backfields, racking up 21 TFLs on the season. Best Win: Texas State 34-14; Worst Loss: Akron 28-39 MVP: QB Yusei Asencio; 7044 yards, 55 TDs, 7 INTs - I will also be doing my own all-conference teams and award winners, likely later this week.
  4. Results Week 13: Ohio def. Miami (OH) 52-3 Central Michigan def. Western Michigan 34-33 Ball St def. Northern Illinois 33-0 Eastern Michigan def. South Alabama 24-6 Bowling Green def. Toledo 22-0 Oregon St def. Kent St 31-7 Week 14: Akron def. Kent St 6-0 Ohio def. Kansas St 44-30 Best performance of the week: Central Michigan def. Western Michigan 34-33 Western Michigan needed to win this game to make it to the MAC Championship and after going down 14-3 in the first quarter, Central Michigan was able to come back and prevent their rivals from doing just that. Their offense used a balanced attack with 245 yards through the air and 236 on the ground. CMU QB Brandon Alexander had one of his better games of the season going 17-23 for 245 yards and 2 TDs but RB Tanner Lake was the true MVP toting the rock 40 times for 235 yards, 1 TD, 1 fumble but also 8 receptions for 138 yards and 2 TDs in easily his best game of the season. Western Michigan shouldn't hang their heads though as they had 575 yards of total offense against a very good defense. WMU kicker will want the game back as he missed the XP that would have tied the game up with :08 left in the game. Worst performance of the week: Ohio def. Miami (OH) 52-3 With the last chance for Miami (OH) to qualify for a bowl game this year, the Redhawks laid down and let Ohio run all over them. Not only did Miami allow Ohio QB Yusei Asencio to throw for a MAC record of 680 yards and 7 TDs, the Redhawks could also only muster 73 yards of total offense. Miami QB Joely Dykstra had a rough night, going 7-19 for 16 yards and 1 Int and 11 carries for -9 yards. Offensive Player of the Week: QB Yusei Asencio, Ohio, 42-58 680 yards 7 TDs vs Miami (OH) Defensive Player of the Week: DT PJ Hale, Toledo, 10 Tkls 4 TFLs vs Bowling Green Special Teams Player of the Week: K Rudy Howell, Bowling Green, 5-5 FGs 1-1 XP vs Toledo MAC Snapshot West Division TeamConferenceOverallBall State5-35-7Western Michigan5-37-5Central Michigan5-37-5Northern Illinois3-55-7Eastern Michigan3-55-7Toledo1-72-10 The perfect storm happened this year for Ball State to make it to the conference championship game at 5-7. Much has already been said about their nonconference schedule and how it was one of, if not the most difficult in the nation. But they beat Central Michigan, who beat Western Michigan, who beat Ball State. It came down to the divisional records as a tiebreaker and both WMU and CMU had unexpected losses in the division (to Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan respectively) and Ball State did not. They'll face Ohio as underdogs but they've shown they can beat any MAC team so don't count them out entirely. East Division TeamConferenceOverallOhio7-110-2Akron6-29-3Bowling Green5-36-6Kent State3-55-7Buffalo3-54-8Miami (OH)2-65-7 Because of Toledo's stunning 31-24 win over Akron in week 12, Ohio will be representing the East in the MAC championship game despite Akron beating Ohio earlier in the season. The Bobcats will surely be the favorite going up against Ball State with a nearly unstoppable pass offense led by Yusei Asencio. Akron should be proud of their season, surpassing all expectations of them this year. 2021 MAC Championship: Ohio (10-2, 7-1) vs Ball State (5-7, 5-3)

Will Miami (OH) beat Liberty? Entirely possible. Will they beat Ohio? No. Eliminated from Bowl contention :toledo: SchoolRecordRemaining OpponentsBuffalo4-7Northern IllinoisBall State3-7at Eastern Michigan, at Northern IllinoisToledo1-9Akron, at Bowling Green All of these teams are looking to next year as I could see Buffalo and Ball State beating any of their remaining opponents. Toledo 24-9 Akron def. Connecticut 24-17 San Diego State def. Ohio 31-20 Best performance of the week: Ball State def. Central Michigan 23-19 Ball State has done a good job of figuring out the best way to use RB Anthony Fisher, who didn't have a great game on the ground with just 82 yards and a fumble on 27 carries, but he had another 100 yard game receiving with 102 yards and 2 TDs on 8 catches. Ball State's defense was able to get 2 interceptions to make up for giving up more total yards than their offense had. The Cardinals' K Cody Escalona comes away the big man on campus going 3-3 on FGs in the 4 point win. Worst performance of the week: Northern Illinois def. Western Michigan 13-7 Western Michigan QB Theo Scribner didn't have a bad game from looking at his statistics, 25-39 226 yards 1 TD, but his 2 interceptions proved to be costly as the Broncos were held scoreless through the first 3 quarters. Add to that just 47 yards on 19 carries on the ground and Scribner being sacked 3 times and you see Northern Illinois' defense had Western Michigan's number this week. It's all still there for the taking for Central Michigan as both teams take on nonconference foes this coming week and then play each other in their last game of the season in week 13. Ball State's nonconference schedule has come back to bite them a bit and eliminated their bowl hopes with losses to 4 good teams in Cal, Kansas, Purdue and Old Dominion. Toledo will look to limit the damage this week in their game against Akron. Akron still holds the advantage after beating Ohio in their head-to-head matchup in week 5. The Zips will be a huge favorite in their matchup against Toledo coming up while Ohio has a tricky game against Bowling Green, who has outscored their last 2 opponents 78-23.
  8. Looks like Charlotte's game against Atlanta was left out of week 1

  10. Results Miami (OH) def. Buffalo 27-3 Ohio def. Kent State 40-27 Ball State def. Toledo 33-0 Akron def. Bowling Green 29-27 Central Michigan def. Northern Illinois 30-14 Bye: Western Michigan, Eastern Michigan Best performance of the week: Miami (OH) def. Buffalo 27-3 Miami improved to 4-4 on the season with a really solid performance over Buffalo. Redhawk QB Joely Dykstra was able to tear up the Bulls defense with 168 yards and a TD on 18 carries. He has shown the ability to do that against teams who aren't prepared to spy him. He wasn't the only one to do well on the ground with Jeff Needham carrying the ball 9 times for 97 yards. Overall, Miami was able to rush for 330 yards on just 37 carries in their best offensive performance of the season. Worst performance of the week: Ball State def. Toledo 33-0 Ball State only had 1 win coming into this game. QB Jay Larkin went 20-31 for 315 yards, 2 TDs and 2 Ints. His favorite target was RB Anthony Fisher, who has had a few really solid weeks in a row now. Fisher's night ended with 31 carries for 199 yards, 1 TD, 6 catches for 156 yards and 2 TDs, for an offensive player of the week honor. This performance was really offset by Toledo's 64 yards (!) of total offense. Toledo has gone back and forth between QBs Parry Medeiros and Eric Diekman to try and kickstart their offense, but the result is only 1 game over 100 yards passing. Meanwhile, they have never had someone rush for over 100 yards in a game. Next season can't come soon enough for Toledo as they look to take the redshirt off QB Jeremy McNitt. Offensive Player of the Week: RB Anthony Fisher, Ball State, 31 atts 199 yards 1 TD, 6 recs 156 yards 2 TDs vs Toledo Defensive Player of the Week: DE Austin Lee, Ball State, 8 Tkls 4 TFLs vs Toledo Special Teams Player of the Week: K Devin Strickland, Ohio, 4-4 FGs 4-4 XPs vs Kent State MAC Snapshot West Division TeamConferenceOverallWestern Michigan4-15-3Central Michigan3-24-4Ball State2-22-6Eastern Michigan2-33-5Northern Illinois0-42-6Toledo0-41-7 Western Michigan maintains their lead in the West with Central Michigan just a game behind them. WMU has Akron this week for the MAC game of the week and a potential preview of the Championship game. A loss there will make the WMU/CMU matchup at the end of the season the de facto division championship game. Ball State looks to be figuring out their offense and utilizing Anthony Fisher in the best way possible as they could be favored in 3 of their final 4 games of the season. Toledo will look to get their first conference win in the next couple weeks as they have some opportunities against Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan. Are we starting to see some cracks in their armor? The matchup against Western Michigan this week will be their last major hurdle to seeing their way into the Conference Championship game. Ohio won't give up that easy though as they maintain pace with the Zips and will be favored this week against Eastern Michigan. Bowling Green will look to bounce back as they take on a tricky Miami (OH) team and try to keep their bowl dream alive.

Buffalo 34-23 We know that Ohio is a good team (they're 4-1 with their only loss to 5-1 Akron), but Buffalo has been looking like a solid team in the East with no conference losses going into this game. And Buffalo has a very good defense. That didn't stop Yusei Asencio from going for 440 yards with 4 TDs. They also should be happy with a season high 101 yards on the ground. Worst performance of the week: UNLV def. Toledo 17-3 Toledo had 65 total yards of offense. 42 yards through the air and 23 on the ground. Was it against a good UNLV team? Yes. But 65 yards of offense in 4 quarters of football makes me think they might want to go back to the drawing board. Ball State had possibly the best game of the season with their 1-point loss, which would've helped a lot in getting them to a bowl game this year. The rest of their games are winnable. Toledo struggled again this week, as they continue to look to next season. Their game against Bowling Green in Week 9 continues to be a big matchup as they'll be looking to make up for an embarrassing loss to Hawaii. This division continues to impress on the season as every team still has dreams of a bowl game.
