  1. Last year, the Kansas Jayhawks made a major push into the upper midwest and Great Lakes in signing weather-hardened, culture fits to establish their foundation. This year, Kansas again heavily targeted the hard-working flyover states, but also made a significant push into the deep southeast of the US. While the Jayhawks didn't show much interest in home-state recruits like 4* OT Philip Hering (Kansas State) or 3* RB James Falkner (Florida State) outside of the early periods of recruting, they made another significant impact into Big Ten territory, landing recruits from Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and New Jersey. They also made a major investment into historically-ACC areas, with big gets in the Carolinas, Florida, Washington D.C., and Georgia. With much talk and murkiness about conference expansion, it appears coach @Bundy has the team prepared to go head-to-head with just about anybody on the gridiron and recruiting trail alike. Kansas still managed to snag a pair of commits from Texas to keep the Big 12 diehards somewhat satisfied, and then secured a late commitment from a Las Vegas-born recruit who followed the Mountain West growing up, and watched the Colorado State bowl game. We're missing a few recruits though in this brief summary. For that, we turn to something that spawned from the National Championship watch party. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIttfsK5MNE That's right. T-Pain might be able to take you to a mansion in Wiscansin, but coach @Bundy is bringing the local dairy-raised recruits down to Lawrence in a takeover marketing pitch, making them WisKansan. Tim Jarvis is actually an OT but I whipped these up in MS Paint and am too lazy to go back and change it. Over the last two recruiting cycles alone, the head ball coach has brought in 10 different scholarship players to Kansas from Wisconsin. This year, they landed a hotly-contested battle for Craig Lonergan, a 4* punter out of Racine Horlick who had been strongly leaning towards Minnesota's offer until he noticed what true freshman kicker Jake Ramirez was doing in Lawrence. Lonergan is expected to see playing time immediately despite 2021 class punter Victor Weigel's passable showing as a true freshman himself. Free safety Blake Godfrey, a 3* from St. Croix Central, will immediately enter competition for a depth role that will need to sort itself out. Like many 3* players, he will probably be a 5-year player. And quarterbacks Robert Lemberger and William Abshire are a pair of dual-threats from the Fox Valley; Lemberger played at the dynasty school of Wisconsin's Division 6, leading the Legers to a pair of state title games while somehow not being hated by everyone in the county for being a pompous douchebag who went to Spri and interestingly was noticed for being a rival school to that of coach @Bundy s alma mater. Abshire was hot on the KU radar for over a year as well, with the Kansas staff taking note of him during a recruiting visit to see 2021 3* FB Alex Takahashi and his Neenah Rockets take on Abshire's undefeated Kimberly squad.
  2. John Hendrickson has played for the Titans for like 13 games but he still made the prestigious NFC pro Bowl ?
  3. Ramirez played a lot better than I expected and I could see him be a kicker who gets drafted one day which is exciting

  6. For Kansas basketball, the hype has never been more real. When we last saw the Jayhawks, a preseason contract dispute removed the coach they had tabbed as their head man, derailing any major hopes they'd had. A lost season nationwide followed, but out of the darkness rose the Jayhawks - this time coming to terms with KU football coach @Bundy to take on a major role in the Kansas athletics department, where he'll serve as head man for both basketball and football as the Deputy Athletic Director. Bundy's first major moves in the basketball world were scheduling a competitive and energetic schedule, while keeping locality as a priority. "We want our fans to be able to travel with us - engage in the rivalries, but still make an affordable weekend out of it for the family." Kansas will of course play the usual suspects in the Big 12, but they open up with a non-conference slate with games in Indiana, Idaho apparently which is just being found out today and no Im not salty the previously scheduled game in that time slot got changed without being told ? , and a destination game against Miami and coach @cultur3 which has been dubbed "The Greg Classic" , with proceeds being split between local charities to get PBRs into the hands of local legends. Kansas also faces Duke in a neutral site clash between two literal blue bloods. But perhaps more exciting than this string of away matchups, is the lineup of home OOC games. Wichita State, South Dakota State, and Wisconsin are all big time games on the court, and Utah State coming to town will be no slouch. Kansas will wrap up OOC with conference clashes, traveling to Villanova as the Big 12 takes on the Big East, and traveling to Auburn in a fight against the SEC. At Kansas practice, there's been a notable lack of a true big seeing major minutes, with the only center on the roster, seven footer, redshirt freshman Simon Woods, being an offensive liability. The Jayhawks have been focusing heavily on rotating their forwards to make up for this. An expected Kansas opening tip lineup will likely include freshmen Joseph Wingard and Kevin Lukacs, redshirt junior Jimmie Coleman, who are all guards. "We don't have a lot of height on this team," says Coleman. "So we want to really attack the wing." With Wingard and Lukacs coming into the lineup as true freshmen, there's a lot of hope that they'll be the future core of the team for years to come. Joining the backcourt trio will be senior forward Ramon Duncan and junior forward Donald Perez. We've seen a lot of Louis Carter and Jack Edwards at the 6 + 7 in early practice, but expect minutes to get spread around during noncon.
  7. The Draft Class The Vikings front office was notably absent from the draft after their big move up with Seattle to 7th overall, and it shows. A disappointing year that resulted in playoff elimination with a week left on the year is just another reminder - do not miss the draft. Vikings fans still had a lot to be excited about in their first year of competition. Young quarterback Christian Sinnock passed for over 5,000 yards in the 16 games he played, the team went 2-0 against Green Bay, and there's a clear foundation to build upon going forward. This years draft class performed as follows: Round 1 Pick 7 - Alex Williams III, WR, Wisconsin 56 Receptions/118 Targets, 697 Yards, 2 TD, 1076 Snaps Round 3 Pick 25 (89th overall) - Cooper McGough, RB, Virginia 178 Carries, 535 Yards, 3.00avg, 6 TD - 63 Catches/84 Targets, 445 Yards, 4 TD, 789 Snaps Round 5 Pick 25 (153rd overall) - Morgan Johnson, CB, Coastal Carolina 2 Tackles, 43 Snaps Round 6 Pick 8 (168th overall) - Mitch Rivers, DE, Texas A&M 47 Tackles, 10 Asst. Tackles, 2 TFL, 2.0 Sacks, 1208 Snaps Round 7 Pick 25 (217th overall) - Anthony Ahmed, SS, Louisiana-Monroe 11 Special Teams tackles, 501 Snaps Round 8 Pick 8 (232nd overall) - Nick Beltre, CB, Arkansas 32 Snaps The Vikings moved up to 7th overall in a trade that would sacrifice a few draft picks in 2022 + 2023, but land themselves Alex Williams III, the explosive national phenom playing just hours away in Madison, Wisconsin. It shocked many because the Vikings had made a point in landing WR Mathew Madden in free agency, as well as selecting Paul Gurule from their player pool, but the offense was clearly geared around chucking the pigskin around. Williams the Third primarily played WR3 for the Vikings during his rookie year, and while he didn't seem to make the highlight reels he had been in college, he still showed he can be an option in this offense. The Vikings traded their starting tight end John Hendrickson away during the early part of the year, seemingly an emphasis that Williams is going to be a focal point now and going forward. His biggest flaw so far seems to be contested catches - he needs to haul in more than 47% of his targets to be a true threat, and to make the trade worthwhile. Cooper McGough surprisingly fell to the 3rd round of the draft, where the Vikings snagged him as another big name collegiate talent. The Vikings already had aging vet Bruno Hanson on the roster at RB, but McGough was given plenty of opportunity to make plays, and was often handed the reigns, and the results were a mixed bag. McGough is clearly viable in the receiving game out of the backfield, but the Vikings offensive line, and offense in general, was not built to pound the rock, and McGough struggled to take the game over on his own. McGough finished with the most snaps of any Vikings ball carrier, and could potentially become the fulltime feature back going into 2023. Morgan Johnson got traded to Washington. Mitch Rivers was someone the Vikings FO fell in love with throughout the predraft process, and he played decently for his draft position. He wasn't an edge rushing nightmare, but he could develop a little bit into a guy who can shut down outside runs. If the Vikings are given the opportunity to draft a premier pass rusher, Rivers resume won't hold them back, but he's solid enough and gained a lot of experience to allow the team to address other needs. Anthony Ahmed has a ladder to climb if he wants to contribute when the defense is out there, but the late rounder led the Vikings in special teams tackles, and is certainly a name to watch going forward as a fan favorite. Nick Beltre was on the team. He occasionally worked his way into the bottom of the CB depth chart, and occasionally found himself on the special teams units, but he was an afterthought as a rookie. He'll have a mountain to climb to keep his roster spot in Minnesota. The UNDraft Class The Vikings draft class itself may have been underwhelming at best, but their front office scoured the overall draft process like no other, giving a significant amount of roster spots, both initial and midseason, to rookies who didn't hear their names called on draft day. Austin Bishop, QB, Wisconsin 13/27 (48.14%), 169 Yards, 0 TD, 2 INT, 42 Snaps Robert Thomas, RB, UNLV 36 Carries, 121 Yards, 3.36avg, 2 TD; 4 Catches/9 Targets, 47 Yards, 856 KR Yards, 41 PR, 552 PR Yards, 13.46 PR Avg, 5 Special Teams tackles, 652 snaps Le'Veon Caminero, RB, Wisconsin 5 Carries, 6 Yards, 1.20avg, 1 Reception/1 Target, 19 Receiving Yards, 294 KR Yards, 17 PR, 208 PR Yards, 12.24 PR Avg, 490 Snaps D.J. Neverauskas, TE, Florida State 15 Catches/27 Targets, 111 Yards, 0 TD, 306 Snaps Oswaldo Urrutia, WR, Alabama 5 Carries, 19 Yards, 3.80 avg, 9 Catches/16 Targets, 78 Yards, 1 Special Teams tackle, 330 snaps Austin Clark, WR, Tulane 48 KR Yards, 6 Special Teams tackles, 417 snaps Brandon Gwynn, OT/OG, Tulane 1 Sack Allowed, 2 Special Teams tackles, 497 snaps Eldridge Staggers, OT, North Dakota State 277 Snaps Francisco Spaight, OG, Sacramento State 1 Special Teams tackle, 84 snaps Danny Syndergaard, OG, Kansas 42 snaps Eliser Blake, DE, Easterm Michigan 1 Special Teams tackle, 84 snaps Chris LaDouceur, DT, Bowling Green 6 tackles, 139 snaps Che-Hsuan Byard, DT, Oklahoma State 4 Special Teams tackles, 417 snaps Daniel Dekker, DT, Kansas 88 Snaps Anthony Williams, ILB, Ole Miss 8 Special Teams tackles, 501 snaps Jihad Leroux, ILB, Wisconsin 5 Special Teams tackles, 329 snaps Jayson Grimm, ILB, Southern Miss 2 Special Teams tackles, 84 snaps Nelson Velasquez, OLB, Kansas 84 Snaps LaRoy Crockett, CB, Mississippi State 22 Tackles, 1 INT, 617 snaps J.P. Cunningham, CB, Wake Forest 17 Tackles, 1 TFL, 7 Special Teams tackles, 798 snaps Shawn Johnson, FS, Kansas 3 Special Teams tackles, 84 Snaps Robin Reynolds, K, BYU 24/34 FG (70.59%), 48 Long; 32/36 XP (88.89%) There's a lot to take in with the massive UDFA list. For starters, the Vikings went hard after Alex Williams' teammates Austin Bishop and Le'Veon Caminero, wanting to make Williams as comfortable as possible as he transitioned to the League, and wanting to implement a pass heavy offense. Bishop was given the starting nod for the final game once the Vikings were out of the playoffs, and while he didn't look good, he didn't look terrible. Its likely Bishop has a leg up on any contenders to be the reserve to Christian Sinnock going forward. Caminero provides little on the ground, but could sneak in as a slot receiver or backup returner. More exciting than Caminero was UDFA/Eagles practice squader Robert Thomas. Thomas was 2nd in the NCAA in rushing yards in 2021 to only McGough, and the Vikings targeted his ability in space as an athlete to fill out the bottom of their roster - basically, they view him as what they'd want Caminero to be. D.J. Neverauskas assumed the starting TE role once John Hendrickson was moved away, and while he was a stud for Matt Howard in Florida State's 2021 dream season, he was a non-factor as a rookie, and is now a pending free agent. Oswaldo Urrutia won Mr. Mankato as the Vikings outstanding rookie during the preseason, and he saw action early in the year, though his role was reduced as the season went on. He has an ability to stretch the field as evidenced in his lone season as Alabama, but in a star-studded receiving corps, his opportunities to crack the lineup will be few. Austin Clark showed similar athleticism at Tulane, and actually landed a tryout with the Vikings during the midseason when his former Tulane coach @kgreene829 talked him up to the Vikings brass. Clark excelled as a special teamer in Year 1, which could land him a long-time role. Brandon Gwynn was the only rookie lineman to see much in the way of reps, seeing time at guard as the team rotated through Jin Webb and Fernando Zapata to see who could be their 5th OL going forward. None of the 3 impressed. Defensively the Vikings had a few UDFA step up to be role players. Chris LaDouceur saw time in a rotation at DT, and may have earned himself a backup role for 2023. Anthony Williams and Jihad Leroux added to the Vikings special teams corps, and with a big question mark at ILB looming, both have earned favor with the Vikings coaching staff. LaRoy Crockett and J.P. Cunningham each earned reps at the nickel and dime roles, with Crockett even securing an interception. Expect both to compete for top 5 CB roles on the team next offseason. Kicker Robin Reynolds was atrocious. The Vikings cut their pool kickers for UDFA Brandon Smith of Colorado State, who had a big leg but struggled significantly with accuracy. Smith was cut near the end of the preseason for Reynolds, who the team would slowly lose confidence in as the year went on. Reynolds isn't necessarily getting cut the instant the 2023 League Year opens, but he's certainly scrubbing his social media and updating his Indeed resume throughout the playoffs. The Vikings came away from the 2022 rookie class with 4-5 players who made impacts in their regular lineup, and 3-5 more who looked solid on special teams. With conditional picks now starting to be able to be sorted, the Vikings enter the 2023 offseason with at least 10 draft selections: 1st Round (Vikings) 2nd Round (Vikings) 3rd Round (Bills OR Titans) 4th Round (Bills OR Titans) 4th Round (Vikings) 5th Round (Bills OR Titans) 5th Round (Vikings) 5th Round (Washington) 6th Round (Vikings) 7th Round (Washington) the Vikings also will gain either Washington's 2023 4th Rounder (with a 2024 7th), or a 2024 3rd, depending how Washington does on the season.

  10. He laid crumpled on the ground as hundreds wearing gold and black rushed past him to midfield. Pure exhaustion. It took what felt like an eternity for teammate Bene' Humber to make his way over and lend a helping hand. Alex Atkins took it, and the two locked eyes to share the moment - defeat. Atkins got to his feet, looking around - there weren't any other Jayhawks left on the field besides Humber and sweatshirt wearing, redshirting RB Cody Casspi. A security escort had circled the three, and they were ushered away from the madness, past the abandoned helmet that had separated from its eyeshield when receiver Junior Ogbah slammed it moments earlier, and out of the stadium. The locker room was eerily quiet, no music blasting from speakers like it had no matter if the team had won or lost in games before. You could hear a few low mumbled voices, or the occasional sniffle of those trying to keep their composure. For a moment Atkins placed his hand on the shoulder of sunken headed quarterback Ian Morgan, who had played his final collegiate game, but quickly moved on further into the locker room. A group of defensive linemen - Marvin Machado, Dan Dekker, and Dante Gates - posed for a quick photo, though none of them looked enthused to be taking it. Atkins found his locker, and sat down, refusing to strip out of his gear and soaking it all in. Slowly, the others showered and left the locker room to the bus, but Atkins just kept sitting there. Again, it was Bene' Humber who found him, gently grabbing Atkins' facemask and raising it so that the two were once again looking at each other. And then Bene' did something profound. Rather than scolding him, or offering stereotypical solace, he said the most motivating thing in Atkins' young life. "Is this it?" This was the scene one year ago. Kansas was in the midst of leading a valiant comeback effort, spearheaded by Atkins and Humber. Atkins had flipped the field with a 44 yard catch and grab with seven minutes to go, taking a massive shot to his elbow from Missouri SS Andrew Blackburn that he'd somehow shrugged off at the catch point, before getting tracked down by Blackburn down field. Humber had, kicking and screaming, dragged a trio of Missouri defenders into the end zone from 24 yards out. The defense made a stop. Kansas had just under five minutes to go, and trailed by 4. Ian Morgan dropped an incredible dime in Atkins hands down the seem, perhaps just an inch or two off of pure, poetic passing. And Atkins, still feeling the effects in his right arm from the shot he'd taken a few minutes prior, extended out for the ball and deflected it away in agony as his tendons stung from the contact. Incomplete. Atkins waved off the training staff as he trudged back to the huddle. He could feel the glare from the senior linemen who had perfect protection on the play, and he wanted nothing more than to disappear. Bene' Humber gave him a friendly smack across the helmet. The play came in, and they lined up once more from their own 25. The ball was snapped. Alex slapped away the defensive end to get around him, letting out a yelp in pain, but he was free, he was open and he was free and there was no one near him as he made his cut. He looked back to find the ball, and his eyes met Morgan's. And then Morgan checked down to receiver Adam Williams for a gain of 5. Alex trotted back to the huddle, "I was open!" he barked at Morgan. Morgan just turned away from him. The team ran the ball, was penalized, and punted to preserve field position. Alex was fuming. "I WAS OPEN!" he exclaimed again at Morgan on the sidelines, but it was lost as a sea of backups and grad assistants had come between benches. The defense made ANOTHER stand. Less than a minute left, and they were going to get the ball back! Missouri punted the ball, returner Aaron Diaz moved it to the KU 22. 16 seconds. One or two plays. Atkins came out of the huddle with energy, ready to line up at tight end. The crowd was deafening, but he could hear Bene' shouting behind him that he should move to the slot, and before getting set, Alex looked back towards Morgan at QB to make sure he knew. He saw Morgan give a look of confusion to Bene' Humber before a quick nod of acknowledgement his way. The snap. Atkins was supposed to run a rub route initially, but noticed he had no defender outside of the hashes, and got out there into space. He knew he had to get towards the sideline. He turned just in time to have the ball smack him in the front of his chest bouncing away from his shoulder pads! BUT HIS ARMS EXTENDED AND HE CAUGHT IT! He turned to go back up field, but a safety came out of nowhere, cutting off the path to the sideline. Atkins had to go off to the races, and he mustered all he could. He passed the safety! He saw no one in his peripherals! He crossed the 40! He was at midfield! And then as he graced the Mizzew 40, everything slowed down. He could hear the crowd erupting. He felt the crushing blow of the shoulder planted into his back. And he fell forward one yard, to the Missouri 39, as ILB Ryan Wilson slid across and over him, screaming and bolting towards his Missouri sideline, who were also bolting towards him. Atkins laid crumpled on the ground. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "This isn't Disney," Atkins chuckled to the Mouse owned, ESPN reporter at this week's open media availability on Tuesday afternoon. "We have 7 wins, in all likelihood, we're making a bowl, which is super exciting and something they can't take away from us this year. So, it's not 'all on the line' like that. But I want to win just as bad as I did last year, if not more. These schools, states, people have had bad blood since the beginning of time, and I'm just another chapter in it. But I know as a school and as an athletic department, there's the rumors of 'finding other out of conference opponents to schedule', which we're seeing with our basketball team, and that's super exciting too. I know our coaches and AD haven't even told us what's going on with playing them, or not, after this week. So I have to keep going back to what my captain and best friend instilled in me a year ago. For all of the chances to make a name for Kansas football, to prove we deserve a shot in the Top 25 rankings, for the Big 12, at home, against Mizzewwww, for ourselves - is. This. it?" 7-4 Kansas takes on 8-3 Missouri at home this weekend. Flex scheduling applies so kickoff is still TBD at this time, and tickets are unavailable since the game is sold out, although you can reach out to KU Athletics for secure secondary market ticket purchases.

  12. I think I previously tried playing as Kansas but don’t remember, I would be interested in having them again since despite my work schedule being wildly variable and draining, I’ve been alotting myself time to screw around on here to unwind
  13. The Badgers also graduated A LOT. QB Austin Bishop (5th in yards, T-6th in TDs) RB Leveon Caminero (1,066 rushing yards; 12 TDs; 738 receiving yards [9th of RBs], 6 TDs [T-11th]) WR Alex Williams III (1st in yards, T-5th in TDs) Heisman finalist OLB Jayson Brown (10 sacks led nation) and cranked out 6 draft picks, 5 of which weren't mentioned above. They were simply built to be a prolific passing offense last year, and I think their new regime will need a couple seasons to build their own identity

  18. per the Great Toucan in discord, who said to comment to nominate others KANSAS would like to nominate kicker JAKE RAMIREZ for the famed and notable GROZA Award. Ramirez on the year has gone 13/16 on field goals, but his misses have all come from 50+. His make of 51 is the 2nd-Longest make in the nation, with his 3 rare misses coming from 51, 51, and 54. Ramirez isn't afraid to sacrifice a perfect kick % while kicking at a comfortable range in order to put the team on his back, and he also has a make of 49 which would be a deeper hit on its own than all but 4 other kickers in the nation. Jake Ramirez. 2022. Groza.
