  1. Not sure how "popular" this suggestion would be, but I think 5-stars should generally be some of the last to sign rather than 1st. Would make it more realistic, although Im sure missing out on a 5-star would increase in level of salt after battling all year. But it would make more strategy for mid-tier croots, make them more valuable off the bat, etc.

  3. Kansas WR Trenton Adam scampers with a rare reception against Oklahoma State during Week 6, 2022. GAME 4: W 34-3 vs Oklahoma State GAME 5: L 21-3 at Oklahoma GAME 6: W 24-10 at Texas Tech Following a 2-1 start to the 2022 season, Kansas entered the 2nd quarter of their season with sky-high expectations. A lot of the 1st Quarter of the season was left reflecting on the 2021 season, which finished with a loss to Missouri that put Kansas at 5-7 and missing a bowl berth. Quarterbacks Kansas redshirt freshman QB Tyler Summers took the brunt of the blame for the inefficiencies in Kansas' offense. Summers has a lot of upside - and can be productive on the ground - but was rating as one of the worst collegiate QBs in the country, prompting KU coach @Bundy to make the switch to senior QB Jeff Maeda, who had previously started the 2021 season opener before being benched himself. Maeda has not lit it up through the air - and he certainly offers little to nothing in the ground game - but he's been significantly better in the turnover department. Maeda isn't given many chances to chuck the ball around (just 44 attempts through 3 games), and he's struggled to find a rhythm, completing just 26 of those attempts. But 26/44 is 59.09%, a major lift from Summers' 48.61%. Maeda has also thrown for just 201 yards (4.56 yards/att) which is down over a yard from Summers. But Maeda also has 3 touchdown passes and no interceptions. Grade: F Maeda has proven he can take care of the football, but he's not one Kansas can ask to take chances either. The gameplan doesn't ask him to do much with his arm - but uneasiness has KU faithful pushing to see junior athlete Aaron Diaz take some snaps. Kansas is bowl or bust - and with one of the toughest remaining slates, at least in the Big 12, if they're eliminated early expect to see more of Summers. If Maeda is holding them back, perhaps they'll look to Diaz. Running Backs The highlight of the season has been the success of Kansas' trio of toters. Cody Casspi won't be on anyone's Heisman hopeful list unless he has a Cinderella 2nd half of the season, but over the last 3 games he's rushed for 433 yards and 2 TDs on a 7.34 avg, bringing his season stats to 627 yards, 6.46 avg, and 4 TD. He had a 212 yard statement game against Oklahoma State, and Kansas will need to ride his momentum. Casspi has hauled in 3/4 targets for 12 yards from Maeda. Bene' Humber was previously profiled as an All-Conference player who lost his job to a younger Casspi, but he's still getting his fair share of carries as well. Starting the year he was only averaging 7 carries per game, and he's doubled that in the Maeda-led offense, with 42 carries for 202 yards and 2 TDs the last 3 games. On the season he's up to 319 yards and 3 TD on a 5.06 avg. He added 1 reception on 2 targets for 10 yards. Impressive true fullback Marcell Maysonet does a lot of the dirty work in this offense, rarely getting scoring opportunities but facing many stacked boxes. He's been getting the lion's share of rush attempts, with 62 over the last three games and 124 total on the season. His 272 yards this quarter bring him to 568 yards, a 4.58 avg, and 2 TDs thus far. 3rd string halfback Jacob Flores has managed to find himself earning 5 touches for 15 yards. Flores recently expressed interest in transferring to the FCS and so maybe his "grass is greener" ideas earned him a few chances here, but he doesn't look to be a long term impact this season, if not in the future. Grade: A- If Kansas is going to pull 2 more wins out of the remaining gauntlet that is their schedule, there's no better group than the one that's in this RB stable. Receivers Seniors Trenton Adam and Adam Williams have had disappointing seasons. T.A. has hauled in 7 of Maeda's 12 targets, gaining 59 yards and notching a rare KU TD. A. W. has managed 3 receptions on 4 targets for 32 yards, with a 21 yard catch on his only opportunity against Texas Tech. The rest of the receiving corps has been non-existent. Grade: D It might be better to give the Adams an "incomplete" grade, as they simply haven't had opportunity to do much of anything. They're entirely dependent on the poor state of the QB room, and that's held them and the team back. An "average college QB" could have the pair looking at 1000 yard seasons - while they might struggle to reach anywhere close to that mark as a duo this year. Tight Ends Kansas has leaned big into 2-TE sets this year, and they coach their poor QBs to look for them as quick outlets often. Alex Atkins "exploded" when the team first turned to Maeda, with Atkins hauling in 5 of 6 targets for 52 yards and a TD against Oklahoma State. In the following games, he's turned 9 targets into 5 receptions for 29 yards. Steel Blue was Kansas' big get last year in recruiting, a shiny fancy toy that should maybe have sat in the box this year rather than being opened right away. 2 receptions on 4 targets for 7 yards has been laughable. There's internal thought of shutting Blue down for the year and letting him focus on mental reps until 2024 - he's managed 3 receptions for 10 yards across 10 targets in a disappointing freshman campaign. Grade: D Atkins has shown potential when given opportunity. Offensive Line Oklahoma terrorized Jeff Maeda for 3 sacks, but those 3 sacks are still the only ones allowed by this group across (just) 119 dropbacks. During this quarter, Kansas rushed for 438 yards against Oklahoma State, 229 Oklahoma, and 295 Texas Tech. 962 rush yards in these three games have gone for 5.40 yards per attempt, up from their first quarter. Grade: A- Kansas still can't throw the ball but it still doesn't seem like the fault of the line. They can pound the rock all day. Defensive Line 6 sacks againts Oklahoma State and 2 more against Texas Tech have opposing scouts taking notice. Zack Luke has added another 3 sacks (bringing him up to 6.0 on the year) with 5 TFLs (10.5) and could be playing himself into All-Conference contention. Randal Holmes is up to 4.5 TFL and 2.5 sacks, though he could begin a rotation with Eli Reyes at that end spot. On the interior Mike Brantly has added 4 TFL and 2.5 sacks, which brings him to 8 and 3.0 respectively. Dante Gates has tapered off as KU has gotten into conference play, with better offensive linemen focusing on the big man. Grade: B Teams struggle to rush against Kansas, especially RBs - its like a night and day switch from KU's own offense. But they didn't touch Pace Frandsen in the loss to the Sooners, which is key when needing to beat a big time opponent. Linebackers Ziggy Sands is up to 40 tackles, 3 asst., and 13 TFL on the year, practically mirroring his 1st quarter stats. ROLB Aaron Freeman has notched 11 tackles recently, totaling 21 tackles and 1 asst. LOLB Cooper Morrison has almost entirely disappeared since moving to the LOLB role from the right side - which is surprising since the move was made to get him in the face of ball carriers more often. Morrison only made 2 tackles this quarter. Grade: C Ziggy on his own deserves an A if not A+, but the OLBs in this defense have underwhelmed individually. Opposing RBs have 13 receptions, meaning opportunity is there to play the ball or wrack up tackles, but it just isn't happening on the edge. DBs Kansas swapped their nickel corner and strong safety after a slow start, which has helped them generate 3 interceptions in as many weeks (FS Kevin Suarez x1, CB Chaz Tuivailala x2). Kansas still is in the negative in the passing turnovers department on the year, but if Chaz can return to his All-American form, as he's done the last two weeks, they should be able to give their offense a shot. Austin Duvernay-Tardif of Oklahoma State should be a 1st rounder in a future NFL draft - he's going to put up yardage. But KU held him to just 5 receptions on 13 targets. They also limited fellow OSU WR Colton Smith to 5 receptions on 15 targets. The only receiver to truly best them was OU WR Justin Neary - going 7/9 for 158 and a TD. Grade: C+ The secondary holds its own, but the Jayhawks will only go as far as these DBs let them. 3 INT over the last 90 attempts is big. Specialists Freshman phenom Victor Weigel continues to overperform his recruit rating, punting 19 more times for a 53.58 avg this quarter alone, and is up to 53.09avg on the year. 7 more punts inside the 20 bring him up to 14 across 35 punts. Freshman kicker Jake Ramirez adds 7/7 XP to now be 13/13 on the year, with FG makes of 49, 35, 38, and 30 this quarter (9/12 FG, 52 Long, 3/3 between 40-50, 2/5 from 50+). Grade: A Ramirez is taking care of business and looks like a future star, while Weigel has held his own through difficult field position. SQUAWK CHALK Week 9: Texas Kansas looks to upset coach @joopear and the Longhorns, who are climbing in national recognition. As coach of Arizona during the spring, Joopear got a first hand look as how to handle the Jayhawks. Week 10: at Wisconsin Casspi and Co. head north to Camp Randall during the heart of autumn. While not quite the Frozen Tundra, there's a chance of snow and certainly blustery, biting winds off of Lake Mendota. Wisconsin was a recruiting hotbed for the Jayhawks in 2021, but this will also be a homecoming for KU coach @Bundy who grew up not much more than an hour away. Week 11: TCU Perhaps TCU should come up to Wisconsin a week earlier to Jump Around, because @Giambro has the Horned Frogs hoppin'. An excellent opportunity to showcase All-American CB Chaz Tuivailala against an elite passing attack.

  6. Could do it like “short yardage back”, and you throw your power back/FB/gimmick fat boy in there for those short yardage and goal line scenarios, and “3rd down back” for a more speedy, or receiving oriented, back when you want to pick up longer chunks. could maybe make them optional positions that default to RB1 if not filled out

  16. not sure how hard to implement the logic would be, but could make it so "if down 3 or less with less than 0:45 and in Maximum FG range, attempt FG"
  17. I feel like a lot of missed kicks come from QBs kicking too so maybe well have to update DC logic on AI teams
  18. Not sure the best way to do it, but I hate bye weeks so i scheduled them all to be early, and then an early loss really punches you hard in RES. I guess the easy fix is “win your games, scrub” but when you’ve played 2 games to someone’s 5, it seems unbalanced to take such a massive RES hit for one close loss, while other teams aren’t feeling it quite as dramatically over the same time frame. I suppose over time you could eventually “balance out” as those other teams will have an open date here and there through the schedule, but I’m thinking about the disadvantage of other teams with the same amount of losses having earlier higher RES and their points counting for more, thus making their recruiting leads larger at the start, then intimidating new users who look at an individual and see that they’re “unlikely” to land a croot because of it. Could maybe try to factor in “quality of W and L” into RES.
  19. Kansas QB Tyler Summers rushes against West Virginia in their Week 5, 2022 matchup. Quarterbacks Redshirt freshman Tyler Summers has been the only Kansas quarterback to receive reps outside of practice, with him playing both of their spring scrimmages and starting all three games to date. Summers best game was the season opener hosting Michigan, where he went just 13/24 for 158 and an INT. On the season, he's gone just 35/72 (48.61%) for 412 yards (a 5.72 avg), with no TDs and SIX interceptions. Grade: F Summers has ability on the ground - rushing for 184 yards on 39 attempts, a 4.71 average and found the end zone this week at West Virginia. But he offers nothing in the passing game, and its likely we'll see a new signal caller for the rest of the season wiht Summers needing to develop a bit more if Kansas wants him to command them to a bowl game. 2021 punt returning athlete Aaron Diaz, a junior once thought to be in early competition for the job, or senior quarterback Jeff Maeda, who started Kansas' inaugural game in 2021 but was relegated to clipboard holding behind Ian Morgan the rest of the way, are those expected to see time at the position going forward. Maeda put up a similarly poor pass completion % in his lone start, but had added 271 yards and thrown a touchdown, simplistic benchmarks Summers feels miles away from touching. Runningbacks Kansas has unveiled a 3-headed rushing attack that has been eye opening for multiple reasons. The Bene' Humber truthers, enamored by his success when it has come to early Big 12 awards, wonder why he isn't being used as a feature back in his senior season, with a few angered that it could be hurting his draft prospects. However, redshirt sophomore Cody Casspi has done more than enough to prove excitement for the future, both the rest of the season and for the following years. And probably most intriguingly, junior fullback Marcell Maysonet has become a big staple in the offense, after toting the rock just 14 times in 2021. Humber started the year against Michigan with just 3 carries for 3 yards. He's since followed that up with 18 carries for 114 yards the last two weeks, bringing him to a 1st quarter total of a 5.57 rushing average with a singular touchdown. Humber has added 3 receptions for 14 yards. Casspi has exploded onto the scene, with 38 attempts for 194 yards, 5.11 average and 2 TDs. While his average isn't quite up there with Humber's, it is well believed at this point that Casspi has more than enough ability to take a permanent bell cow position in the offense come 2023. Casspi rounds out with 4 receptions for 41 yards. Maysonet came into spring camp wondering if he even had a future on the roster, with KU having brought in two freshman fullbacks. Instead, he's churned out team leading marks of 62 attempts, 296 yards,. and 2 rushing touchdowns. His average is lower at 4.77 yards per carry, which is still very good, especially considering Kansas has been using him to slam up the inside. Maysonet has only seen one target in the passing game. Grade: A- If Kansas can keep their rushing averages as is, while feeding everybody a healthy amount, this team could have a winning season. With Summers imminent benching, though, its unsure whether Kansas will keep rushing as their bread and butter, or try to open the passing game up more with some more intermediate routes. Receivers 5th-year senior Trenton Adam and 4th-year senior Adam Williams were expected to provide steady if not occasionally lethal threats when Kansas has thrown the football, and that hasn't quite been the case this season. Trenton Adam opened his collegiate career with 3-69 on 6 targets against Michigan, but Kansas has dialed back their passing, and it turned him into a monster against Iowa State with 7/112 on 10 targets, before settling to season lows 2-12 on 5 against WVU. On the season, he's totaled 12-205 across 21 targets - enough to move the sticks at times, but not someone to gameplan against. Surprisingly, his reception, yard, and target numbers are on pace to dwarf 2022 1st Round Draft Selection Junior Ogbah's stats come season end, but no KU receiver has hauled in a TD to date this year. With Tyler Summers benched, maybe a more experienced QB can connect better to the impressive-in-practice wide out. Adam Williams was thought a darkhorse redshirt candidate this year after posting 57-779-5 marks in 2021, but fellow senior Tomas Nelson ended up getting that role. Williams was excited to team up with Adam for the "Adam + Adam" gimmick at the wide receiver position. Williams has been a massive disappointment though, notching just 5 receptions for 58 yards on 10 targets. Perhaps he should have been the one taking the redshirt year after all. No other Kansas receiver has seen a target this year, which was to be expected with the team focusing on extra players near the tackle box rather than spread wide. Grade: C- Trenton Adam has performed decently enough in the WR1 role. He could catch a larger % of passes, but he's been performing at a reception rate similar to last year's Jayhawk receivers. Adam Williams has seen a massive step back, but he too could be suffering from quarterback incompetency rather than it being solely his fault for the way his stats look. Should Kansas open up the offense a bit and go 3- or even 4-wide at times down the stretch, expect it to be Bene' Humber and Steel Blue getting opportunities out wide rather than a true wide receiver. Junior Nate Lucas has struggled to separate from even OLBs in coverage in practice, while junior Braden James has seen his role relegated to special teams coverage duties. Tight Ends Perhaps no position received more off season hype locally than the KU tight end position. Junior Alex Atkins lit up the Big 12 last year, and KU top recruit Steel Blue was expected to come in and contribute day one. Kansas has run a lot of 2-TE looks, and thus far, it hasn't paid off so much in the receiving game. Atkins opened up the year with 4/37 on 5 targets, but has added just 6/66 on 13 targets since then. Atkins opened up to Big 12 reporters post game this week, expressing personal frustration and a desire to bounce back over the next 9 games. Steel Blue has just one reception on 6 targets for 3 yards, and its entirely possible he sees a redshirt year in 2023, since he just hasn't been ready to compete quite yet. Kansas will look to line him up out wide to try to get the 2021 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ recruit more opportunities to shine. Grade: D Another position group that's struggled dealing with inadequate quarterback play, seeing 24 targets in 3 games and turning them into just 106 yards has truly held back a one trick pony offense. There's legitimate potential here for both of the main contributors - but its possible we see more of sophomore Bryan David, who excels at run blocking. Offensive Line The Kansas offensive line took massive blows with the losses of last year's offensive leaders, left tackle Gary Albers and right guard Danny Syndergaard. But they've added redshirt junior Pete Blythe into the middle at center, and a line thats seen 6 different linemen play this year, with Drew Solano starting 2 games and Zach Rogers 1, has actually meshed pretty decently. Kansas' headline players Bene' Humber, Trenton Adam, and Adam Williams aren't the captains from 2022's offense, no - its senior RT Rashad Shaw and junior LG Jose Moustakas calling the shots, filling in for Albers + Syndergaard more than admirably. The KU offensive line has allowed 0 sacks across 72 dropbacks, and has helped Kansas rush for 791 yards on 160 carries, a 4.94 team average. Grade: B+ While Kansas hasn't been able to throw the football effectively at all, the line has held up their end of the job. They've been tasked with lots of rushing reps, and every day in practice has been a competition for a starting spot. The team graduates Shaw and first year starter RG Ben Gohara this season, so big push is needed to send them out with some flair. Defensive Line Kansas' defensive line hasn't been thought of as a wrecking force on the national scale, and an underperforming 2021 certainly didn't help their reputation. But coach @Bundy made a massive switch, removing young and rising DE Eli Reyes (2021 true freshman stats: 31 tackles, 5 TFL, 4.0 sacks) from the starting lineup in favor of 2021 special teams captain and current senior, Zack Luke. Luke has absolutely dominated the edge position this year, putting up 14 tackles, 2 asst., 5.5 TFLs, and 3.0 sacks. Reyes will certainly get the chance to play more in 2023, but so far the change to Luke has paid off on the stat sheet. On the opposite side is Randal Holmes, replacing 2022 Draft Selection Marvin Machado. Holmes, a true junior, beat out Reyes and redshirt junior Chris Barreto for the chance to start. He's only managed 8 tackles and 2 TFL in 3 contests, opening up the door for Barreto and Reyes so see future playing time. On the interior, Kansas lost Daniel Dekker to graduation, but senior defensive tackle Mike Brantly made a massive leap from his junior season to fill that space. Brantly, who registered just 10 tackles with a TFL and a FF in 2021, recorded 10 tackles, an asst. tackle, 1.5 TFL and a FF in the 2022 opener alone, and is up to 19 tackles, 1 asst., 4 TFL, 0.5 sacks, and a FF to date. Junior Dante Gates has a big year last year, and has been drawing a lot of focus from opposing OL, but has still made his presence known, with 9 tackles, 2.5 TFL and 1.5 sacks. Grade: B The defensive line as a unit has produced, and is a big reason why Kansas opponents are scoring just 18 PPG. But unless they get more consistency out of their other edge position, they can't be regarded as an upper Big 12 unit. Linebackers Ziggy Sands co-captains the Jayhawk defense alongside CB Chaz Tuivailala, and its no surprise as to why. Sands has a nose for the football, always found near the top of the list when it comes to KU tacklers. Last year he had 54 tackles, 3 asst., and 7 TFL. This year, he's off to a more impressive start, 21 tackles, 1 asst., 7.5 TFL. To his left, Aaron Freeman started the year before swapping sides with Cooper Morrison. Freeman is off to a 10 tackle, 1 asst. start, which is rather underwhelming. Morrison had a big Michigan game with 5 tackles, an asst., 0.5 TFL, and a FR and INT, but has added just 1 tackle since. Grade: C Sands has been eating A LOT of the ball carrier traffic, limiting opportunities for the others at the second level. But outside of the Michigan game, neither Freeman nor Morrison has shown anything special, which has been an issue. DBs Chaz Tuivailala was one of the nation's most impressive freshmen a season ago, and was honored with captaincy for his ability to lead the backfield. Unfortunately, the unit hasn't created any turnovers of their own in the passing game, with Kansas' lone interception coming from a linebacker. KU hasn't been torched by any singular receiver to date, but their bend-don't-break philosophy reminds one more of early 00s football than 2020s. Grade: C Kansas needs to generate turnovers of their own to match those that their offense coughs up. The defense does a solid job as a whole in not allowing other teams to find the end zone more than a couple times per game, but a run at a conference championship would require them to be lights out and score points of their own, and the secondary was constructed on getting flashy turnovers to give them those chances. Redshirt junior Ryan Gilliam will replace junior Tim Keller at NB for the foreseeable future, while senior SS Larshard Jones is likely to take over for redshirt sophomore Chance Johnson. Specialists Victor Weigel was an afterthought in 2021 recruiting, with the ⭐⭐⭐ freshman only receiving offers from Kansas and junior colleges Iowa Western and Coffeyville (KS). Instead, he came into KU camp and took the job after the first positional practice of the spring, beating junior Ivan Robinson and sophomore Juante Green. Weigel has punted 16 times for 840 yards, a 52.50 punt average with 7 punts downed inside the 20. Kansas overhyped 2021 freshman kicker George Jones early in the year, and he struggled to close the season, finishing just 14/29 on FG with a long of 46. Jones remains on the Kansas roster this season, but is a prime transfer portal candidate, particularly to a team on the east coast as he hails from the nation's capitol. Jones has been replaced by 2021 ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Jake Ramirez, a top 4 kicker recruit of last cycle and he's not #4 ? Ramirez is 6/6 on XP, 5/8 on FG, and his misses have come from 51, 51, and 54. He's 2/2 between 40 and 50 yards, and 2/5 from 50+ with a long make of 52. Grade: B Ramirez has been the star of Kansas' 2021 class, effectively putting the team on the board if they can reach an opposing 30 yard line. Coming into Week 5, he was the only kicker in the entire country to have connected from 50+. Weigel is largely a run of the mill punter, but his added value comes from being able to outperform expectations from day one. Kansas realistically doesn't have to land a replacement for either until the 2024 or 2025 recruit classes, and that's a big thing to be able to say 3 games into their careers.
  20. I want to disagree but with the way the seasons been going... I think you could be spot on down to the score ?

  22. Large Dozen The Big 12's Weekly Recap Show Iowa State 20, Kansas 16 Summers dreams, ripped at the seams Muchly anticipated redshirt sophomore quarterback Tyler Summers has been a consistent liability through two Kansas games this season. He started out flat to begin the year against Michigan, and his inefficiency in completing passes (13/24 at 54% against Michigan, 12/25 at 48% against Iowa State) and pair of costly interceptions this week might open up the Jayhawk QB room for competition. Summers was intercepted on Kansas' opening drive of the game, resulting in an Iowa State field goal, and was again picked down 13-17 in the 4th deep in Jayhawk territory, setting up Iowa State's final field goal that would ultimately be the dagger. Summers capability as a runner is unquestioned - following Iowa State's final field goal, Summers took Kansas on a 9 play, 82 yard drive that came up 4 yards short of the end zone, including a massive 42 yard Summers scamper. But after that play, he would finish 2/4 for 10 yards passing, and 2 carries for -1 yard. Freshman kicker Jake Ramirez missed two field goals that could have been difference makers - but one of them came from 51 yards out (eventually leading to an Iowa State TD), and the other from 54. He made kicks of 52, 42, and 22. Its not that Iowa State did anything particularly well. Their highly regarded offensive line allowed 3 sacks on 32 dropbacks, and they rushed for just 3.52 yards per carry, they had 9 punts to Kansas' 4. Their defense allowed 462 yards, 322 of it on the ground at 5.96 yards per carry. They just managed to rip off a few big plays when they needed to, and more importantly, did not turn the football over. Iowa State advances to 3-1 and travels to TCU next week for their 4th away game in as many tries, before ending their month-long road stretch with a much needed open date. Kansas, now 1-1 and averaging just 5 1st-half points per game, travels to West Virginia for a battle of the blues. Michigan 24, Oklahoma State 16 Just as Troy Marvin and the Cowboys were receiving national hype, their big dreams got blasted in the Big House. Michigan, trotting out Bobo Sims at QB, struggled to throw the football, but a big day by Vlad "the Impaler" Dawson on the ground was the difference. Oklahoma State could not run the ball at any efficiency, while Dawson and Fernando Blue put together 200 of Michigans 209 rushing yards. Marvin connected with Austin Duvernay-Tardiff 6 times for 116 and a TD, but it took 15 targets to get him there. The novel of Marvin's kicking stats counting towards a Heisman push may have worn off as well, as he missed a XP and a FG, this one from just 32 yards out. Oklahoma State travels to the state of Kansas for its next two games, taking on Kansas State this coming weekend. TCU 42, Oklahoma 21 After Week 0 I thought Pace Frandsen was going to be THE Big 12 QB this year, and yet... Andrew Solano has consistently shown he can duel with the best of them. Oklahoma on paper was a national contender at the beginning of the year, and Solano embarrassed them to the tune of 470 yards, 5 TDs, and 77% completion. Oren Colon went 7/180 and a score, and Anthony Danks smoked the Oklahoma DBs with 9/203 and three scores. And perhaps the best redemption story since 1984 - CB Anthony Shelton, who got bodied and outmuscled continually last time out, handled OU receiver Tim McRae (6'1", 193), giving up 4/67 but hauling in an interception. TCU, now 2-1, hosts Iowa State next week. For Oklahoma, its a big, brutal matchup with Baylor in Norman. Baylor 17, Texas 10 Its time to accept that Travis Knebel isn't going to win games on his arm. But he's going to win Baylor games. Texas has been known for airing the ball out the past two years, and for Hanser "the Polish Passer" Zagurski, he's out there having the time of his life. Unfortunately, on 52 pass attempts he was only able to connect on 33 of them, for just 254 yards and 1 TD. Its been a disappointing year for those hoping Ty Mizzell or Donatello Scott would set records, and Texas has been relegated to the bottom third of relevancy when it comes to football schools in its state. Meanwhile, they played a tight, slugfest of a game with Baylor, but again... Travis Knebel is going to win games for Baylor. And he's doing it on the ground, with 94 yards and 2 TDs. There is no easy breathing for Baylor. They travel to Oklahoma next week. Texas "looks to rebound" against a Texas Tech team that has found new life, in Lubbock. Penn State 27, Texas Tech 24 (OT) Texas Tech is unbeaten no more, but it took every tooth and nail from the Nittany Lions to end this cinderella story. The Red Raiders weren't able to do anything significant on offense, but their defense as a unit was flying around and finished with a majority of their guys getting TFLs. Texas Tech hasn't played any conference games yet, but they open hosting the Longhorns next weekend. Even taking the L today is a major step forward - there's hardly consolation in losing, but this team is significantly better than they were a year ago. Kansas State 31, West Virginia 27 West Virginia QB Shelby Musa continues to be the Big 12's model game manager, moving the ball in short chunks while the ground game churns out long drives, time possession, and scores. Unfortunately, Musa might just not be the guy to helm a WVU team looking to win games. Despite 170 yards and 3 touchdowns from top Mountaineer RBs, it was, to the shock of no one, Kansas State's offense looking explosive. WR Danny Cichy had another highlight reel game, hauling in 5/154/2, while QB Brandon Smith - although not perfect - shredded WVU for 344 and 3 TDs. West Virginia punter Brent Martin put together a solid game, but a missed FG from Mike Fox early in the 1st half could have changed the momentum of the game. Kansas State hosts Oklahoma State next week in what could have been billed nationally as a shootout between Smith and Troy Marvin. West Virginia hosts Kansas in what should be a "circle the calendar" game for both teams looking to prove their worth in an already deeply talented conference. The Bakery Big 12 Recruits ILB John Kwiecien - ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ - Baylor 6'3" - 247 Northhampton County (Gaston, NC) Baylor hasn't been lacking in the linebacker department, with Antwaun Vaccaro the heart of their 2022 defense, and of course the big reputation of Jehu Ginn, and they're probably set for 2024 with junior Shelby Wisler waiting in the wings behind Vaccaro. But no one on their roster compares to John Kwiecien, a massive prototypical run stopper who could probably set foot on the field next year as a true freshman. Baylor of course has Wisler, and true freshman Kevin Cole is no slouch either, but it will be hard for coach @Vivid to keep the kid in the film room and out of the huddle. TE Juan Corral - ⭐⭐⭐⭐ - West Virginia 6'5" - 216 Kellam (Virginia Beach, VA) West Virginia has not had a tight end the caliber of Juan Corral before. Current contributor Anfernee Ford has made plays at times, but Corral's slender frame could see him line up at WR3/4 during Red Zone or pure passing sets, and slot in to more of a traditional tight end role during x1 or x2 formations. West Virginia is making a big push to win locals into their fan base - and saying "we've got this kid from the area" goes far in selling merch and tickets for a program on the rise. Congratulations to coach @smackemz Only three recruits have committed across the county, all three from the eastern US/Mid Atlantic, with Glenelg, MDs Shawn Johnson committing to Penn State.
