  1. The Broncos have made their picks and wheeled their deals, and now it's time to look back on the draft that was! Trades Trade 1: Broncos receive Pick 62, Pick 93, 2024 CIN First <-> Bengals receive DE Phillip Wilcox (75), WR Barry Madruga (72), pick 190 Trade 2: Broncos receive Pick 164, Pick 196, LB Kyu Snyder <-> Seahawks receive 2024 DEN Sixth, 2024 Denver Seventh Trade 3: Broncos receive Pick 167, Pick 199 <-> Packers receive 2024 DEN Fifth Background: Broncos came into the draft with a plan to cut down on future expenses, with looming max contracts to Peter London and Andrew Rahi on the horizon - in addition to many vets needing their deals renewed at or above market prices. The move to with Cincinnati sells high on some exciting pieces, and also restocks the top of the 2024 draft. Madruga gets a chance to lead a team in targets after logging just 30 opportunities last year in a crowded room, and Wilcox gets to show out in a contract year as the lead pass rusher for the Bengals - all while not costing the Broncos in contract negotiations in 2025/2026. The other two trades cleared up some cap space for the Broncos to be players in the 2024 free agency market and gave them multiple cracks at the bottom of this draft class to see if anything hits. Draft Picks 2nd Round Pick #62 K Elih Obada Accuracy Arizona State Ovr/Pot: A-/B+ 2022 Stats 8/8 FG, Long of 44, 10/10 XP Background: With Ronald Netherton severely limiting the Bronco's red zone scoring opportunities last season, Elih Obada comes in as the expected starter at Kicker and potentially punter. He was curiously asked to split time at Arizona State with their QB attempting some field goals as well - but private workouts as well as public opinion had Obada as the top kicker in the draft. 2023 Projection: Day 1 Starter 2nd Round Pick #63 DT Will Hill Nose Tackle Rutgers Ovr/Pot: B+/C 2022 Stats 61.5 Tackles 29 TFLs 4.5 Sacks 1 FF 1FR Background: With Chad Bruce signing a $40mil+ extension to stay in Denver, he's expected to move back outside to defensive end - and with the departure of young edge Phil "Philcox" Wilcox to Cincinnati - Denver picked up Will Hill from Rutgers. He charts as a superior run defender and 1-tech next to veteran Daniel Garrison, giving the Broncos two positive run stoppers in a division that's looking more and more like they're going to attempt to pound the rock to keep the ball out of the hands of Peter London. 2023 Projection: Day 1 Starter 3rd Round Pick #93 FB Craig Crosby Receiving Buffalo Ovr/Pot: B/A 2022 Stats 142 Carries 754 Yards 5.31 YPC 1 TD, 9 Rec 93 Yards, 1 Pancake Background: Much like kicker, the Broncos are bringing Craig Crosby in at a lower premium position as an immediate starter. Crosby appeared to have the capacity to be a thousand yard rusher at Buffalo, but the Broncos were very impressed with his blocking skill as well and will look to utilize him both as a runner and as a blocker. Still has some work to do as a pass catcher, unlike his FB compatriot LaFromboise, who went later in the draft. 2023 Projection: Day 1 Starter 3rd Round Pick #94 WR Hunter Stauffer Possession California Ovr/Pot: C+/A+ 2022 Stats 53 Rec 735 Yards 13.87 YPC 3 TDs Background: Hunter Stauffer didn't stauff the stat sheet at Cal, but he continues to show flashes of electric potential as a pass catcher. Potential being the operative word. Hunter struggled to get down field as the primary receiving option on a team with a very limited passer and no deep threats - he'll have no such issue in Denver. He project as a slot receiver in the Broncos' offensive scheme, battling to take over from Barry Madruga, who left with Philcox for Cincinnati. 2023 Projection: Special Teams 4th Round Pick #105 WR Eric Graham Route Runner Arizona State Ovr/Pot: B/B- 2022 Stats 47 Rec 893 Yards 19.0 YPC 8 TDs Background: Everything that Hunter Stauffer isn't is what Eric Graham can be in the NFL. He excels at getting open, but struggles with seeing plays through all the way through getting (and keeping) the ball in his hands. When Graham executes though, there are few in the country as electric - average 19 yards per catch is impressive - and the Broncos seem likely to throw him into the mix with Hunter Stauffer and veteran Alejandro Mora for WR3 next year. 2023 Projection: Day 1 Starter 4th Round Pick #133 SS Weston McCoil Ball Hawk Memphis Ovr/Pot: C+/A 2022 Stats 59.5 Tackles 1 TFL 2 FF 1 PD 3 INT 1 Defensive TD Background: With Vicente Bugarin entering his 12th year and 3rd team in 2 seasons, Weston was brought on to give the Bronco an immediate body in camp to give Bugarin rest. He's was raw at Memphis, struggling to reroute wide receivers or do too much in the run game, but at times Weston showed serious game-changing potential, with 3 INTs, as well as returning one of them for a TD. He profiles as a special team gunner right now. Projection: Special Teams 5th Round Pick #159 C Jamon Ridley Pass Blocking NC State Ovr/Pot: C+/A 2022 Stats 0 Pancakes 2 Sacks Allowed Background: The antithesis of a road grader, Jamon didn't do much of anything in the run game, but he kept Luke Johnson's jersey clean. The Broncos have Casebeer for two more years, and they'll likely expect Ridley to be filled out physically and ready to compete for the starting spot in 2026. He'll likely sit behind AP All-Name Center Tim Gurganus as the Broncos' backup swing lineman until then. 2023 Projection: Backup/Swing Lineman 6th Round Pick #164 DT Keith Rodriguez Balanced Utah State Ovr/Pot: B/C+ 2022 Stats 51 Tackles 25 TFLs 9 Sacks Background: Keith is a big man and disrupts offensive lines. Something the Broncos find themselves in need of with Chad Bruce moving back outside. He has a wide reach and a frame big enough to hold up in teh NFL. The question for Rodriguez will be whether he can hold up for an entire season of play. However, when he does get on the field without losing his breath, he showed he deserved to be in the conversation with some of the top defensive tackles in the draft with 9 sacks last season. He'll likely battle Richard Dehne for a spot as a rotational rusher and interior lineman as he develops his conditioning. 2023 Projection: Backup DL Projection 6th Round Pick #167 RB Jerry Lawson Balanced Oregon Ovr/Pot: B-/C 2022 Stats 416 Carries 1915 Yards 4.6 YPC 15 TDs, 42 Rec 395 Yards 9.4 YPC 3 TDs Background: Jerry Lawson tore up the PAC12 this year, with over 1900 yards and some decent receiving work thrown in for good measure. In a league with a whole lot of impressive rushers, Lawson held his own when in came to play on the field. There are some questions about his physical profile and whether he's topped out athletically, but there are few in the country that have footwork as polished as Jerry. He'll compete with Adel Fraire for the backup RB spot behind William "Mc" Kinley. Projection: Backup RB 6th Round Pick #180 OG Gregory Hannemann Pass Blocking Southern Miss Ovr/Pot: C+/A- 2022 Stats 0 Pancakes 0 Sacks Allowed Background: Greg played at USM - did you know that? The stat sheet didn't. Similar to Ridley, the Broncos are clearly going for a type this draft - pulling in another technically sound pass blocking lineman. A wise choice with Peter London looking like a 1$00mil+ man in the coming weeks. They want their future to be safe in the pocket. Greg didn't show anything in the run game, which is saying something considering USM almost exclusively ran the ball last season. He comes to camp with a clear need to develop the one thing he did the most last season. Projjection: Camp Body / Practice Squad 7th Round Pick #196 OLB Michael Kennedy Speed Iowa State Ovr/Pot: C+/B 2022 Stats 71.5 Tackles 7 TFLs 1 INT Background: The third LB spot has been wide open since the beginning of last season, with more than 3 players taking starts over the course of 2022. Kyu Snyder coming in from Seattle in a late Day 2 trade, along with Mark Ulrich and John Arnold, will compete for this spot. Kennedy is one more piece of spaghetti to throw at the wall to see what sticks. Projection: Special Teams 7th Round Pick #199 QB Daurice Maile Balanced New Mexico Ovr/Pot: C+/B 2022 Stats 329/536 3886 Yards 26 TDs 13 INTs, 13 Carries 51 Yards 3.92 YPC Background: Daurice Maile'd passes all over the field for the Lobos, with over 500 attempts and a respectable TD:INT to show for it. He's got some wheels, but wasn't asked to utilize them too often for a program that needed to do everything it could to keep him healthy and running their offense last year. With Dekoda Link departing early last season and backup QB "whatshisface" retiring or whatever, the QB2 spot is wide open for the taking. Maile looks to compete with the final pick of the draft for that honor. Projection: Clipboard Holder 7th Round Pick #212 QB Phil Gray Pocket Louisiana Tech Ovr/Pot: C+/B- 2022 Stats 401/638 4433 Yards 30 TDs 8 INTs Background: Gray tore up the C-USA, leading a Bulldogs to the top of the conference in passing metrics without a single other draft-caliber position player on the offense. Throwing 638 passes with only 8 interceptions is one of the best int/attempt rates in the league and Gray looks capable of playing smart football. But it's not all sunshine and rainbows when you're picking in the 200's and choices aren't black and white. Gray's arm is lackluster and barely profiles as NFL caliber, but we'll see if he can stick notwithstanding those concerns. Projection: Practice Squad MVP Conclusion All in all, with 13 bites at the apple in the draft, the Broncos look to have at least 3 confirmed day 1 starters, restocked the top of the 2024 draft, and all while not having a first rounder this year. What remains to be seen is whether or not those day 1 starters are good starters, but a team in the position the Broncos find themselves in won't have to worry too much about needing top-flight production immediately from their rookies.
  2. Question for coach: Do you foresee transfers as a consequence of the eventual decision on who to start?

  5. Two invites per team, how you decide to arrange that is your team's perogative.
  6. Hi coaches! The NFL Combine Invitation List has been released! See who's received an automatic invite from the league to the combine here, and for those who are running an NFL team in the sim, you can use this list to reference who you'd like to invite to the combine yourself. Each NFL team gets 2 additional players they can add to the combine. Submit your request here: https://forms.gle/Xq39crZVeBakWnf39 For corrections, simply submit again. Each submission will be kept up to date in the position column and positional tab, and invited players will be kept as up to date as possible to avoid different teams requesting the same player attend twice. 2023 Combine Invite List: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1jWsTy9GTRgVsnCKravcSMRqEbddnzVbzv2lg6vQhbrQ/edit?usp=sharing Also - just for awareness, player invitations were done solely on a production basis, given their on-field performance for the season. Players with fewer snaps but higher overall/potential may have been left out for that reason. Thanks! @alexfall862

  8. A little early, but it's never too early for koolaid (invented in Grand Island, Nebraska)! Check out 2022's season write-up here to compare notes: https://www.simfba.com/index.php?threads/nebraska-season-preview.3445/ Year in Review Offense Last write-up in the 2022 off-season, we talked about the trio of underwhelming QBs. This year didn't have the same issue, primarily because the Huskers only returned 1 of them. Francis Guerrero struggled throughout the season, but offered just enough to hold onto the starting job. One of the bright spots on the offense emerged with QB Poona Edwards starting the final 3 games and being the center of a moderately successful offense in each. They also brought in a much ballyhooed recruiting class at the WR position, with 5* Ro'Derrick Billings, 5* Patrick Hernandez, and 4* Justin St Fleur - and the two 5* had what it took in spring camp to start the season along with the only returning player with experience in Orion Guy. While showing far more flashes of brilliance than 2022, the corps stills struggled for most of the season. The 2023 season looks to be more stable with a more productive QB locked in as the presumptive starter, and the offense will likely be more productive due to that alone. On the ground, Du'Vonta Almonte and Richaun Alsadek combined for 1200 yards, and QB Francis Guerrero supplemented that production with 400 rushing yards on his own. All in all the group managed to swing 4 yards a carry, a much showing than the prior season. Guerrero showed a nose for the endzone with 6 rushing TD, propping up his anemic redzone passing numbers. The line acquitted itself well, with Chris Diaz leading the team with 12 pancakes, and aside from a brutal sack-fest against Colorado kept the QBs in a pretty good condition. However, the offense was not at all a sum of its parts, and had the 4th worst offense in the country by ppg. That said - the team still outproduced the 2022 squad by 7 points per game. Defense The Huskers improved greatly in the ground game, vaulting up to 41st in the country is rushing yards allowed - and save for a jaw-dropping game against Purdue allowing 400+ yards, acquitted themselves very well. Where the Huskers really turned things around was against the pass. Nebraska managed to lead the entire country in pass defense, allowing just 168 yards per game, and much of that success can be tied to junior Elijah Guerrieri, who added in 8 picks - good for top 6 in the country - and Steven Hall and Connor Cozart, who led the team with 7 sacks each, and Hall adding on an impressive 17 TFLs. All in all, the 'skers posted a top 5 defense by yards allowed and points allowed - and look to return a vast majority of their playmakers. A much, much better showing than their inaugural season. Special Teams Sylvester Conley still struggled this year, only clearing 10/21 field goals. After early season struggles, the team elected to only attempt kicks from 35 yards out and closer, effectively limiting their offense to 'touchdown or bust' for most of the season. Punter Donnie Gentry picked up where Jaydon Looney left off, and booted 66 punts and landed half of them inside the 20. Both players are leaving the program, meaning the competition will be wide open to take over for the battery. Overall At 5-7, Nebraska improved in the standings, but perhaps more impressively, they closed the gap in their margin of error by 11 points, and finished their first season with a positive point differential. Quixotic QB play mired the team throughout the season until freshman Poona Edwards was given the reigns after the team was officially out of bowl contention. Perhaps a point of regret for the team, Poona proved he had what it took to lead at least a modest passing attack - which would have likely ended up bouying the team to their first bowl berth. Dropping the matchup against Colorado, and even more inexplicably Kent State, could have turned the other way with just a bit better luck moving the ball. The Wisconsin, Illinois, and Rutgers games were close as well. Overall an encouraging if frustrating season for the Huskers. The question for the Huskers is going to be whether they look into senior Gleyber Hinojosa or youngsters Juan Arana or Steven White will see playing time. RB: The second offseason with the leading rusher departing, we'll likely see a similar pattern continue - with the prior season's backup in Richaun Alsadek leading the charge. Senior Oday Rodriguez and junior Dan Thompson are will look to see snaps in relief, however, with the runningback room looking a little long in the tooth, the Huskers may elect to try and redshirt Richaun to extend his shelf-life to make sure they have a quality starter eligible for 2025. Right now there's nothing other than walkons and upperclassmen in the room. If so, Oday v. Dan is a position to watch. FB Sam Ward may see snaps at RB as well. If he acquits himself well on the ground, he could change positions to RB full-time. WR2: Last season had 1 catch for 6 yards in returning production, but this year sees most of the class return, and some new faces with strong showings in the spring. Frosh Ro'Derrick Billings will lead the group next year, but with Patrick Hernandez and Justin St. Fleur both taking a redshirt year, the battle for WR2 is going to be anyone's game. Seniors Brett Sendejo and Jalen Escobar have the best hands on the team, but 3rd year player John Bonifacio shined in spring practice and may see reps ahead of the rest of the room. C: Alex Callahan is out, so the Huskers are going to be looking for a new captain of the offensive line. Dexter Hunter and Yu Gobert are neck and neck through spring practice, but Quinten Mathieu has all the tools to fit with both QB Poona Edwards and has 3 years of eligibility as well. Quinten has every opportunity to grow into the role if he can DE: NFL prospect Chris Hall moves on from the team, leaving the LE spot wide open. Look for senior Luis Ridley and pass rushing specialist Tim Zimmerman to fight for the spot opposite Connor Cozart. DT2: As another quality starter leaves in Daric Martin-Oguike, the Huskers are going to once again replace their anchor on defense. Tre Cole will hold on to his spot as the 3-tech, but they'll look to add a run stopper opposite the senior. Braxton Lewis and Malcolm Thompson are the best options the Huskers have at that position, but neither offer what the team is looking for at the 1-tech, and so expect plenty of young players to get their chance at the spot. MLB: With the Huskers looking a little light in the middle of the defense, the question of who's going to quarterback this team is up in the air. Keenan Cruz has all the physical gifts and experience, but junior Cory Johnson and sophomore Jalen Schwartz have both shown better ability to play all 4 quarters consistently. This is the position battle to watch for the spring, in addition to DT2, this is the battle to watch this season. Depending on what they team feels they have at these positions, K: Shane Crawford vs. Troy Bailey is going to be a battle between styles. Shane has D1 accuracy, but Troy has the leg to make the kicks necessary to extend the Husker's scoring range. The question in this battle isn't likely to be "Who's better?", but "Who's better for the team right now?" with both offering different advantages - though Troy has a much higher ceiling if he can get consistency on his kicks. This means that now sophomores Sam Ward and Ro'Derrick Billings seem primed to show out this season, along with Richaun Alsadek and Kyle Basham. Defense: Nebraska ran a 4-3 all season, and it benefited them greatly. It remains to be seen whether that will carry over into next season, as the team fields arguably it's weakest positions at both the DT and ILB spots. Look for some more experimentation this spring for the team as they look to repeat their success from this season. Schedule Starting with 3 games on the road, including kicking off the season against a strong Kansas squad is a tough draw for the 'skers, but the total record of their opponents' coming into the season equates to essentially the same season Nebraska had last year (5.5-6.5 average opponent record at .460 win pct). Unfortunately, much of this comes from Minnesota's tough showing last season, and the Huskers find themselves with only 5 games against teams that had worse seasons than they did - including a Purdue team that beat the brakes off Nebraska last season. There's a path to a bowl game in here somewhere, but the team is going to have to be able to count on consistent improvement from several positions to make that happen. They look to have found their QB, and with a bevy of strong weapons in the wings, we have to expect a better season from the offense. If the defense can hold together and replicate just 80% of what they did last season, this could be the season for Nebraska to go bowling.
  9. Denver Broncos Week 1: @Carolina @Sarge Week 2: @Pittsburgh @smackemz Week 3: Atlanta @subsequent
  10. First of all, if any team is dirty, it's the Las Vegas Raiders. Not only are they in the city of sin, but I've heard rumors that their owner, Mark Davis, is so cash poor that they can't afford a janitorial staff. Obviously being Shmark Shavis, a reporter for the local paper, and not Mark Davis, this would be news to you. I would hate to be Mark Davis. As far as on-the-field exploits, I will say that I've been the Raiders biggest cheerleader all season (because they can't afford to hire their own) and I look forward to our divisional games next season!
  11. I'm going to get to work starting asap on figuring that out. I don't have the answer right now, but I do have a planning meeting retreat scheduled for later in the year in the upper midwest at an undisclosed location where we'll convene with other bright minds in the business to exchange ideas. With all the craziness during the season, we didn't get a chance to do that this season. You could almost say that our organization really misses our Dakota Connection.
  12. Well, other than the general inability to cover kick and punt returns, we felt his insistence on "trust me bro, punting in the KOTEX RedZone is exactly what they'd least expect. We'll have 'em by the balls!" was generally unwise advice and we just wanted to exorcise that demon before next season.
  13. Yes I have a question. First of all, how dare you? Secondly. With so many veteran players on the roster for next season, do you feel as though you're going to have any major personnel changes going into 2023?
  14. Denver, CO - While the team was still in Pasadena, the Broncos front office called a short press gaggle to make an announcement. Owner @alexfall862 stated that he was proud of the job the team and coach @alexfall862 had done this season and he will be retained for next season, however special teams coach @alexfall862 has been terminated effective immediately and is no longer part of the organization. Additionally, the team announced they're delaying the construction of the capital project first reported by @kwheele though they noted that the timing is solely coincidental and there's nothing to be read into in regards to the status of any other members of the organization. Sources have confirmed that the team boarded the plane with 1 fewer coaches than they arrived with earlier this week. Special teams coach @alexfall862 was seen standing by himself on the tarmac texting, presumably for an Uber, as the plane took off just minutes ago.
  15. We can't focus on what we have done or what we think we could have accomplished, not in this league. The fact of the matter is that we'll be back in the office tomorrow working on the draft and setting up the team for success next season. That said, when we're all old and retired I think we'll look back on what we've done and be proud of the work that went into this season regardless of the result.
  16. I'm going to tell him he did a fine job, but we as a team need to get better if we're going to improve on what we did this season. Which we should, by the way. This offense was constructed mid-season and having more time to implement a personnel-specific scheme is only going to help Peter next season as he builds rapport with the rest of the guys.
  17. I think we had trouble stopping the run, like basically every team so far that Washington has faced this season, but I was really heartened by the goal-line stops. Looking back, I think we should have found a better way to stop the short passes. Those were really the back-breakers.
  18. Los Angeles - After a game where Washington held control nearly from kickoff through to the final whistle, Coach alexfall862 made himself available to the press for comments. "First of all, I want to thank GM @alexfall862 for believing in me and my vision for this football team, and despite the outcome today, I look forward to returning next season with these great kids and running it back. Kuddos to @tsweezy @DarthJarJar @Ewade and the entire Washington Commanders organization for the amazing job they did today. They're going to have a great night tonight and I'm happy for them. We just didn't have it tonight and I thought we had trouble capitalizing on the opportunities we did get. This is going to be a long offseason, but again, while I'm not content with where we're at, I know we'll look back at this season and have a lot to appreciate. With that, I will open the floor to any questions."
  19. Bringing the crew back again for another run at an AFC Crown! Pay no attention to the 2024-2026 cap numbers looming overhead like the Sword of Damocles.
  20. Ad Application: Game: NCAA National Championship or Super Bowl (depending on when turnover happens) Company: Nacrotics Anonymous Sponsoring the first fumble of each game Script: "This turnover has been brought to you by your anonymous friends at NA. Whether it's fleeing the police across the country in a stolen Subaru or losing a championship game to the third best team in Oklahoma, turn to us after your rock bottom." Tagline: "Don't fumble your life away. Don't be Matt Howard."
  21. NCAA COTY: @tsweezy Why? CROOTS But also wins.
  22. Bengals had the weirdest season and kept inexplicably winning and leaned on the right strengths in the sim engine. I think that's a much better accomplishment than the buzzsaw in Denver, tbh.
